  1. Is it better to go home empty handed having lost in the first round or semi-finals of the individual event, or go home with a bronze medal from the mixed relay? I take the point that the scheduling is a mess, but we did have 400 hurdlers that could potentially have been swapped in.
  2. Charlie Aldridge a disappointing 21st in Olympic Cross Country at World Championships. From the lap splits, it doesn't look like he was ever really in the fight.
  3. Beth Potter back on top of the podium with victory at the WTCS event in Karlovy Vary. 13 seconds ahead of Taylor Spivey and almost a minute ahead of 3rd placed Lisa Tertsch. Olivia Mathias finished in 9th whilst Sian Rainsley rounded out the top ten. Jessica Fullagar was down in 19th place.
  4. Day 1 - Evening Results Women's Long Jump (Qualifying)- Jaz Sawyers misses out on a place in the final after placing 16th overall with a jump of 6.54m - well down on the automatic qualifying of 6.75m and 6cm shy of 12th place. It's a shame, but in the context of her return from injury perhaps it is understandable. Women's 100m (Heats) - All 3 Brits safely through (although I actually fell asleep so didn't see them ) Women's 1,500m (Heats)- Erin Wallace (Heat 1) finishes in 8th and doesn't progress. Revee Walcott-Nolan (Heat 2) qualifies for semi finals but looked far from convincing. Laura Muir (Heat 4) - Lord knows what happened to her in the last 100m. Such a shame given she seemed to be rounding into decent form. Men's 100m (Heats) - Romell Glave (Heat 1) finished 4 in 10 flat so had to rely on fastest loser spot. Jeremiah Azu (Heat 4) and Zharnel Hughes (Heat 6) both take automatic spots. Hughes looked the most likely to get to the final. Men's Shot Put (Final) - Scott Lincoln qualified for the final in 5th with 21.00m - and finishes 8th in the final with 21.00m. It was the highest place by a brit in a Shot Put final so can't really complain. Women's 10,000m (Final) - Megan Keith and Cali Haugher-Thackery finish in 10th and 11th so both hit my target of top 12 finish. m. A top 12 finish and/or being the first European to finish would be decent result. Mixed 4x400m Relay (Final) - GB finished a disappointing 5th. The selectors kept faith with Lewis Davies and instead switched out Yemi Mary John. Harries and Yeargin were left with too much to do - had we been better placed, I think the bronze was there for the taking. Can't help thinking this was a missed opportunity to get the medal count moving on day 1
  5. Evie Richards misses out on a medal at the World Championships as she finishes 4th - 12 seconds off the bronze.
  6. take the bronze medal at European Softball Championships with a 4-2 win over (having previously lost to them in the last pool game) That's the 3rd Championship in a row where GB have medaled - although previous 2 versions we took home the silver. Lots of positives to take away but if GB wants to be competing in Los Angeles, they will need to come up with a way to defeat both and
  7. Day 1 - Evening Men's 3,000m Steeplechase (Heats) - No Brits in Action. Women's Long Jump (Qualifying)- Jaz Sawyers is back in a GB vest and competes in Group B. With a season's best of 6.89m she's about 10th overall by SB so should have good chance of getting into the final. Women's 100m (Heats) - Dina Asher-Smith (Heat 2), Daryll Neita (Heat 5) and Amy Hunt (Heat 6) aiming for top 3 finish or 3 fastest loser spots. Expectations - All world class athletes with aspirations of getting to the final. DAS is 1 of only 2 athletes to go under 11 seconds in her heat. Neita is 3rd fastest by SB in her heat and could be challenged by Hungarian Takacs. Hunt probably has the toughest draw with White, Bertrand and Dosso. All 3 are capable of progressing and I think that they should all advance. Men's Pole Vault (Qualifying)- No Brits in Action. Women's 1,500m (Heats)- Erin Wallace (Heat 1), Revee Walcott-Nolan (Heat 2) and Laura Muir (Heat 4) all looking for a top 6 finish to advance. Expectations - All well capable of getting to semi-finals and final so expect all three to do enough to progress. Shame that Georgia Hunter Bell elected not to double up. Men's 100m (Heats) - Romell Glave (Heat 1), Jeremiah Azu (Heat 4) and Zharnel Hughes (Heat 6) all targeting top 3 finish or 3 fastest loser spots. Expectations - All capable of getting through, and think at least 2 will progress, but have a feeling that at least 1 of them may have to rely on fastest loser spot. Men's Shot Put (Final) - Scott Lincoln qualified in 5th with 21.00m. Hopefully he can build on that and, whilst a medal is likely beyond him, he could/should be aiming for top 6. Women's 10,000m (Final) - Megan Keith and Cali Haugher-Thackery both compete. Haugher-Thackery lowered her PB earlier this year, but neither she or Keith are likely to trouble the podium. A top 12 finish and/or being the first European to finish would be decent result. Mixed 4x400m Relay (Final) - GB qualified as second fastest this morning. Expect Netherlands to bring in Bol which would likely put gold and silver out of reach. Would like to see GB change out Davies but will need to wait and see. Expectations - GB could finish anywhere from 3rd to 5th. A lot will depend on changes made to the squads, but the battle for bronze could come down to fight between GB and Italy.
