don't even joke about that!

the Bolzano arena is good for their team and for B/C division worlds, not for serious games

When was the last time the Arena in Turin was used for sporting things?

This plus the relative organizational mess that is French Alps 2030 makes me wonder in who’s cornflakes Sweden pissed to be passed up twice (losing to Milan I thought at the time and still do think was reasonable, but losing out to a French bid that wasn’t even half baked was such a joke).

That's a new idiom I've learned today!

Yes and now France doesn’t want to build a speed skating oval (even a temporary one).

Like to be clear, I have no problem with France winning a winter Olympic bid. I think Nice is a great city to anchor a Winter Olympic. My issue is that the bid that won 2030 was basically “ya we want to host the Winter Olympics and we’ll figure out stuff later”. To a degree every Olympic game is a work in progress but that one took it to the extreme.

I still think it's crazy that countries get to host the Olympics after only six years have passed since the last event. Not saying it's bad, but it's interesting to look at.

Liptovski Mikulas?

Actually, we submitted a bid for the 2006 Olympics, which we eventually didn't really expand on. The 2022 Polish bid also included some events in Slovakia.

I think 2006 was too early for Poland and Slovakia (the decision was made in 1999). Both countries were quite poor at the time and in chaos after the political transformation. The situation is different now, and they would be more ready. I know one thing for sure: Turin 2006 missed that opportunity – suffice it to say that none of the facilities from that era are still used for sports... Isn't that a measure of failure? Even some of the arenas from Athens 2004 are still open for sports.

We're happy with hosting the hockey tournament from time to time. We're a small country, hosting the Olympics might be possible in multiple decades from now.

The problem is the bobsleigh track—it's very expensive. That's why Sweden doesn't want to host it, because even for them, building such a track makes no sense. However, of course, someone like Putin can created the Sochi Olympics, where nothing has been happening for 10 years and where, in general, there was no tradition in winter sports before. Turin, unfortunately, was something similar, only on a smaller scale and at a lower cost. Cortina was different – it could have been done sensibly and thoughtfully, but not with this political class. They are incorrigible – they do nothing and only wake up a year before the Olympics. And the entire political class, from right to left, is tainted by this.

It would make perfect sense for Germany to host the Olympics soon. Their infrastructure in general is pretty good.
