  1. good info bro ...waiting for the olympics to start
  2. Good analysis based on ranking - I would like to consider any person ranked over the last 2 years rather than just current ranking ......and if we go by that 2 names can be added Chain was ranked in the top 16 just last year in dec 2015 in 50 m rifle 3 position so can be added to the list and manoj was ranked sixth last year so also can be added ( just a quick point you have added mixed doubles twice and taken jitu once ,,the overall number is the same ) so I think 30 seems to encapsulate the list of all real possibilities
  3. http://www.linkupvideos.net/video/47049/iaaf-world-under-20-championships-2016-live-stream-poland/ gives you excellent live video
  4. India at the IAAF u20 world championships - day 1 summary - day 2 look forward DAY1 Summary - Great Day for India 1500 meters( M ) - Ajay Saroj came in with a PB 3:44.4 and was in heat 1 and was not expected to make the finals based on PB ..................... came in a close 4th in heat 1 with a time close to his PB 3.44.96 ..... top 3 in each heat get through as well as the fastest two qualifiers ....went into the Finals ( as the top 12 ) as one of the two fastest qualifers ...but his time was incredibly also the 4th fastest in the qualfiers as the other two heats were slower .................Hoping that he can finish in the top 6 in the finals and also beat his personal best ( His PB is the 9th best amongst the 12 finalists ) - Final is on 21st Long Jump( M) - Yugant shekhar started in group B with PB of 7.8 was expected to make the finals ....Jumped a good jump of 7.68 in his second jump ( with a negative wind of -1.0 ) reached the finals with the 5th best jump ......... A medal hope in long jump is possible but difficult as many of them have huge PBs...especially the two cubans......... but hope he can beat his PB and if he comes close to 8 meters a medal is possible, ( His PB is 8th best amongst the Finalists ) ..the final is on 20th 800 meters ( W) - we had 2 participants lili das and abintha mary ......both are fancied junior runners ....abintha came into Heat 3 with the slowest PB of all the runners 2.07.33 in that heat and was not expected to progress , lili came in heat 5 into with a PB - 2.06.64 which was 5th best - and was not expoected to progress ....... Lili did a slow 2.13.45 and finished last in her heat - but I think she has another chance int he 1500 where her chances are better .................... Abintha ( coached by the great PT usha ) did well to clock a 2.06.91 finished 5th in her heat and qualified for the semis ............she is again based on her timing 7th best amongst the heat timings for all comers so a great achievement by her .............. but progressing to the final looks almost impossible for her unless she again beats her personal best once again by a large margin ( she is slowest amongst the 8 semi finalists in her heat in terms of PB ) ......semis is on 20th India at the 2nd day - Look ahead - Lots of action 110 m Hurdles ( round 1) - Maymon poulaose comes in with the heat 2 with the 6th slowest PB amongst his heat based on the PB he should not make it to the next round as he is the 5th slowest in his heat but based on the performance of the others - May he can make the semis.....his event - Indian time 15.15 hrs Triple jump ( prelims ) - sonu kumar PB 15.99- gain based on PB he is approx 20th and not expected to make it to the finals...again hoping he can beat his PB and make the finals - ecvent around 15;30 Hammer throw (prelims) - Ashish Jakkar PB 69 - comes in with one of the lowest PBs amongst all the people in the event - getting to the finals would be a miracle ...bu tthis is an event where we have had no major traction in the past so to have an athelete in the worlds is a great event for us ...... I hope he can beat 70 - his event is india time 16.15 800 m women ( semis ) - abintha in action see above for chances Long jump ( Finals ) - Yugant in action see above for chances both the semis/finals are in the night around 22:00 hrs
  5. http://www.potatogoodness.com/all-about-potatoes/potato-fun-facts-history/ Peru Please !!!!!.........................we peruvians are proud of our potato ...................................................The first permanent potato patches in North America were established in 1719, most likely near Londonderry (Derry), NH, by Scotch-Irish immigrants. From there, the crop spread across the country. By the way before people from US says they invented the chips ( lays or whatever they call them ....interesting name ) ............................................. The earliest known recipe for potato chips is in William Kitchiner's 1822 cookbook The Cook's Oracle, a bestseller in England and the United States; its recipe for "Potatoes fried in Slices or Shavings" reads "peel large potatoes, slice them about a quarter of an inch thick, or cut them in shavings round and round, as you would peel a lemon; dry them well in a clean cloth, and fry them in lard or dripping". .................we colonial brishers call them crisps ................
