Duncan Scott is reportedly still in heavy training, so puts the performances into some perspective.

we know the large number of swimmers out in Flagstaff Arizona (altitude) have been in intense training before Worlds as well, so I’m not sure how much taper they have had, e.g. Abbie Wood

In a sign of how relaxed the GB squad have been about these championships, I understand that Matthew Richards was still in heavy training at altitude two weeks ago.

Whilst it is disappointing that he didn't make the podium, 47.82 is still half a second quicker than he was swimming at the same time last year.

Apparently almost the entire team is untapered; the only real issue was qualifying the men's 4 x 100, and even there, James Guy didn't go, Dean barely did, and both Scott and Richards were basically in heavy training. Peaty apparently sort of half tapered, and his team are apparently perfectly happy with where he is, much as Max Litchfield's team are. Clearly the USA have taken an even more relaxed route if that's possible, while Chinese in comparison are absolutely on it.

Stephen's gold today was a complete left-fielder, but its interesting her time was more or less the same as last years worlds, when the worlds were the main event of the season. She's clearly capable of more, but she's unlikely to catch Macintosh, lets be honest. The  women's 4 x 200, without Anderson, is seriously impressive , especially Wood.

And despite the lack of taper/seriousness, they've still got their 4x1 quota, a women's 4x2 free silver which is actually impressive, and notably 4 medals. some of us recall a fully tapered GB scrounging about for 1 bronze not so terribly long ago.

Paris will be a whole new level of tough, but quietly I'd say GBR are pretty happy with where they are.

Team Ireland, by contrast, are absolutely ecstatic, notwithstanding the relay disappointment.

Pretty underwhelming 4x200. Looks like it’s all in on Jimmy and Deano being on form in Paris to join Matt and Duncan.

I don't think that 4x200 has the least bearing on Paris, to be honest.

Don't think any of the action we've seen this week will have all that much relevance when it comes to Paris. If the guys aren't hitting the target times when we get to the British Champs in April then may have to reconsider the medal prospects but from what I've seen so far, the majority of the GB swimmers are producing faster times than they were at the same time last year which can only be viewed as a positive sign for the rest of the year.

    • as I said so many times in this forum Rostami is a total jerk. he wants to work alone, doesn't participate in trials etc, just simply go to the main events on his own. of course the weightlifting federation said no   therefore he decided to compete for another NOC. but last thing I heard if our WL federation doesn't let him, he needs to wait 1 year before switching nationality. and our WL federation doesn't grant him that permission. so as things stand he won't be allowed to participate in this event (will be eligible next year)

