  1. Working on our schedule right now, too. Assuming wifey and I both get drawn, the four of us I think can go to 6 events. Arrive Day 5 (7/19) - Stay in Long Beach (potentially catching kitesurfing finals, if visible from shore with no tickets involved) Day 6 (7/20) - Athletics morning session. Windsurf finals that afternoon, if visible and no ticket required Day 7 (7/21) - Diving (M 10m Prelims), wander around Rose Bowl area Day 8 (7/22) - Beach Volleyball Day 9 (7/23) - Tourism around the Santa Monica Pier/catch the start of the M Road Race at Venice Beach Day 10 (7/24) - Day off Day 11 (7/25) - W Boulder Prelims - what 3 of us really want to see Day 12 (7/26) - Nothing, or something Day 13 (7/27) - Just for funsies catch the Race Walk, or artistic swimming... Day 14 (7/28) - Who knows? Day 15 (7/29) - Swimming (incl W 800m heats to see Ledecky) (I'd rather go to the session with her swimming the 1500m...but alas, of all the things, it overlaps with the W Boulder Prelims) Day 16 (7/30) - Back home Already found a good Long Beach AirBnB, would be perfect for beach volleyball/sport climbing proximity. Also has a pool for relaxing/funsies with the kids. Would love to see various areas of the city, as I've never been. My wife's dream is to see Team USA W Basketball. But too bad no way to know now which session to get.
  2. Having never been to LA, and having never organized a trip to the Olympics (though I did go to a baseball game in 96 when I was just a wee lad), I don't know at all what the best course of action will be regarding lodging and transportation. -I doubt we'll be going to events every day. -We will probably be out there for 7-10 days. Probably flying, as cross-country road trip there and back is almost not worth the time/cost. (Three days each way from SC to the other SC.) -Still need to nail down which events we'd want to go to. -Will be myself, wifey, and our (then) 9 and 13-year-old girls. -Probably AirBnB - more space, kitchen to cook each day to save money, can book starting July or August of this year. If we rent a car, then gotta pay for it each day. If we have a car, no guarantee about parking nearby. Uber? Public transportation? Hypothetical increased Olympic transportation? How does a normal person from LA get from, say, Hollywood to Long Beach? Or the Sepulveda Basin (where the urban sports will be)?
  3. https://la28.org/content/dam/latwentyeight/games-plan/maps/LA28OlympicGamesMap.pdf Here's a map.
  4. Oh, are the ceremonies also gonna be in OKC, too? Yeah, Paris and to a lesser extent MiCo seemed to be games where it was better on TV. I'd want to go to a ceremony where everything was right there in one spot.
  5. Where are you seeing ticket prices already? Edit: I see on the official page they've got that listed. I was hoping for more event by event...but that seems to be coming in April. I also haven't begun to look at maps yet. I imagine that when we go, we'll also incorporate some other SoCal sightseeing (maybe even venturing to other parts of the state, national parks, etc.). I've never been to Cali at all. But yeah, geography will figure into all of this.
  6. Oh, and of course, top of my bucket list would be Opening Ceremonies...but I think that will need to be something for after the kids are out of the house and we'd only have to buy two tickets.
  7. I'm mostly curious about how much tickets are going to be running for events...we're over here on two teacher salaries, and we'd be taking our two kids with us.
  8. Yes! Thanks for this thread. I just saw where the first ticket drop will be some time in April (crazy...two years ahead of time!). My wife would love to see a women's basketball game (specifically Team USA...but I don't think we'll be able to know which game will be theirs), or women's volleyball. I personally would love to see sport climbing (boulder, preferably) or table tennis. Perhaps even Modern Pentathlon (would get to see a variety of things). Gymnastics would be fun, depending on the event.
  9. Welcome @MichiganGold! Glad to have you here. Feel free to drop an introduction. Perhaps some of our other regulars @Quaker2001 @bmo @Bear Hollow @Triplecast and @Book can introduce themselves as well.
  10. https://www.instagram.com/p/DVGlrZuDYhq/ Update from Lindsey Vonn. Can't imagine.
  11. Also, I missed this moment...but check out this sprint to the end (for last place) in the M Mass Start. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0k6khs5QeBQ
  12. https://www.olympics.com/en/milano-cortina-2026/results/athlete-details/42254 One of my favorite things that the Olympics site does is have the athletes record themselves pronouncing their names. Just click on the speaker icon next to their name.
  13. And now that the WOG are over...I can return my attention to Summer Sports. Got some catching up to do. BRB in a few days.
  14. Final CC thoughts... Diggins - It sounds like she's proud of her performances in her final runs. She gave it her all. Glad she was able to bring home a little hardware. Ben Ogden - What a surprise! You're on my radar now, kid! And another silver with Schumacher? See you both hopefully in 2030!
  15. Bobsled final thoughts... 4th place for Del Duca in the 2-Man...great job! Wish he could've podiumed, but nice work. Then three medals for our women?! Yes! 1-3 in Mono, and Kaillie with another Bronze in 2-Woman. Great job, team. (And mad props to all these moms, dads, 40+ year olds, etc.!)