  6. India at the under 20 world atheletics championship best chances are with Long Jump Yugant - PB 11th best Javelin - neeraj chopra - PB best in the world 400mh - Tamilarasan - 16th best 4*400m relay - men - 7th best womens 1500 - lili -15th best womens 4*400m - 5th best Obviously best chances seem to be in Javelin and womens 4*400
  7. well we got 2 universality positions in swimming almost equivalent to a tripartite / wildcard but I am happy all the rest did it on their own merit
  8. good analysis kapil The first question is has the number of medal opportunities gone up - yes it has ....the second and more important question is has the number of possible medal opportunities( oppurtunties in the realm of realistic possibility ) in Rio more than London List for London would have been like this ....I am including anyone ranked in the top 10 individual in r sports / top 8 team over the previous 2 years before olympics as realistic medal prospect ) - Luckily I have been maintaining the ranking scores of Indian athletes for the 2006 every year ...so I will try to create this table over the next hour or so
  9. I do not know whether to be happy or sad .................. Ratchanok is such a pleasure to watch ....................... but saina chances improve
  10. A total of 27 members, including nine women, will represent India at the prestigious 2016 IAAF World U-20 Athletics Championships to be held in Bydgoszcz, Poland from July 19 to 24, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) announced today. Besides Neeraj It also has 2015 Asian Youth 800m champion Beant Singh, 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games 400m silver medallist Jisna Mathew and 800m bronze medallist Abitha Mary Manuel. This is the largest youth team ever which shows recent Indias growth in atheletics is broad based
  11. lakshya sen wins a bronze at the asian u19 badminton
  12. welcome to totallympics .......
  13. Interesting stats More interesting than quota from a medal perspective is medal opportunities ....... for example the hockey squad may have 16 quotas but will have only 1 medal opportunity but gagan is only 1 quota but he has 3 medal opportunities and medal opportunity does not also correspond to events as we may have both ayonika and apurvi in 10m air rifle which is one event but two medal oppurtunities As per my count so in Rio while we have 120 -121 quotas we have 91-92 medal opportunities and participation in 66 events in london we had 83 quotas and 69 medal opportunities in 55 events
  14. great show by france +63 quotas is impressive what happened this time around
  15. Road to rio on the other hand is showing manish rawat being selected for the 20km and hence not selected for the 50km walk which would bring us back to 120 ? they are showing manish , gurmeet and krishnan for the 20km and only sandeep for the 50 km .............????. i think the 4*400 squads are finalised !!!............it depends now the race walker squad ............ On a personal front i prefer manish , gurmeet and krishnan for the 20km squad as given in race for rio as all three have been classy recently ( i am not sure why devender is being ignored his time of 1:20:21 is the best amongst the three , krishnan is just 1:21:41 - though his performance was the best in the last walk Rome 2016 ) and the 20km squad can do something special while the 50km has no chance at all
  16. I think we are closing our quota at 121 ......I am going by the final list given in wikipedia ( tradionally inaccurate bu this list seems logical and as per the rules ) does not include tintu in the 4*400 squad ( they anyway can use her as required ) and the 50km squad would have manish and sandeep while the 20 km squad would have irfan , baljinder and gurmeet which seems to be logical ( except that devender in recent times has done well while irfan has really not been in form ) .............. can somebody confirm this 121 and the 20 km and 50 km race walker team ?- other than wikipedia
  17. wow 274 million pounds ................thats a huge budget for the olympics ............I can understand they are not funding golf or tennis ....what about Rugby thta is a team sport and possibly needs a lot of investments.....................Interesting but shooting seems to be the lowest cost per medal ratio with just about 1.7 million pounds per medal .......................and judo incredibly expensive at 14 million per medasl
  18. well I remember seeing the entire commonwealth games on bbc directly using hola unblocker .............................. also I saw the live feed of DD sports of the federation meet live on a site so think that there may be possible sites .....................
