Nah, this special edition didn't feel that special for me and I probably would not want a repeat format of this, because it diminishes the amount of interaction between users when we have to hide which countries we've chosen and the voting is too odd and inconsistent, which means that good songs can easily not get past groups, quarters and so on so on. The only thing that's easier is that I don't need to spend 20+ hours in the span of two weeks to decide what I like and what I don't, but I honestly rather have that than watch how all of my favourite songs drop out of the competition without having a say in that voting phase.

Oh, seems that I haven't updated that Živilė Vaiciukevičiūtė at the young age of 23 has decided to retire, which might have been caused by a super strict training regime from her coach as the main reason. She was really the next big race-walking star, because in her very short career she already participated in Rio Olympics at the age of 19, won first place in a European Race Walking cup, was an U23 European bronze medalist and placed with 5th in the most recent European Championships. I'd dare say she was a top 5-7 athlete in our team and already had a qualification time for Tokyo as well. Her less successful twin is still continuing, she was always behind Živilė from the very start, still produced some nice times, but then her results started going backwards, whilst Živilė took a minute off her PB in every race that she started and she would hold the Lithuanian race-walking record if not for Brigita Virbalytė-Dimšienė, whom finished 4th in that same European Championships a couple of seconds ahead of her.

Athletics Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games
Werloc replied to OlympicIRL's topic in Athletics
The race walking cup in Alytus, Lithuania is going to be one of the key events in this. It already attracted some tough contenders last year since everybody started respecting Lithuanian race-walkers more and being recognised with an EA Permit Meeting status, I'd expect a lot of athletes looking at Lithuania as their opportunity, especially since we've handled Covid pretty well (it's going to shit lately, masks are back in stores and public transport since a week ago or something, but we're still having concerts with a 1000 attendees, so I'd say we're struggling less than some others ) -
Competitive swimming came back to Lithuania as well with a two day competition, unfortunately in a 25m course pool Nothing too out of the ordinary happened, Rapšys and Šidlauskas look in a fairly decent form, Titenis, Teterevkova (won 5 different races though) and Margevičius still have room for improvement. One of the youngsters, Daniil Pancerevas, 2004yob broke four records in the age group of sixteen yo's, 200m Freestyle (lost less than 6 seconds to Rapšys), 50 and 100m Butterfly and 100m medley. A lot of girls born in the 2006-2007s are breaking all of our U14 swimming records as well. Last year it was Silvija Statkevičius (2006) with 200m/400m Freestyle and 200m Backstroke in short course, 200m/400m/800m Freestyle records in long course. Then there's Smiltė Plytnykaitė (2007) getting rid of all of Rūta Meilutytė's age group records in the Breaststroke (which will be extremely interesting to follow her this year and the next, since it was the time when Rūta smashed all of her times and reached a new level as a 14-16 year old. (I think she also holds some Medley records as well, another one of Rūta's specialties) Erika Pasakinskaitė (2006) with a 200m Butterfly record and coming close to 50m,100m as well And in today's competition it's Patricija Geriksonaitė (2007) with a 50m Backstroke record. So yeah, a lot of young girls with potential, we've ruined that before a lot of times (Šeleikaitė won a lot of medals in juniors after Meilutytė's phase, but now she's swimming irrelevant times and swimming a lot of butterfly and freestyle instead of breaststroke, whilst Teterevkova also with a few medals in juniors will have to prove herself in the next few years if she has at least half of what Rūta had). Still, this could perhaps be something.

I'll be thinking of you when I release my newest song

On the topic of passports, some Russian athletes are already looking for their missing Lithuanian grandmothers and grandfathers and considering switching nationalities. There are also talks that Lasickienė might switch, because she has a Lithuanian husband and is very outspoken on the issues of Russian athletics as well as mentioning the fact that she might be considering to start for another country and Lithuania would be the most logical choice.

Underperformances from all three attendees, though even with those results, Gudžius got second and Kilty got third.

