Sitting in 7th after dressage day 1 are Fylicia Barr & Galoway Sunrise.

Her one and only horse, whom she acquired over a suspicious Craigslist ad for $500 over a decade ago.

Just proving for the umpteenth time that the mainstream conception of equestrian sport is just wrong.

Kentucky Three-day is completed.

https://kentuckythreedayevent.com/leaderboard/

Regarding the Olympic selection, Boyd Martin, Philip Dutton and Tamie Smith are the front-runners for the :USA American team. Where do I sign? :d Yeah, Kentucky Three-day is their main selection event, but I fear Tamie will be left out in favor of some establishment... Granted, she made a mistake on cross-country yesterday (11 pens for activating meme clip), but even so, she still defeated other contenders like Liz Halliday-Sharp, Will Coleman and Lauren Nicholson. We'll see, but Dutton and especially Martin should be considered as Tokyo bound already.

As for the :CAN Canadian team (well, two individual starters)... No idea what happens here. Colleen Loach had a freak fall in the show jumping of all phases, but surely she must be safe (aboard either Qorry Blue or Vermont). Lisa Maria Fergusson is the only one who completed Kentucky, but her horse Honor Me has been past its peak for like 2-3 years now. Karl Slezak fell and is surely out (?). Hawley Bennett-Awad withdrew before the cross-country, so I guess she will be aiming to prove her form elsewhere.

Out of international starters, :AUS Kevin McNab and :NZL Jesse Campbell have proven their form and could just sneak in on their respective teams.

This woman is on fire this year.

It would be a great shame if she gets disregarded by the US selectors. Mostly because it is so unusual to see a West Coast rider sweeping an East Coast event like this.

Damn... This part gave me chills. Quality of movement, background music, the whole package... Always nice to be reminded of the beauty of this sport. :d

@hckošice Bugan made his post-lockdown international comeback. I guess he is preparing for the Europeans in September, for which he qualified today, and secretly hoping for a Tokyo reallocation. :d

Thanks, that is really great. Hope they will progress and maybe make a huge nation Olympic debut in this sport in Paris.

I know, Tokyo is highly unlikely, and I do not expect any miracle, but, just out of curiosity how many nations would have to decline for Bugan to qualify via reallocation ?

One of Belarus or Ukraine withdrawing would be enough. Probably not going to happen, but as the first reserve (for Group C) he has to be ready.

Might as well post a couple of videos from the career-highlight event (Rotterdam Europeans) for this occasion...

Historic team qualification for the Olympics

Individual 5th place. But damn, not a great example of TV directing. :d

    • British Columbia in general and Vancouver in particular are awesome and it’s great more people got to discover it thanks to Vancouver 2010.
    • And of course the British being famous for curmudgeons, there were always plenty of curmudgeons to quote.  Then of course from the opening ceremony and the cycle race on the very first morning it was obviously going to be triumph, so everyone just shut up for a while.
    • Yep, the amount of emergency services I heard at some point was a little extreme (for our little town), so I checked what was going on and saw they were all being called to a specific location. Until then I thought maybe it was part of a parade of trucks and agricultural vehicles that was on it's way from the next town over, decorated with lights and stuff.   Since I knew it was on the parade route, I was sure one of those big vehicles had hit people somehow (there were, besides the many vehicles, also two helicopters on the way, meaning it certainly wasn't about a single victim).   We picked our bikes and went to take a look, absolutely chaos in the area. Never saw so many services combined together, fire trucks from 20km away, ambulance after ambulance came racing by, people frantically trying to make way for them (the roads weren't really closed yet).   While there we heard someone who had been close say that the parade hadn't arrived yet and what seemed to have happened was that a car from the other side came onto the roundabout and simply never turned. "It's a massive drama over there, unbelievable", he said.   Quite quickly rumours started spreading of course, the first one turned out to be true: a middle aged (local) woman was behind the wheel and seems to have become unwell. Local security camera showed the car going at high speed right before the roundabout.   Plenty of rumours going around in terms of who were involved of course, and people keeping each other up to date to see if they know this or that family and such...   Never expected my little town to be big news in the Netherlands, even including some breaking broadcasts, live reporters and everything, damn. By far the biggest thing to happen here in my memory

    • For me, these were very good Olympics, and British sport benefited greatly from them, and is still benefiting. I fear it will be much worse here. Canada also benefited very good on Vancouver 2010 – this is very good see in the medal standings of subsequent Winter Games after 2010 and earlier.
    • Nobody hates Britain more than the British media so… I recall it being quite a pessimistic tone before the London games started.
    • I'm curious what was written before London 2012? Did they attack their own country, or did they just keep quiet?

    • Very true point.  Although I think at this point everyone is just holding their collective breath until the test event.  The NHL isn't going to rage anymore until then because it's not like that would make the arena progress go any quicker