  16. Final thoughts... We ended up 8th in the Men's Team and 7th in the Mixed Team. Let's just keep building slowly but surely!
  17. Final curling thoughts... Silver for Cory/Korey. 4th for our Women. 5th for our new team of Men. I'd say we did quite nicely. This Saturday, I'm attending the semifinals of the USA National Championships in Charlotte. With any luck, I might get to see Team Shuster in action. And perhaps some of our Olympians will decide to come visit? Looking forward to this!
  18. Ok...biathlon final thoughts. No medal...still. But let's find some bright spots: 1) Highest finish for the Men's relay (fifth!). 2) Campbell was 8th in Pursuit. Let's keep building, team! See you in 2030!
  19. Final thoughts... Ok, so Jordan didn't sweep all his events...but c'mon... Gold, Gold, Silver, and 4th place in the four events? Pretty great! Seemed to keep a good spirit about him the whole time, like he's a likeable guy. (Did y'all catch the image of him walking in one day with a fake mullet?) Hate that Bowe finished with three 4th-place finishes, but she does have a bronze from 2018 and 2022. Mia Manganello with a Bronze in MS, and our Men getting Silver in TP (thanks to some Italian magic for their men). A successful Olympics in this sport, I'd say.
  20. Final thoughts on Figure Skating... Another whirlwind of emotions. 1) Team Event - I mean, everyone did exactly what they needed to do. Even Kam/O'Shea performed when they needed to to get the points we needed. (Hopefully that gave her some confidence!). Chock/Bates showed out, as they always do. Amber was so great, Ilia was good (but a little shaken), and Amber...well...she continued to be inside her head too much unfortunately...but I'm glad she ultimately could get redemption in the Free Skate in the individual event later. I really loved the team element here...my first time paying attention to the event. (And don't let Japan find some ice dancers, or we'll really have to be scared.) 2) Pairs - I was glad to see Chan/Howe have a good event overall, eventually leapfrogging over Kam/O'Shea. 3) Men - Emotional time for Max Naumov in his short program. (I actually missed his long program, but I think he fell a time or two). And Ilia...well...I saw his interview after the Gala, and I hope what he said was true, that he realized his purpose is to bring joy to the viewers...so hopefully he can take a cue from Alysa, get out of his head, and go out there and do what we all know he can do. 4) Women - Ok, yes, Isabeau and Amber are good...but Alysa...what a moment. The top two Japanese ladies were so good, and just like at the GPF, they made just small mistakes that allowed Alysa to end up on top. A great moment for US Ladies Figure Skating! 5) Dance - Chock & Bates are the greatest. 'Nuff said. (Their Gala performance was also stunning.) (And yes, Cizeron/Beaudry Fournier are also fantastic. Let's not complain that there's too much good art happening on the rink.) (My wife is already saying that she hopes Chock/Bates make cute little ice dancing babies. )
  21. Final thoughts on Ice Hockey... ...um... I don't think anything needs to be said. We did it. WE DID IT. Twice. (As a not-hockey viewer, I enjoyed watching the little hockey I did, which was primarily just the finals. Helps, too, that we won.)
  22. Final thoughts... Two medals in all...this is Japan's sport. But we had some top finishes, and should see several of these guys and gals in four years. 17-year-old Ollie Martin - 4th place in Big Air Jake Canter - Bronze in Slopestyle (Red Gerard and Ollie made it to Top 10, too) Of course Chloe Kim showed out, earning Silver in HP. Not too much luck in PGS, and in SBX, of course there was Baumgartner's 7th place finish, and Faye Thelen finished similarly for the ladies.
  23. Final thoughts on Luge... I knew we had some potential here, and I'm glad we were able to nab one medal (Ashley Farquharson's bronze)...but I think the future is bright for our team. Looking at the results, Men's Singles is our weak point, our men finishing 11 and 20. And let's not forget our rookies Haugsjaa/Mueller topping the leaderboard after Run 1 in Men's Doubles! Just one mistake at the end of Run 2 cost them a medal. So close! Our relay (another one of my fav events) had us finishing 5th...but I think we can sneak onto the podium next time if we tighten up a few things.
  24. Concluding thoughts on Alpine Skiing... Obviously quite the emotional roller coaster here. 1) Can we get a few more decent men, plz? (Props to Kyle Negomir for finishing 10th in DH at least.) 2) RCS - So proud of his performance in the Super-G. A silver medal I wasn't expecting! 3) Vonn - Glad she was able to climb back and reach the Olympics. She had the goods, but we know how the story went out. She'll continue to inspire, though. 4) Breezy - What a Gold in DH! 5) Shiffrin - After her first descent in the Team Event, I was worried for her Slalom competition later. But thrilled to see her earn the Gold that she most definitely deserved! 6) Wiles/Moltzan - Wiles had her 4th place finish in DH, doing so after being just the second skiier (I think) after Vonn's crash. Mad kudos. And then this duo nabbing the Bronze in Team! Applause all around!
  25. Short-track thoughts... While I know we aren't a powerhouse by any stretch of the imagination, I did think we underperformed here. I was thrilled when Corrine Stoddard nabbed the bronze in the 1500m. But unfortunately, we just kept falling.