And I have updates from one of the most successful Lithuanian Athletics Championships. On the very first day, there was some history made in the 100m race. Gediminas Truskauskas became the 5th fastest Lithuanian with a time of 10.37, while on the women's side, Andrė Ožechauskaitė ran a 11.71 and smashed all of the youth sprint records. (The winning time was from Deliautaitė with 11.68) A pretty respectable showing from Agnė Šerkšnienė in 400m (recovering after an injury season), she posted a 52.29 time Simas Bertašius ran 1500m very close to the Lithuanian record time and finished in 3:40.34 In the 10000m, Brasevičius was the first man in the last 17 years to run under 30 minutes, so our distance running is rising from the grave slowly Andrius Gudžius won the discus throw with a 68.16 On the second day there were some good results too Gediminas Truskauskas ran the 200m in 20.83 and broke the Lithuanian U23 record and it was only 0.09s worse than the Lithuanian record held by fastest Lithuanian in both 100m and 200m - Rytis Sakalauskas. Modesta Justė Morauskaitė ran 400m. Hurdles with a PB of 57.67, 7th fastest Lithuanian time in that distance. Dovilė Kilty defeated the Lithuanian record holder Diana Zagainova in the triple jump and posted a mark of 14.18, which broke the Lithuanian Championship record. Another fun thing is that Vaida Padimanskaitė is getting a PB after PB in the triple jump and if ECH U23 is going to be hosted next year, she might become the third Lithuanian after Kilty and Zagainova to win the gold in these championships. She's already jumping 13.58 and with the way she is progressing it's not unlikely to see her jumping 14 next season. Lastly, both Lithuanian record holders in the javelin throw threw a season best result of 81.38 for Matusevičius and 60.27 for Jasiūnaitė. There were only four disciplines that did not post a season best result and those were: Women's High Jump (Palšytė skipped the event), Men's Discus Throw, since Gudžius has a better result from other competitions this year, women's 1500m and lastly women's discus throw as well with it being the only competition this year for Zarankaitė that she didn't throw a personal best result. With the championships coming to a close, there is one final stop where all of the best athletes will gather and it is the Baltic Championships in Latvia next weekend. Just like with the other category championships, all three countries send 2 individuals to start in every single discipline and points are combined at the end.

Tomorrow and Saturday is the day for the Lithuanian Championships and pretty much every Lithuanian star is going to attend. Among the participants we have Lithuanian record holders: Simas Bertašius (1500m), Edis Matusevičius (Javelin Throw), Agnė Šerkšnienė (200m, 400m), Airinė Palšytė (High Jump), Diana Zagainova (Triple Jump), Liveta Jasiūnaitė (Javelin Throw) This is the first competition for Palšytė this season, Andrius Gudžius will be throwing the discus as well and he has good results from Palanga. Interesting battles are going to happen in the women's 400m as well as the triple jump between Zagainova and Kilty. Sadly and not sadly at the same time, I'll be away on work for both of the days, but if anything noteworthy happens, I'm gonna post here on Sunday.

If anyone is interested, day 2 is underway!

Woah, Marius Rudzevičius said that he would throw the 700g javelin until he breaks the U18 record. With a 74.86, I think he might have just done it.

Probably not, I doubt that the Latvian or Estonian federations decide to run their own live results on their athletics page if there's already a deal with Spotify. Why isn't it available in Italy?

Two seperate rankings

If anyone is interested in Baltic athletics, today the U18 and U20 Baltic championships start. The rules are pretty simple, two Lithuanians, two Estonians and two Latvians start in every single discipline for both U18 and U20 categories and score points for their team that will be tallied up in the end to see which country wins. The youtube livestream can be found here: and the official start is 15:00 GTM+3 (in three hours from now) There will also be real time live results on the sportify app with the password baltic2020 Personally, I never skip this event, but I have to leave at 16:00 :/ I'm definitely watching all of the second day, that will start at 11:00 GTM+3 tomorrow (gonna drop a livestream link too, if anyone is actually interested )

Imagine if we had 14 judges instead and concluded the match with a 7:7, we could pretend that we're doing a penalty shoot out with 5 random, not participating users deciding how the match ends And to make it even more and more complicated we could use 10 with every team having 5 "shots" and if they've voted against the team that they were affiliated, that would mean they didn't score that round I know this won't happen, it's just been a while since I last wrote something on this thread

On a much lighter note, first biathlon competition in Lithuania today, a cross-country sprint. You can follow up on the results here: http://biathlonltu.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Rezultatai-Biatlonas-LTU-Sprintas-krosas-2020-Nemencine.pdf The winners are pretty straightforward, though a DNS for Dombrovski and Kaukėnas did not even register. Tomorrow it's going to be a rollerski sprint
