The biggest threat to our 4x200m chances is a spread of COVID through the team. Respectable from both Evans and Morgan. Nothing to be ashamed of with those performances.

Pretty much. We start as underdogs but, in theory, it's not a bad draw. Probably the best we could have hoped for. Getting to the QF was already a success. Anything more would be a huge bonus.

If you think that we have a serious medal chance in the mixed medley, you're a braver soul than me.

Given your recent record in predictions, this means we're set for a record swimming meet... Joking aside, and assuming that more swimmers don't come down with something, this impacts our medal chances in one event, and even that event we were not a medal favourite. Hardly a disaster, yet.

That's from the section before, which the TV coverage didn't show. When Tom had suddenly caught Victor. I wondered what had happened and now we know. But what it shows me is that Victor was right on the limit - as was Tom! - and was capable of making the slight misjudgment because of it. Which is what happened on 'the pass' - he left the line open not thinking that Tom would go for it. Then when he realised that Tom *was* going for it, he tried to close the gap too late and then had to take avoiding action. Unfortunate for him, but just a racing thing for me.

Oh Tom, you don't half make it stressful.

He's won from bigger gaps and he's won by bigger gaps when he's been in front. Clearly he could have another mechanical. But so could they. It's far from over.

I wouldn't be writing Tom off just yet.

Womens 7s team make hard work of it, but beat 26-17 to qualify for the QFs in all but the most technical sense (it's possible that they could be knocked out but it would take a crazy set of results).

We shoot up to 7th in the medal table, or joint 6th if you prefer the NBC medal table.

Kwiato has pulled out of the RR for Stanisław Aniołkowski replacing him.

I'm sure Laura would rather have the gold in the bag and the potential of more than the other way around!

Did we ever work out where the 15 point penalty for Ros came from in the CC? She would be right in the top 10 going into the individual herself without it.

It is not a big failure. It's a small failure. They've both been off form all year and Medi has suffered family tragedy. It's impressive that she's even here. And the only person making that narrative is you.

It was definitely the most likely outcome. I was just hoping that one of them or MacInnes was going to find something here to make it competitive. But doesn't seem to be the case sadly.

First really disappointing swims for me this week - both Harris and Dawson look like they will miss the SFs. That's not good. And probably torpedoes any lingering ideas we had about a mixed medley relay.

Swimming medal chances have just improved with both Gorbenko and Forrester missing the final...You have to think that there's 3 people going for 2 medals - Freya and the 2 Americans.

It's also worth noting that our 4 medals thus far have come in 4 different sports. Which keeps up our recent record of being one of the more diverse medal winning nations out there. Obviously I want us to win a ton of medals but knowing that we are competitive in a lot of sports is a very pleasing thing. I prefer that to being very good at 1 or 2 and that's it.

At the risk of cursing us, today is the first day I'm expecting us to win a bunch of medals. I reckon we have six very good chances today: Men's 200m free Mountain Bike Team Eventing Individual Eventing 10m Synchro Team Final - Gymnastics And we have a bunch of maybes. By contrast, day 1 and 2 only had six chances each day, and some of them were maybes. Obviously, if today doesn't go well, it's not a good sign.