  8. Day 1 - Morning Results Men's 35km Race Walk - Depending on your outlook on life, Cameron Corbishley finished last or he finished 34th - both things are true. Fair pay to him for qualifying in the first place and for managing to complete the full 35km when 16 others failed to reach the finishing line. Men's Shot Put (Qualifying) - Scott Lincoln throws 21.00m in the third round and qualifies for the final in 5th place overall. Good morning's work. Mixed 4x400m Relay (Qualifying) - finish 2nd and progress to the final - largely thanks to the efforts of Yemi Mary John and Nicole Yeargin. Hopefully they switch out Lewis Davey because he was going backwards in the last 70m or so. were the surprise package, managing to hold off Italy for the last automatic qualifying spot.
  9. I think the saying is 'One Swallow Doesn't Make a Summer'. There are certainly a lot of positives to take away from this week's results, but at the same time, there are factors that should prevent us getting too far ahead of ourselves. We know there were a lot of countries missing - some of them would only be making up the numbers but others would have been in the mix and as we get closer to LA, we'll see people moving around the weight divisions. Competing as the home nations helps dilute the draws and gives us more opportunities to get to the later stages of the event. Also, we shouldn't underestimate the performance boost we get with home town advantage - it is one of the reasons GB should be doing everything it can to be staging qualifying events for LA '28. It's early in the cycle, but we got 6 boxers qualified for Paris and based on the results from this week I'd say there's a good chance we will have a bigger boxing squad going to LA. BTW, I've only got 3 medals in Olympic weights? Men's 70Kg - Odel Kamara Men's 75Kg - Callum Makin Men's 80Kg - Teagn Stott Women's 70Kg - Chantelle Reid Women's 80Kg - Emily Asquith
  10. involvement in the World Surf Games comes to an end. Patrick Langdon-Dark bowed out in Repechage yesterday and he was followed by Arran Strong who came 3rd in his heat in Repechage 5 earlier today. Charlotte Mulley was the best of the Brits for the women but she exits the competition in Repechage 6.
  11. Day 1 - Morning Men's 35km Race Walk - Cameron Corbishley should be the first Brit off the starting line. He's got a SB of 2:36:06 and PB of 2:31:34. He's unlikely to trouble the podium. Women's 35km Race Walk - No Brits in action. Women's Discus (Qualifying) - No Brits in action. (Spoiler alert: This is going to be a repeated line for a lot of the field events) Men's Shot Put (Qualifying) - Scott Lincoln goes in Group B and carries a SB of 21.09m and PB of 21.31m. Automatic qualifying is 21.35m. 9 athletes have a SB in excess of that and Ryan Crouser returns to action post injury. Lincoln is about 14th/15th based on his SB so will have a chance of getting to the final. Expectation Management - Unfortunately Lincoln never seems to have been able to make the most of his opportunities at major championships. He will probably need a new Season's Best, but if he can get over 21m he has good chance to get to the final. Men's 100m Preliminaries - No Brits in Action. Mixed 4x400m Relay (Qualifying) - are drawn in heat 1 with the top 3 qualifying for the evening's final along with the 2 fastest times. GB should be able to navigate the round safely with the biggest competition - based on SB times - being and . would likely have been in the mix but they will be seriously weakened without Rhasidat Adeleke. and could push GB close. Expectation Management - Will be significant disappointment if GB don't make it to the final. I'd say they qualify in 2nd with a time around 3:13.00-3:14.00
  12. In the World Surf Games, Arran Strong drops out of the main draw and joins Repechage 4. Alys Barton is through to Repechage 3, but Imari Hearn bows out of the competition in Repechage 2.
