  1. Tentoglou starts with 8.32 in Athens
  2. Also Gauff's draw is ridiculously easy now, as always...
  3. Another early slam loss for Maria It's crazy because she always used to be so reliable to beat lower ranked players at big events, ever since she became a top 10 player 2.5 years ago at age 26, she suffers so many of these losses. At least Stefanos won and is into the third round!
  4. Maybe he is trying to get his doubles ranking up so he can play mixed with his girlfriend, who is certainly not a bad doubles player herself (Siniakova)

  6. 2024 Men's European Water Polo Championship: 5-8 Playoff: 12 - 10 5-6 Playoff: 15 - 10
  7. 2024 Australian Open: Men's Singles: Round 1: (7) Stefanos Tsitsipas GRE d. (LL) Zizou Bergs BEL 5-7 6-1 6-1 6-3 Round 2: (7) Stefanos Tsitsipas GRE vs. Jordan Thompson AUS Women's Singles: Round 1: (8) Maria Sakkari GRE d. 8. Glad I can rely on you to let me know when this is, because one of the biggest Greek sport sites published an article today saying that we will have three athletes competing in Dortmund, but nowhere in the article did they state when the meet would take place
  9. triple jumper Maria Purtsa will now represent She is 36th in the current World Rankings, so a decent pickup for us It was announced on our athletics federation website and also on Instagram and she reposted it. She was born and raised in Germany to a Greek father and a Bulgarian mother. Her father is from Pella, Greece and she visits frequently.
  10. Ukrainians having a great tournament so far. Croatians, Czechs, Russians not.
  11. Really impressive from Yastremska, especially since she struggled in all three of her qualifying matches, including against our own Valentini Grammatikopoulou (6-4 3-6 6-4)
  12. Georgiadou 6th, Gkountoura 33rd. Georgiadou probably needed to take advantage of Gkountoura's result and do a little better than 6th to really close the gap between her and Gkountoura for the Greek quota spot. It must be so awkward for them to be competing against each other for this quota, especially because they are good friends...
  13. Thank you, and congratulations to the Dutch team for the gold! You were our non-qualification sisters for a while. First in London 2012 when you were defending Olympic champions and we were world champions, then in 2016 we both also missed. I am glad to see you succeed since then (although you always beat us now), and also a lot of Dutch girls play and have played for Greek clubs in their careers
  14. I had a nightmare last night, that FINA decided to change the rules for Olympic qualification and Italy got to play against Germany and if they won, they would take our quota
  15. The Americans never cared about Kenin. She won a slam as a young girl and is completely unknown in the US. The media only cared about Gauff. Really? Samsonova always loses early in slams and lost to Bogdan and Siegemund in the lead-up events without winning a match.
  16. 16 years later. After a lot of pain and suffering especially in the last 12 years. This means so much to the girls of this team and also the girls of previous teams who never got the chance to go to the Olympics. We missed London, Rio, and Tokyo but we will be in Paris!
  17. 2024 Women's European Water Polo Championship: Group A: 10 - 15 Quarterfinals: 15 - 7 Semifinals: 5 - 13 Third place game: 7 - 6 2024 Men's European Water Polo Championship: Group B: 18 - 9 Playoffs: 15 - 10 Quarterfinals: 8 - 13
  18. 2024 Australian Open: Women's Singles Qualifying: Round 1: Valentini Grammatikopoulou GRE d. Elvina Kalieva USA 7-5 6-3 Round 1: Raluca Georgiana Serban CYP d. Despina Papamichail GRE 7-5 6-2 Round 2: (1) Dayana Yastremska UKR d. Valentini Grammatikopoulou GRE 6-4 3-6 6-4 Men's Singles: Round 1: (7) Stefanos Tsitsipas GRE vs. Matteo Berrettini ITA Women's Singles: Round 1: (8) Maria Sakkari GRE vs. Nao Hibino JPN
  19. Asimaki was retired when I posted this and now 3 years later she is back and going to the Olympics
  20. The draw is already out. You are in the group with Italy and Canada who will probably beat you comfortably, then in the knockout have to face the loser of Australia/Hungary and if you somehow win that, that is only to make the quarterfinals where you will be by far the weakest link. Congratulations on your Doha qualification though!
  21. We did it! Wooowww!!! As always they didn't make it easy but this time they held on for the win! I don't even care that we won bronze, our girls are going to the Olympics for the first time since 2008! So many heartbreaking losses in quota games since then. 2012 against Spain when we were World Champions in 2011 and that's how FINA changed their qualification system. Then 2016 against Russia with a 9-7 lead with 2 minutes left and 10-9 lead with 4 seconds left and lost on penalties. Then 2021 when we led the Dutch at halftime and didn't score a single goal the rest of the game. It will be nice to be relaxed during the World Championships and not having to stress about either one of our teams. They did it for themselves and also for the past generations! Some of the best players in the world in the last 10-15 years like Avramidou, Kouvdou, Manolioudaki never got to go to the Olympics. And so many others. So nice to see people like Diamantopoulou who was expected to make her Olympic debut in 2012 as a 16 yo, finally getting to go as a 28 yo! And Asimaki 16 years later in her "second career." Also girls like the Plevritou sisters, Eleftheriadou, Xenaki who shed many tears in past heartbreaks, most of them as teenagers at first, finally getting to go to the Olympics! I am sorry for our Italian friends. This was so important for us though. I hope you guys qualify via Doha because you deserve it especially for beating USA last year!
