I'd really like to understand what's the mentality behind these shameless purchases from Turkey and other neighbouring countries.

Do they feel any pride when they win? Does it bring any profit in terms of 'soft power' to win by doing this when everyone else in the world thinks you're cheating?

Erdogan wants to show that Turkiye is a superpower: e.g. sports.

The fact that they keep needing to do it is your best proof it doesn't work.

Good. International sport should never be about purchasing athletes to represent your nation. Invest in your domestic talent!

It's more a double edged sword for me. I'm happy that Turkey's strategy of naturalizing athletes to win medals isn't working, but at the same time Ofili and the Jamaican field athletes did it because they weren't being treated right by their federations. Now they have to go back to the same federations that fucked them over to compete in LA.

I'd much rather this have happened than it gone through, however :d

Did not spot this earlier, but a good meet at the Addis Ababa Grand Prix, in what looks like a brand-new custom built athletics stadium there.

    • The best team- Hungary – didn't advance and that was at home, because they had one weaker game against Slovakia. Italy had its chance and could have advanced-  a win against France for 3 points was enough for this. France use their chance – it's truly amazing that they can be strong in so many team sports– even hockey, which has never been very popular there. For Italy, this is still the best result in history. Btw, I wonder when Russia will return and how they will resolve this? Will they join directly to the Elite? Looking at other sports, it's probably only a matter of time before that happens and I1m sure, that the primadonnas from Moscow won't be playing in some lower divisions- and neither will their men`s friends.
