justony 454 Posted March 3, 2020 Author #191 Share Posted March 3, 2020 OLYMPIC FOCUS I will try to go through all previous performances and to find out, what the future brings, if particular sport will have representatives in Tokio. PART 17 Equestrian I am always surprised, how this is not sport, in which we could seldom see Slovenian athletes. Our lovely land is known for its beautiful heritage, one of most recognized is Lipicanec (Lipizzaner), special breed, originated from small town of Lipica in Littoral Slovenian. Nevertheless, there were two Games with Slovenian participation in equestrian. Vladimir Seunig competed in 1924, where he took part in Dressage. Another three athletes competed in Dressage at the 1984 Games, with Alojz Lah finishing highest (15th). It does not look, there could be another representative any soon, though there are a lot of organized events on international level, especially in Jumping events. justony 454 Posted March 3, 2020 Author #192 Share Posted March 3, 2020 OLYMPIC FOCUS I will try to go through all previous performances and to find out, what the future brings, if particular sport will have representatives in Tokio. PART 18 Fencing Fencing brought first Slovenian performance in history of Olympic Games and also first medal. Rudolf Cvetko competed in 1912 under Austrian-Hungary empire and won a silver medal in Team event with sabre. In Berlin 1936 delegation consisted of 3 men and 1 female. All 3 male competitor finished 12th in Team Foil event for Yugoslavia. In modern era there are only a few athletes, who found their place on World Rankings, with no fencer coming close to top 100, so there will not be any Slovenian in Tokio. For example, last year in Budapest, there were no one who could pass qualification through the last 64.

PART 19 Field Hockey Field Hockey is one of those sports, in which Slovenia never came even close to qualify for Qlympics. In our country there are currently only three active teams, all from North Eastern part. Main cause is due to conditions, apart from Lipovci, Predanovci and Moravske Toplice other towns don't have artificial grass court. Interestingly enough, in our land there is still official name for this sport "Hokej na travi", which means "Grass Hockey", though it is very rarely played on grass. Slovenia National Team played last season in lowest tier of EuroHockey Challenge, where they finished last, that means 29th in Europe. In 2009, team competed in second tier, which was biggest success so far. Currently, there are 90 nations on FIH World Rankings, Slovenia is ranked 72nd. Women are on 48th place among 75 teams.