    • Analysis for the potential medal contenders in the Weightlifting World Championships 2024 in Bahrain   The analysis will be based on the preliminary entry total but doesn’t mean this would be the actual lifting numbers.   Will add also a high-level highlight on Egyptian and GB athletes participating and their opportunities if any.   Men Competitions Men -55 kg 4 players proposed entry total of 270 kg. 1-      Gia Lai the gold medalist of WCH 2023 with 269 kg.  2-      Son Ngo    the silver medalist of WCH 2023 with 261 kg. 3-      Yang Yang – no previous records in IWF website.  4-      Un Pang gold medalist in world cup 2024 (270 kg) & Asian championship 2024 (266 kg)  My guess goes for and the two athletes, but don’t underestimate and potential surprise in snatch or clean and jerk from athlete Natthawat Chomcheun    Men – 61 kg The three medalists in Paris are not participating ( Fabin , Theerapong and Hampton :USA)  3 players has preliminary entry of 300 kg 1-      Myong Pak the junior world record holder and silver medalist in Asian game 2022 (307 kg)  2-      Haixian Wei - no previous records in IWF website, the young lad porn on 2004.  3-      Ricko Saputra the silver medalist in Asian championship 2024 (291 kg)  I’ll go with the same order above, with potential challenges from two athletes Trinh & Nguyen  young athlete Elaraby (porn 2006) is participating with total 280 kg, expecting to finish between 8 th and 12th.   Men -67 kg 5 players are fighting to be on the podium 1-      The highest total entry (325 kg) is by Zheng who has no previous records in IWF website.  2-      Sairamkez , (321 kg entry) the silver medalist in Asian championship 2024 (292 kg) and 12 th in 2023 WCh (280 kg). 3-      RI , (320 kg entry) Asian champion 2024 (317 kg) and silver medalist in Asian games 2022 (321 kg)  4-      Another Pak with same 320 kg entry, has no previous records on IWF website in this weight category.  5-      Genc total 320 kg entry, 4 th in WCH 2022 (322 kg)   Can’t get a definite guess but I think the gold will go to one of the two athletes.    Men -73 kg I don’t believe the entry order would be the final standing, the 5 highest entries are: 1-      Lee (348 kg) his previous records were mainly in 67 kg category  2-      Ri (345 kg), no previous records in this category  3-      Calja (345 kg) silver medalist in WCH 2021 and 5 th in European ch 2024 4-      Bak (345 kg), 7 th in Paris 2024 (334 kg), 5th in World cup 2024 (345 kg) 5-      Ben Hnia (342 kg), 8 th in Paris 2024 (330 kg) and African champion 2024 (320 kg)   I am expecting (if no injuries) Juniansyah (335 kg entry) &   Zhong (340 kg total) could be strong competitors too if they boost their total entries.   Men -81 kg 6 main players are trying to get to the podium: 1-      Churkin (370 kg), no previous records in this category but he is bronze medalist in WCG 2022 in 73 kg category with 343 kg total  2-      Martinez (360 kg), world champion 2023 (356 kg) & European champion 2024 (346 kg)  3-      Chong Ri (360 kg), Asian champion 2024 (369 kg)  4-      Uvarov (360 kg), silver medalist in Asian ch 2024 (343 kg) & bronze in Asian games 2022 (348 kg)  5-      Liu (360 kg), no previous records in this category  6-      Mukhammadkodir (360 kg) bronze medalist in W ch 2023 (352 kg) and silver medalist in Asian games 2022 (351 kg)  Eslam Abuelwafa is participating with total requested entry of (355 kg) but I will be surprised if he finishes 7th.   Men -89 kg 5 players are competing to be medalists: 1-      Nasar (390 kg) the brilliant Olympic chamion in Paris (404 kg) wants to collect his 2 nd gold w ch medal after his gold in 2021 in 81 kg weight category 2-       Ro (385 kg), 4 th in grand prix 2023 (379 kg) 3-      Robu (375 kg), 4 th in Paris Olympics (383 kg) and bronze medalist is European Ch 2024 (378 kg) 4-      Yu (375 kg), 6 th in Paris 2024 (371 kg) 5-      Zafarjonov (375 kg), silver medalist in Asian ch 2024 (362 kg)  Few athletes can change their entry later and can be strong competitors too, such as: Pan (371 kg)  Kurlovich (373 kg)  Karapetyan (370 kg)    Men -96 kg 4 highest entry athletes are challenging each others for medals, they are: 1-      Kianosh Rostami !! I am in doubt and tried to follow the news to get confirmation if Rostami change his nationality from to or it’s just a typo but couldn’t, hope someone can confirm. His entry is 390 kg, the 33 years old Rostami is Olympic champion in 2016 in 85 kg category.  2-      Won (389 kg), Asian champion 2024 (367 kg), world cup champion 2024 (389 kg) and silver in W ch 2023 (384 kg)  3-      Sumpradit (385 kg), bronze medalist in Asian games 2022 (384 kg)  4-      Adiletuly (385 kg), runner up in 2022 Wch (383 kg)  Few other competitors will be hard figures such as the two athletes (Mkrtchyan & Hovhannisyan ) both have entry of 380 kg. Mahmoud Hosny (porn in 2005) has entry of 375 kg. He was the raising star for the Egyptian national team but series of back injuries with wrong and bad recovery affected him so much since his brilliant performance in 2022 Youth W ch in 89 kg category with 343 kg total (28 kg ahead of the runner-up). Also changing the body weight several time in short duration affected his recovery process.   Men -102 kg 3 top athletes with highest total entries are: 1-      Aymen Bacha (401 kg), very high number compared to his previous records. His best was in 2020 Olympics in 109 kg category and was only 388 kg. Aymen is the African champion 2023 in 109 kg category.  2-      Fares Elbakh (400 kg), Tokyo Olympic champion in 96 kg category with 402 kg total but failed to score any snatch lifts in Paris and got eliminated in 102 kg category.  3-      Antropov (400 kg),    6th in 2022 W ch (385 kg)   Yasser Salem has preliminary entry of 385 kg, expected to finish 10 th to 12th. Griffiths has a low entry (353 kg), his best record is 346 kg when  he finished 6th in commonwealth games 2022   Men -109 kg 5 athletes are aiming for the medals: 1-      Nurudinov (410 kg), 2 nd in 2023 W CH (407 kg) and Asian champion 2024 (382 kg) 2-      Dadashbayli (405 kg), European champion 2024 (388 kg), bronze in 2023 Wch (403 kg)  3-      Samarkanov (401 kg), bronze medalist in Asian CH 2023 (390 kg)  4-      Amriddinov (400 kg), runner-up in Asian CH 2024 (381 kg)  5-      Karapetyan (400 kg), no previous records in this category.  Very difficult to see different names on the podium.   Men +109 For the first time since 2014 we will see a new world champion in this weight category other than the all-time legend Lasha Talakhadze   The athletes aiming for the glory are: 1-      Lalayan (460 kg), silver medalist in Paris Olympics (467 kg)  2-      Minasyan (460 kg), bronze medalist in Paris Olympics (461 kg)  3-      Martirosyan (450 kg),   silver medalist in European ch 2024 (437 kg) and 5th in W CH 2023 (450 kg) 4-      Ali Ammar (440 KG), 6 th in Paris Olympics (437 kg) and bronze medalist in Asian Ch 2024 (425 kg) Initial total for other athletes are not higher than 410 kg, which would be difficult to compete with those 4 unless the total entry change dramatically. It could happen from few athletes like: Davoudi (currently 390 kg entry)  Sharifikelarijani (currently 390 kg entry)    Women analysis will follow next week isa.
    • I predict "Not Like Us" is going to be a very popular song over the next four years
    • Exactly, if table tennis had the same rules, a full 2 or so out of 20 medals would be different indeed, massive  (and about 3-4 or so the year before) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2024_European_Table_Tennis_Championships   I kind of feel like in wrestling there is a significantly larger amount of Russians (Dagestani's mostly, I assume) in the top of the European levels than Asian players in table tennis  (especially men's table tennis)
    • Yes, but I think a majority of viewers haven't been there     Not saying it's bad, and in the case of Beijing, most were pretty recognizable as well. It's just that the main thing in the design should always be recognizability, far and away ahead of everything else, and especially some Summer Olympics seem to put that on the backseat in favour of making something 'unique'.
    • Considering the thing that matters for Trump is whether or not you are personally loyal to him, and not whatever you say about anything, who is left to still get some position? Tucker Carlson or something? I mean, if someone who is actively being investigated for underage sexual abuse and drug abuse (until he conveniently resigned so the report wouldn't be published just now) can be picked as AG, anything's possible
    • Nah, cheaper and more practical to move to Antarctica.
