  1. LOL @ grandma Finot suddenly running a european record. SHE DIDN‘T RUN SUB 9:45 BEFORE TURNING 30. I would bet my life that she glows in the dark.
  2. I think there should be a quota that college teams can only have a certain number of foreign athletes. In the past England had the same problem in football (too many foreign talents instead of producing their own) and Germany had the same problem in handball and basketball. It is great for your talents to regularly compete against the best foreign talents in training, but you need at least some protection for your own athletes.
  3. Germany looking great in kayak and horrible in canoe.
  4. First gold in this discipline for Germany since 1996. Germany won all individual golds in Paris. Too bad that both the eventing and jumping team flopped. Hopefully Richard Vogel will be ready in 2028, he seems to be the biggest German talent in a long time.
  5. I think only jumping and cross-country are entertaining. Dressage and eventing as a whole are boring in my opinion. Also barely any „exotic“ nations competing for medals. In my opinion only rhythmic gymnastics and synchronized swimming are as boring as dressage. Open water swimming is also pretty boring to watch. In general I prefer sports where athletes compete against each other instead of against the clock.
  6. a) Why would they phase out normal basketball, when all the stars attend? If anything they would do this to football. b) Beach soccer and futsal are as much urban/youth as 3x3 basketball. c) It is certainly a different sport and for me way less interesting.
  7. Why not? They are probably more objective than most of the other judges, since none of their athletes compete.
  8. That is the problem with sports like gymnastics/figure skating/diving. In other sports like track cycling or bob the material decides. Even in sports like basketball the referee has a lot of power.
  9. a) Don’t quite understand why we need 4 medal events for basketball. b) Don’t quite understand why this is an Olympic event while futsal/beach soccer isn’t. c) I guess the fact that the Netherlands won a medal shows that this hasn’t much to do with normal basketball.
  10. If Milak counts as a superstar, then you might as well count Douglass and Finke (and maybe Smith). I also think that in the past superstars like Phelps took a lot of pressure off the other swimmers, which made it easier for them to perform.
  11. I think we might get a different picture in 2028. It wasn’t shocking to see non-European nations somewhat underperform (in a completely different time zone). The U.S. will for sure need to find new stars. I think Dressel and Ledecky will combine for 1 gold at the most in 2028.
  12. Imagine how dominant McIntosh would be with doping … The Chinese are doped to the gills and still can’t even come close to her … a true miracle.
  13. a) When you can „legally“ swallow half a pharmacy thanks to TUEs, you don’t have to take illegal drugs to enhance your performance. b) The way Shayna Jack was treated/welcomed back by her teammates tells you all you need to know about how widespread/normal doping is among teams like Australia. c) The Chinese swimmers were cleared. If you don’t agree with the decision, you should direct your anger at the organization that cleared them and maybe consider a boycott. d) How is the U.S. with 300 million people winning 30 medals without doping, while China with 1500 million people barely wins 10 medals with doping? How is Australia with 1.8 % of the Chinese population and without doping winning twice as many medals as China with all its doped athletes? Are all their (foreign world-class) coaches complete retards or are the Chinese just genetically inferior (swimmers)? Bonus question: It is widely known that the GDR had widespread doping. Why did they dominate on the women’s side while barely winning any medals on the men’s side? Are there any nations that currently show a similar pattern (tons of medals on the women’s side while barely winning anything on the men’s side)?
  14. No, I am your dad. I feel guilty for creating you every day.
  15. a) I didn’t say that she robbed a medal b) You clearly never followed boxing if you think that only „westerners“ bribe judges. c) So you are saying that she won although the Americans bribed the judges?
  16. Luckily you don’t decide what I (am allowed to) concern myself with. I just wanted to give you an advice, since you clearly have no one in real life who could give you some feedback concerning the impression you make on other people.
  17. The person next to her grandpa looks Chinese. Maybe Nemour has Chinese heritage.
  18. Maybe a fake one … No way poor Algerian peasants could afford a real one.
  19. Your behavior will cause some people to feel less sympathy for Algerian athletes. If you care about your country, you should stop embarrassing it. Many people will think that all Algerians are as annoying as you.
  20. I had my suspicions, but thanks for confirming it. The Chinese girl was robbed indeed.
  21. Nemour was insanely overscored. Without her backstory she never would have gotten an E score of 8.5. She seems to be the female Epke Zonderland, I am sure that this silly trend of flying around as much as possible while having an extremely bad execution won’t last. Otherwise they should just call it Cirque du Soleil. Edit: Obviously she also has a huge advantage thanks to her height. It is much easier to switch from one bar to the other when you are that tall.
  22. They also looked terrible in men’s volleyball, men’s basketball and men’s handball.
  23. Overall good results for Germany. The first 5 days were very good, the last 4 days rather abysmal. Could have been 4-6 top 8 finishes more. 17 top 8 finishes is still more than at the last two Olympics combined (15). There are still huge holes in this team, especially on the women’s side. Hopefully the team will continue on this path, although it will be more difficult to perform outside of Europe. My dream would be to have at least one competitive athlete in every event, but at the moment that doesn’t seem realistic. It would be a welcome surprise to see someone qualify in men’s 200 breast/men’s 200 fly/men‘s 200 IM/women‘s 50 free/women‘s 100 free/women‘s 100 breast/women‘s 200 breast/women‘s 200 fly/women‘s 100 back/women‘s 200 back/women‘s 200 IM/women‘s 400 IM.
  24. a) Australia is the favorite in women’s medley relay? I think the U.S. is the favorite. b) France is the favorite in men’s medley relay? I think the U.S. is the favorite there as well, but France could fight for a medal.
