We are all jumping the gun...I feel Indian girls have done well in qualifiers to get much favourable draw and avoid Korea till final...if they reach final they have experience of defeating korea

I'm happy with the progress. Wish we had Men's team also. Wishes apart, our best hope for a medal is in Women Team. 7th place is very good. If you don't get 2/3, 6/7 or 10/11 are the best. koreans are formidable and are in a different league but obviously not invincible. Someone else can knock them out (just like 2012 men team event). Also, we are also having mental block against China and Taiwan (don't know why). Atanu Das if he continues the form should reach QF with out much ado. We should also not forget Deepika Kumari got a very reasonable draw for her quest. The "missed" arrow should be a huge lesson. Can't afford that in main competition. Good that it happened already. Credits should also be given to Bombayla Devi, she remained in top 16/10 for larger part of the competition. As far as Lakshmi Manji is concerned, probably she is feeling the pressure. She is definitely  a decent archer if not immensely talented.

Archery draw - falls by luck to be very favorable for Indian women

Womens draw as discussed above no koreans till the finals which is good but after that it is left to the players to play with concerted focus ......

Deepika our best hope does not face any of the koreans till the semis................. she has the formidable YT Tan of TPE in her quarter and her first big challenge may be ITA sartori in the round of 64 ....................If she holds her nerve together .............she seemed very nervous in the ranking round ...she was in the top 5 in the first half and leading at one point in time ( but a M which means a 0 pulled her down.................. with a shocking 5 ...no top archer does a 5 ...so she just needs to focus her nerves )

L Majhi faces a relatively unknown SVK archer and if she plays her usual game should win , she will probably face a chinese Qi ( world 23 )  in the next round, should be tight but could progress , then she would face either aida roman silver medalllist london or wu ( world 20 ) ......she can proceed further ...but she will need a miracle to cross Ki Bo bae of korean in the quarters ...still a reasonable draw for someone who has come 43 in the rankings in the qualification

Laishram bombayla has a easier first round against AUT unknown but the next round may be her last as she faces Lin shih chia  ( world no 10 ) from taipei in the round of 32 ...if she survives that she may face MEX world 18 valencia , if she gets past these formidale obstacle she faces Choi korean number 1 in the quarters ...I hope she can hold her nerve in the first couple of matches

Look ahead for the olympics day 1 - Huge day ( see Home page @gvaisakh has given all the timings )

1.ROWING

Dattu in the qualification ...... three rowers  from each round will go through to qualification / remainining go thru to repechage  there are 6 rowers in the heats . ( Heat 1 )

  rower  Time Time
  Luigi Teilemb 23px-Flag_of_Vanuatu.svg.png Vanuatu
  Juan Carlos Cabrera 23px-Flag_of_Mexico.svg.png Mexico
  Armandas Kelmelis 23px-Flag_of_Lithuania.svg.png Lithuania
  Ángel Fournier 23px-Flag_of_Cuba.svg.png Cuba
  Dattu Baban Bhokanal 23px-Flag_of_India.svg.png India
  Jaruwat Saensuk 23px-Flag_of_Thailand.svg.png Thailand

..India should easily beat vanuatu and thailand ...the cuban , lithuanian and mexican would probably finish in the first three with the Cuban first without a doubt ( he is world championship silver medalllist ) , the lithuanian ( 2nd most probably - european junior  champion , lithuanian star rower in single sculls was injured and replaced a month before olympics ) and mexican may fight it out ,,,,,,can dattu sneak in a third possible but unlikely ...most probable result 4th .....best case 3rd ( he can beat the mexican possibly )  .................:fingers:

"Nothing was wrong apart from the wind. It was difficult to follow and understand. I shot the arrow and it was a miss. Of course is not what I expected, but there's nothing I can do about it now," Deepika said after the event.

This clears the doubt that she indeed miss the arrow and not the time out issue....

Lot is being said about yesterday's slip up by Deepika...

Lets just say its better to make all the mistakes in the ranking rounds....Hopefully they'll get a feel of things and do well........

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)

    • I read the Olympic qualification documents for weightlifting. A country can have the opportunity to send a maximum of 4 athletes in one gender, but the conditions are very strict.
    • world champion Jessica Schilder opened her season up with 19.78 in France.
    • wait! what???   so, there won't be specialized double sculls, but those boats would have to feature 2 single specialists if a Nation wants to enter 2 proper singles M+W??? tell me I misread the expalaination...
    • Yeah, they do get broadcast pretty regularly.  I remember even back in Bode Miller's day they would show the training.
