And Argentina is fourth AGAIN in the medal count for a single gold medal.........i cant believe this, i dont imagine this scene before

Note: i must learn of Ldog and his realistic-pessimistic way to see our athletes.

I didn't get why you understimate Venezuela. Their sport doesn't really depend on their economy that much, it's always heavy state support and their government isn't really cutting spending like in Brazil or Argentina.

Well, you are rigth like all the comunist countrys spend a lot in their sports but i remember the performance of Venezuela in the youth south american games and i think their disaster in the economy has some effect in their sports, my mistake, another thing is: Venezuela send most of their best athletes and Argentina didnt do it in some sports.

I think it will be something like this:

1. Colombia

2. Brazil

3. Argentina

4. Venezuela

5. Chile

6. Ecuador

7. Peru

8. Paraguay

9. Uruguay

10. Panama or Bolivia (really don't know if they have many chances for gold)

Damn, Argentina, you screwed my predictions! :spank:

Spoiler

Although I have cheated for that 10th position.

I prefer ranking countries by total number of medals, so in my world Argentina finished third. Even though they lost in number of gold medals to Venezuela, in my opinion Argentina's performance left a much bigger impression than their performance in 2014.

I'm happy with Bolivia finishing in the top 10, and with a gold medal on the final day to close the Games perfectly. I'm also surprised with Argentina losing the gold medal in Modern Pentathlon to a duo of youngsters from Brazil. It's great to see this sport is not dead in Brazil after the retirement of (one of my favorite athletes ever) Yane Marques.

I don't get why our ukranian didn't compete in the mixed (one of many things i didn't understand in our delegation..)

I think that taking here the absolute best athletes in every sport (and assuming the other countries remain the same) we would have won 14-18 more gold medals (5 or 6 in swimming, 2 or 3 more in kayak, 4 in Basketball, 1 in mens rugby, 1 or 2 more in shooting and 1 or 2 more between equestrian/athletics/judo).

In 2014 we had the best athletes for everything that wasnt the team sports.

So Evo Morales has promised a prize money for all the bolivian medalists. US$ 30.000 for the gold medalists, 20.000 for the silver medalists, and 10.000 for the bronze medalists. Bolivia won 4 gold, 15 silver and 15 bronze medals, so the sum surpasses half a million. With her 3 silver medals, swimmer Karen Torrez won US$ 60.000!

Conrrado Kevin Ortiz from Racquetball won 3 gold medals, but I suppose the prize is divided among teammates (so he should get 55.000?):

Singles: US$ 30.000
Doubles: US$ 15.000
Teams: US$ 10.000

It's nice for athletes to earn something, but I believe gold medalists should receive a lot more.

Curious thing: Aruna Reddy from India earned a bronze medal on vault at the Melbourne World Cup stage in artistic gymnastics this year, and the governor of her state paid her the equivalent to US$ 540,000.00. Diego Hypólito has won 69 medals at different World Cup stages according to his Instagram page, so imagine how rich he would have been if he lived in India.

    • Apparently this season will be last one in Kamil Stoch career if his results wont be enough good for his standards.
    • Such a nice one for Colturi ! That was fun. It almost looked like a script with the cameras focusing on Colturi a couple of times before her first run and showcasing the potential of youngster and she didn't disappoint.      I hope Colturi skis for Albania forever. So much fun to cheer her with the Albanian flag.    I don't get it why everyone is being so critical of Colturi, you got no right to criticize a personal decision, as most European nations use imported athletes in many sports like wrestling and cheer them on like their.   Would you spend hours criticizing Frank Chamizo for switching to Italy rather than playing for Cuba?

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