  13. Given Tokyo is only a few days away, renaming the thread and bumping it to the top of the pile
  14. are still likely to progress to the final pool stage irrespective of the result against - but it will probably determine which medal you end up competing for. On the flip side, if you're going to have a poor tournament, it is better that it happens now rather than when Olympic qualification is on the line.
  15. Evie Richards DNF in the Short Track World Championships. Bit of a shame as she was up there in medal contention in laps 4-7. She dropped off the pace in lap 8 before withdrawing - hopefully a mechanical issue and not an injury. Isla Short was 15th. Charlie Aldridge was a DNS in the qualification of the men's event. In the men's under-23, Max Greensill was the last of the finishers (38th) whilst Ella Maclean-Howell was 7th in the women's under-23
  16. Not sure I'd agree with that - losing to means the match against becomes almost a must win match. Going into the final pool carrying a 1-1 record gives you a solid chance of making it to the Championship Match. Taking a 0-2 record will make that much more difficult. At best, you'd be looking at competing for the bronze medal.
  17. maintain 100% record at the European Softball Championships with 8-0 win over They've got 2 more pool matches tomorrow - starting off with in the first match of the day and finishing up with in the last match. Both matches likely to be a step up from the competition they've faced so far with Ukraine ranked 21st in the world and the Netherlands ranked 6th. These are the kind of matches GB would need to be winning if they are to have hope of getting the European quota for LA'28
  18. The 2025 World Surf Games got underway last week in El Salvador. On the men's side, Arran Strong is through to Round 3 whilst Logan Nicol and Patrick Langdon-Dark are now in Repechage 2. For the women, Charlotte Mulley is through to Round 3 whilst Alys Barton and Imari Hearn are in Repechage 2.
  19. men's lacrosse team are taking part in the Canadian Super Sixes event in Ontario from October 10-12. They'll be competing against , , and . No sign of the women's team competing though.
  20. comfortably through their second pool match with a 12-0 demolition of . Next up is tomorrow afternoon
  21. The Women's European Softball championships have got underway in . are two time silver medalists and have been drawn in Group Y against , and They got their tournament off to a solid start with a 5-2 win over France yesterday and will take on Greece later this afternoon.
  22. After securing the British title last week, Joel Makin fell just short in the London Classic, losing out to 13-11 / 11-7 / 11-8
  23. The commonwealth team will be smaller than in 2022 - 28 compared to 34 - but I'd still expect to see a lot of the top stars doubling up
  24. I think the French track and field team were facing the same issue ahead of Tokyo World champs
  25. Alex Yee made a somewhat underwhelming return to the WTCS with a 9th place finish in the French Riviera event. It was a sprint event rather than full Olympic distance. He had the 2nd fastest 5km run but he'd already lost a minute on the swim and bike legs to eventual winner Matt Hauser. Connor Bentley came home in 17th whilst Ben Dijkstra was 19th. On the women's side, Beth Potter was 5th, Olivia Mathias 12th and Sian Rainsley 15th. Jess Fullagar was the last of the Brits, coming home in 19th place. The next stop in the series is Karlovy Vary in a couple of weeks time. Max Stapley, Hugo Milner, Oliver Conway, Jack Willis and Harry Leleu are on the start list for the men's event whilst Kate Waugh, Olivia Mathias, Sian Rainsley, Jess Fullagar and Beth Potter line up in the women's event.
