https://www.dif.dk/da/elite/nyheder/viaritzauelite/presse/2019/10/20191008_denfrsteolatleterudtaget

Comment from Maja Jager:

“It was a huge disappointment for me that I did not participate in Rio. But archery is a brutal sport where small circumstances can make a huge difference, ”says Maja Jager and continues:

“I'm really looking forward to the Tokyo Olympics. I clearly remember the great atmosphere there was in the stands in London and it is going to repeat itself in Tokyo because archery is a really big sport there”.

There are 290 days until the Olympic flame is lit at the new Olympic Stadium in Tokyo and the selection of Maja Jager is, according to DIF's Olympic Chief de mission, Søren Simonsen, something very special.

“The selection of the first athlete is a milestone which makes it clear to everyone that the Tokyo Olympics are approaching. I am pleased to welcome Maja to a hopefully strong Danish team. I had the pleasure of watching her win a medal in the team event at the European Games in June and I look forward to following her performance in Tokyo, ”says Søren Simonsen.

In June, Maja Jager secured Danish archery a quota place at the World Championships in the Netherlands for Tokyo. Archery Denmark has appointed Maja Jager to fill the quota place and now she has officially been selected by DIF's board which is the Olympic Committee in Denmark.

    • Canoe Sprint There is a now a cap of 5 athletes per gender in the kayak events (down from 6 in 2024). The World Championships has been replaced by the Olympic Qualification Rankings.   K2 lost 2 boat quotas while K4 has gained 1 boat quota. Quota distribution is quite complicated as it usually is for canoe sprint. They also force nations to compete in a minimum number of events based on the number of athletes qualified; 2 and 3 athletes per boat class must compete in 2 events, 4 must compete in all 3 events and 5 must compete in all 3 events and have two entries in the K1 event.
    • Wrestling will have a completely new format, I do not like the changes. ranking isn't really a good idea in this sport, this will force wrestlers to compete in so many events to collect points. which is not good for their health. specially with the current UWW ranking points distribution system which is plain stupid   they are also gifting 18 quotas to very weak countries by that last qualification event. but I understand their point of view. can't wait to see lots of Russian wrestlers compete for weak countries for that 1 available quota.
    • Canoe Slalom Quotas from men's/women's K1 have been moved to men's/women's KX1. K1 will now have 14 quotas while KX1 will have 10 quotas. C1 remains at 17 quotas. Athletes may participate in other events up to a maximum of 2 athletes per NOC.   The World Championship qualifier has been dropped in favour of the Olympic Qualification Rankings (7 K1, 10 C1, 3 KX1), afterwards you have the Continental Qualifiers (1 per boat) and then a new Global Qualifier (2 per boat).   There were a few changes regarding ways to ensure an athlete can only obtain 1 quota. The biggest being at each stage the boat priority is K1 > KX1 > C1 for the rankings and KX1 > K1 > C1 for the continental/global qualifiers. This basically means if the same athlete qualifiers in multiple boats then the quota will be given to the kayak over canoe.
    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same