  19. My Initial information was correct - AFI in an attempt to increase participation did send a list which did not include nirmala sheoran , anas and tintu but IAAF had put a rider only in dec that your 4*400 relay squad must include your 400 distance runners necessarily........ so now they have dropped the idea and added anas and nirmala ............................... The full story is given below http://www.thehindu.com/sport/other-sports/rio-olympics-2016-indian-olympics-athletics-team-to-be-reduced-to-36/article8850343.ece ... I am not clear about tintu status because they do not need to include tintu ( the rule applies only to events corresponding to the relay ) ...if Tintu is not included should we not have 1 extra quota ....... That of course depends on the nominations in the 20 km walk and 50 km walk I think ........................... are we at 121 or 120 ? Incidentally to dolby who when I put the posting immediately said that nirmala and anas ahve to be included but tintu can be excluded ...................... I hereby vote to send @Dolby to train all the federations on the Rio rules , they seem to be know so little
  20. @Dolby @Sanjib This is the site which I think is run by rohan and is normally quite reliable https://www.facebook.com/indrio16/ @rohan sharma could you share where the source of the posting was
  21. I just saw the release of the names for athletics released by the AFI It shows 6 names not including nirmala and Anas or tintu for each of the relays ......................so our number may go up by 2 , but manish rawat has been selected for the 20 km walk but not the 50 km walk so we may have a reduction of 1 person in the walks and an increase of 3 in the relays ...so we may end up with 122 and not 120 ..........
  22. Unfortunately in Hyderabad .....would have loved to be there
  23. Looking at the awesome 120 achieved by India ...I have been so ithrilled......but yeh dil mange more ..... I then did a best case analysis in my mind looking at who missed closely and if all the close ones had come thru what could have been the number ( Very best case scenario ) Atheletics ................... we could have had 17 more atheletes best case ( they missed by a very small amount ) ....possibly given some more support and possibly more training time we could have had ...2 more javelin throwers in men( neeraj and rajinder) , 1 more in women javelin( annu ), 110mh (sidhanth) , Womens discus(krishna) , 400mh for men( jithin ) , 4*100 women ( 3 more ) , 5000m mens( lakshman ) , shotput men (Tejinder and Om) , 50km walk ( Basanth ) , womens long (Neena dn prajusha) , womens triple (Mayookha) , mens 100 ( malick) Shooting - These shooters missed by whisker - 8 more at the asian qualifer as well as at some of world cups - Om Prakash , Vijay kumar , ankur and asab, manavjit ( n which case sanjeev would have gone ) , elizabeth koshy , shagun and akhil sheoran, angad bajwa Boxing - 4 more - ..........Laishram , neeraj and sumit sangwan - all lost very narrowly and mary kom lost narrowly the asian qualifier Archery - twice the mens team lost by shoot off - we could have had 2 more Badminton - Kashyap was unlucky due to injury or we would have most likely one more mens player - 1 more weight lifting - with the current womens team doing the rounds twice ( we had a very weak 2014 ) had we done a little better we could have a team of 3 womens weightlifters - 2 more Gymnastics - Patra would have scored just a f point more he would have made the rio test event and possibly we could have a second gymnast at rio ( he was first reserve ) - 1more Wrestling - staywart kadian in the 86 free in asian qualifer was one bout away , so was anita sheoran in 63 women and ravinder khatri in the 66 greco - 3 more .......... so that would have been 38 more atheletes for rio .......I am sure I am missing 1-2 more ? ........ and wow what a strong side we would have had ....I feel if we have had stronger support ( we had good support towards the end ) for a longer time .............. Our numbers could have easily touched 160 .............. Unbelievable but true ..................by the way that would bring us close to being a top 15 nation in terms of quota seats .......just a little more support / better NOCs / aligned private support and we would have been there
  24. awesome achievement and some of them were broken twice - Like 110 mh, 200men, 3000sc women which was a further indication of the strech put in by indian athletes.... I expect a few more to be broken at rio !!!!! ...to make 2016 a year to remember
  25. Performances which stood out this season for me ( in comparison to 2012 olympics ) .................. If our atheletes did their PB which they have achieved in the last one year where would they be placed in the 2012 olympics ranking Ankit had done 8.19 in the long ................... He would have got a SILVER medal Renjith had done 17.30 in the triple .............He would have stood 5th Indrajeet had done 20.7 in the shot ............ He would have stood 8th Vikas had done 65.75 in the discus .............He would have stood 7th 4*400men had done 3.00.91 ...................... They would have stood 6th 4*400women had done 3.27.88...................They would have stood 8th sudha had done 9.26.00 in the 3000m......she would have finished 10th, and lalitha 9.27.00 would be 11th devender with 1:20;21 in the 20 km walk would have been 10th and gurwinder with 1:20:29 would have also been 10th so we would have had 10 people in the top 10 or so ..................... Duttee 11.22 would have got into the semis in the 100m women and also dharambir with 20.45 would have been enough to reach the semis in the 200m and also 23.07 to have got srabani in the 200m semis for women, tintu with 1:59.19 would be int he semis as well ........................also 4 people in the semis so these are world class scores if the Indian athletes further improve on them and peak at the right time ......any thing can happen ...,,,
