Surprisingly a historic performance by Helen Kevric in multiple ways: a) First 16 year old to finish in the top 8 in the all-around since 2008 (the year she was born) b) Best result for Germany since 1988, if you include GDR athletes c) Best result for Germany since 1964, if you don’t include GDR athletes d) Second best European athlete Too bad she didn’t score 0.2 points more to finish 6th. Obviously Germany never had a talent like her, hopefully she continues on her path without injuries.
  4. Obviously the problem isn’t his performance, but your expectations. He has never done anything to give the impression that he could medal. I wouldn’t have been shocked to see him medal, but anyone who expected him to medal is obviously delusional. The bigger question is why he didn’t focus on the 100 free instead. He has a lot of options concerning the 2028 Olympics. He could add the 100 free/100 fly/200 IM to his program or stick with the 200 back. Italy has promising talents in men’s 200 free, so if Ceccon could get to sub 1:46, their relay might be a medal contender in 2028. Right now it looks as if his best option would be to stick with the 100/200 back and also try to qualify for the two free relays. 5 medals (3 relays, 100 back, 200 back) seem possible, which would probably make him the most decorated Italian Olympian ever?

  6. I just looked at the schedule and I don’t quite understand why she dropped out. In my opinion there would have been more than enough time to recover for her individual event, especially since she can easily get out of heats at 80 % if she is anywhere near her best. Maybe she could have helped them to qualify for the final before deciding to skip it. Her teammates might feel as if she robbed them of a chance to compete in a final. The other Irish runners don’t seem to be good enough to make an individual final. If she ends up winning the 400 m gold, it will probably all be forgotten.

  9. You completely change your tune on Germany after ONE game? You should at least wait until after the game against Japan tomorrow. Nyara Sabally might miss the rest of the tournament and I am not sure if 20 year old Frieda Bühner will continue to play like an WNBA all star.

  12. Absolutely insane meet for Germany. Already 6 national records, maybe 3 more will follow (mixed medley relay, women’s 800 free and men’s 200 back). If Gose‘s improvement in the 800 free translates, she could win a medal in the 800 free and maybe even break the European record (8:14.10) by Rebecca Adlington from the 2008 Olympics. Edit: After day 5 Germany has already as many top 8 finishes as at the last 2 Olympics combined.
  13. You sound like a drama queen. Milak could definitely contend for a medal in the 100 free in 2028. Maybe Padar as well (not sure if you rate the women’s event as highly). This was the first 100 free final for a German man in 32 years and I still loved it, although I might have to wait another 32 years for another chance to witness a German medal in this event.
  14. Amazing night of swimming. One of the greatest sessions ever, Marchand with one of the greatest individual sessions ever and Pan with one of the greatest individual swims ever. Winning the most competitive event by 1 second is insane.

  20. Titmus, Ledecky and Fairweather were all almost exactly 2 seconds slower than their best time this year. McIntosh on the other hand went a best time, so she seems to be in a better shape than at trials. The same is true for Gose (and Madden) who set a German record. I think in a „normal“ pool Märtens and Titmus both would have been at least very close to the world record. I think the women‘s times would have been something like: Titmus 3:55 McIntosh 3:56 Ledecky: 3:58 Fairweather 3:59 low Gose/Madden 3:59 high/4:00 low Still surprising that Gose (and Madden) were so close to Ledecky and Fairweather.
