as usual, great performance by Italy...

most of medals, as expected, came from Artistic Skating, but also many other sports (some of them basically unknown to the 99.99% of the Italian people ) gave their contribution...

Speedskating started with an awful campaign on the Track, but then they had some good results on the Road, unfortunately only among the women (Lollobrigida among the senior ranks and Valanzano + Varani among the junior ranks)...

still, the overall results in this discipline are not good enough...not even close to where we once were...

the black sheep is once again men's Rink Hockey...

they started with a lot of expectations, then they first blew the chance to get a relatively easy quarterfinal match losing against France (who are definitely not on the same level of Italy, but we've been capable of make them look good as Portugal) and finally, after playing a great match against the eventual champions Portugal, we threw that very much possible victory away 3 times (we were 2-0 ahead in the first half of regulation, 4-2 ahead in the second half of regulation -and the 4-4 tying goal came in the last minute of the game- and also 5-4 ahead at the overtime's halftime...moreover, during the game we wasted good 4 "direct shots" and 3 powerplays), before being destroyed at the penalty shootout...

more in general, as expected, the Colombians were simply amazing in Speedskating...thanks to that sport (and only that one), they almost won the medal table (they ended up just behind Italy, with the same amount of Gold Medals, 21 each...Italy being ahead only because they won 2 more Silver Medals than the South Americans)...

Germany also were so high in the Medal Table because they're totally dominant in one sport (Alpine Skating), as it happened for many other Nations, generally having only one or max two very strong disciplines...

finally, we must say that these games were very successful in terms of perticipation and the Skating disciplines are really widely spread around the world, since we have 34 Nations coming from all the 5 Continents (6, if you want to keep the artificial separation of North and South America) winning at least a medal (21 winning at least 1 Gold)...

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
    • The worst editions in XXI century for us were Vancouver: 5 medals (only 1 gold for Razzoli's on the penultimate day) and Sochi: 8 medals (but no gold). Turin was already a prelude to this bad period, although the number of gold medals was ok. Overall we won fewer medals at home than in 2002 and this was probably the only case in the 21st century when the host country won fewer medals at home than 4 years earlier, either in summer or winter. In general the years 2008-2016 were very bad in our sport, both in summer and winter. Only 2018 in Korea was a slight rebuild + 2 fantastic summer editions in Tokyo and Paris. in Beijing 2022 we won a lot of medals - 17 but only 2 gold (If it weren't for Gogga's injury, I think it would have been 4 gold).
    • Totallympics had  users at one point, but I haven't seen any hanging around in a while.
    • In terms of total medals, yes. In terms of golds, I’d be fine with anywhere from 6-8.   @intoronto you don’t think we’ll do better or at least the same? Bit surprising.
    • Tadeucci was very good and took bronze
