  2. Incredibly dominant display by Van der Poel after falling in the first lap. This guy can do anything on a bike. Excited for Vader too, that was an unexpected bronze. He said before the race that he was aiming for top 10 and called it an ambitious goal.
  3. Yeah definitely! I totally messed up the recovery. The 1.29 was the peak of a long training period without races, but then 2 weeks later I ran another all out 6 km race (in 24 minutes). It was an event of my former university, so I really wanted to perform. My body wasn't quite as keen on the idea though and I could barely walk afterwards due to the achilles pains.
  4. Great to see so many people running on here! I've been running for 2,5 years now. I used to play football for 10 years, so I had pretty decent stamina to start. My PBs are 19:40 (5K), 40:25 (10K), 1.01:23 (15K) and 1.29:37 (HM). My next race is a 30K trail, I won't be going for speed but just for the experience. I've been struggling with achilles injury since the 1.29 Half, so no new PRs on the horizon sadly.
  5. What a day! But while everyone is discussing the weather and the decisions made, I'm mostly worried that the next 5-10 Tours will be dominated by this young Colombian and a new Ineos train. Holy moly Bernal is so good already.
  6. When the Dutch aren't there I tend to cheer for Italy, France and, when they're competing, Senegal. They are all countries I have great memories in from vacations and internships abroad. I have fond memories of the people I met and the experiences I have had there.
  7. The Dutch Talent Team has had a rather anonymous EYOF so far. Until day 4: Judo Jelle van Teijlingen (-73kg) BRONZE Elin Henninger (-52kg) GOLD Alexe Wagemaker (-57kg) BRONZE Joanne van Lieshout (-63kg) GOLD Swimming Tim Korstanje (50m free) BRONZE The Handball team (W) has also reaches the semi finals, but I haven't seen the results yet. Edit: looks like they beat the Suisse team and progress to the final! Joanne van Lieshout had the best Dutch performance so far, with dominant victories all the way to her gold medal.
  8. What a weird situation, why would a professional athlete smuggle drugs like that. I know little about where and with whom she trains, but this must be crazy news for her coach and training partners. And the 4x400M relay team too.
  9. Gold for Jorinde van Klinken (shot put w) and Femke Bol (400m hurdles w) today! And both 4x100 squads ran good qualifiers. I watched some of the winner's interviews from the Dutch athletes and all of them emphasize the great athmosphere in the team. Even if Van Klinken and Bol were heavy favorites, it looks like the team is really giving each other wings.
  10. Thanks for all your insights in these junior/youth tournaments. How do you keep up to date? Do you have any specific information sources? I've personally been following some of the Dutch 'Talent Teams', so I knew some of the names in this tournament from their good showing in the EYOF 2017 in Gyor. But I find it pretty hard still to place their performances in perspective without knowing their competitors.
  11. Another young medal winner! 16yo Mark Heiden takes the silver in 110m hurdles! It's far too early to tell who will be succesful in the end, but it will be fun to see this generation of 16-18 year olds develop. Could be a very solid group for the Dutch.
  12. Wonder what Hassan is gonna show in the 5K tomorrow. She has been in excellent shape. Was also very impressed by Laura Muir in the 1500m again.
  13. Gold for Onyema Adigida in the 200m (M)! And silver for Robin van Riel in the 3000m (M), with his younger brother in 5th place! Already a better result for the Dutch than the U23 tournament, with more than a full day to go. Exciting!
  14. Buchmann, Pinot, Kruijswijk and Alaphilippe all looked incredibly strong today. Amazing stage!
  15. Aww, Sedney barely missed the 200M finals. She's only 17 and it's her first tournament since a hamstring injury as well, so her chances will hopefully come still! Sven Jansons is going strong in the decathlon, might be a medal contender! Would be surprise to me. I thought the slightly older Rafael Raap and Rudy de Wolff were the more talented Dutch decathletes.
  16. Following @hckosice example, here's an overview of the Dutch team: Netherlands Handball Women's team (15 players) Judo Laurens Wilms (-55kg) Niels Thijssen (-66kg) Jelle van Teijlingen (-73kg) Ian van Herk (-81kg) Axel Heeren (-90kg) Joshlyn Supusepa (-44kg) Indy Godschalk (-48kg) Elin Henninger (-52kg) Alexe Wagemaker (-57kg) Joanne van Lieshout (-63kg) Yael van Heemst (-70kg) Carmen Dijkstra (+70kg) Gymnastics Martijn de Veer Lisa van Roozen Marit Reijnders Zenna van der Lubbe Wrestling Bredi Slinkers (-60kg) Swimming Tim Korstanje (50m free, 100m free, 100m butterfly) Anna van Droffelaar (50m free, 100m breaststroke, 200m breaststroke, 4x100m free, 4x100m medley) Sterre Hendriks (100m breaststroke, 200m breaststroke, 4x100m free, 4x100m medley) Janna van Kooten (100m free, 200m free, 400m free, 4x100m free) Ismay Lichtendonk (100m back, 200m back, 4x100m medley) Milou van Wijk (50m free, 100m free, 100m back, 4x100m free, 4x100m medley) Total: 38 athletes I don't really follow any of these sports. All I can say is Tim Korstanje is probably the younger brother of the talented Nyls Korstanje who won gold (50m free) and silver (100m free) at EYOF 2015 (Tbilisi).
  17. Gold for Alida van Daalen in Discus Throw! And silver for n'Ketia Seedo in women's 100m! A really great day for these young Dutch women, with Alida aged 17 and n'Ketia 16. Impressive display by the Italian sprinters too.
  18. Wow I couldn't watch today's stage, but that is really something else by Alaphilippe. I had no idea he could do that. What a development it would be if he takes this jersey to Paris. And Kruijswijk having another great day too!
  19. Yeah I really hope Van Klinken gets her revenge in shot put. I haven't seen any interviews, so no idea what went wrong. Finals seem to be going on still, but no throws come close to Van Klinken's PB. At least Van Daalen is in 3rd right now. She's at least a year younger, but probably the 2nd biggest Dutch talent in the throwing events.
  20. Femke Bol (400m hurdles W) and Onyema Agadiga (200m M) ran great qualifiers, looking very promising. Zoe Sedney is running her 200M qualifiers now and Seedo's final is tonight. Could prove to be a good day for the Dutch.
  21. Wow Seedo! Amazing display in the qualifier, hope she can translate it into a medal.
  22. Thanks for the list! This helps a lot. I've been really impressed with Belgium's talent development in general. Looks like their investments in the early 2000s paid off well.
  23. Sedney is the younger sister of Dutch sprinter Naomi Sedney. She runs the 200M and 100M Hurdles. She won gold and silver respectively in these events at the U18 Euros in Gyor last year. Van Daalen is the daughter of Dutch discus veteran Jacqueline Goormachtigh, who was national champion for 10 years. She won bronze in shot put and silver in discus throwing in Gyor last year. Both are probably too young to be serious medal candidates this week, but they're amazing talents for the future. Dutch broadcaster VPRO features both in a documentary series they're shooting called 'De Beloften', which roughly translates to 'The promised ones' or just 'The talents'. Edit: just noticed there's a new thread for the U20 tournament, so I'll migrate to that thread :P
  24. Yeah I'm looking forward to the U20s! There's some amazing talents in that squad, most notably Zoe Sedney, Nketia Seedo and Femke Bol on the track. I'm always slightly less familiar with the field events, but Alida van Daalen and Jorinde van Linden are apparently really good in the throwing events. Any German talents I should keep my eyes on in the U20 tournament?
  25. It's a Dutch castle called Kasteel de Haar. A gorgeous place, shame I don't live in it.
