Canada qualifies for the men's medley final. What a lead off by Tierney and a 49.98 for Kharun! Australia and China are out.

52.95 opening leg for Tierney, new NR!

Relay also went a NR with 3:30.86!

Wow and that's without Liendo

Canada Qualifies for the Final in the Women's Medley in sixth overall. We really need a replacement for Macneill though. We are two seconds behind of every other nation in the final for the fly portion.

Oliver Dawson was 2 years old when the NR for the medley relay was set, now he is part of the team that broke it

Correcting this, he was actually 1! :d

I'm guessing Summer will be swimming butterfly. Or if not her, then Harvey on butterfly and Ruck on freestyle.

Do you think the men have a chance at top 5?

After those heats, definitely. Now the question is whether or not they can podium.

Likely Liendo will be on freestyle and Dawson was also around half a second faster on the mixed medley relay so there's room to make up some time.

China bombing in prelims definitely helps. Australia not qualifying isn't surprising. Their backstroke and breaststroke legs are too weak.

Of the teams in the final, we should be comfortably ahead of the Netherlands and Korea. Should be better than GB as well with Tierney's backstroke form.

France will likely bring in Marchand for the breaststroke and switch Grousset to butterfly so I think they'll end up being better than Canada in the finals.

Now for the teams that finished ahead of Canada, I don't see us beating Russia. It actually might be possible to finish ahead of the US given how inconsistent their men have been these championships. They likely used their A team as well in prelims. We were close to Italy but they'll likely bring in Ceccon for the butterfly leg so they look in good shape.

Fingers crossed I guess :fingers:

    • Tentoglou won the men's long jump with 8.22. He only had two valid jumps today.   Another U20NR came in the women's shot put from Maria Rafailidou. She had 16.53 earlier this week and now got 16.59. She's second in the world for U20 this year    So of course Karalis was the big star of our nationals this year, more than Tentoglou, but we also had a lot of teenagers show good signs for the future (Antonatou, Alivizatos, Mitropoulou, Iakovaki, Rafailidou etc).   Antonatou and Alivizatos are both from Kefalonia island. Antonatou's brother is a shot putter who is 19 yo and had a new PB yesterday of 17.92 in the NCAA. I don't remember us ever having any strong athletes from Kefalonia in any sport aside from the late Anna Pollatou who won an Olympic bronze in rhythmic gymnastics. What are they feeding these kids on this island (it only has about 35.000 residents)?! Very impressive.
