Inappropriate dressing distracting teammates; 20-year-old Paraguayan swimmer Luana Alonso kicked out of Olympic Village

This also feels like so much drama om nothing

She competed, announced her retirement from swimming and is sent home for being visible. Oh no.

What I read on the Paraguyan articles found via Spanish wikipedia the problem might have been that she used the olympic village as a sort of tourist accommodation after her competition was over and posted on social media her trips to Disneyland etc.

This is what the Paraguay team chief said: "We are a professional team who comes to compete and not to make tours/walk around"

https://www.abc.com.py/deportes/polideportivo/2024/08/02/camilo-perez-sobre-luana-alonso-somos-un-equipo-profesional-que-busca-competir-y-no-pasear/

I think there might have been another reason: as it is well known the population Latin American countries including Paraguay are not particularly wealthy with a lot of inequality.

Probably it is not a good press if people travel to the Olympics on the state's expense, do not reach an internationally excellent level of performance (if I found it correctly this swimmer finished among the last of the 31 member field of her event) and then acts as a tourist, documenting all that in social media.

Some people might ask the question back home: should we really spend on this?

We are slowly developing a complex about this country, because we are constantly losing to them in sabre too. Sabre has always been Ukrainian, epee for a draw or our slight advantage but a failed in women`s foil, which is already a shocking novelty
