For example, Grycz has a discard of 33, so with a tenth place at the WCh, he will overtake Cicinelli

Today, how many of our athletes do you see in Paris?

I'm not Giucas Casella. I think near 384 of Tokyo. Probably with men's basket it will be more. I think that Italy will be not less than 370. In my opinion it's more important the number of medal event. For example if Gambaro qualifies we have 3 more medal event with 1 quota. Basket is 1 medal event with 12 quotas.

They get 390 in the projection, but they probably also count men's basketball? In my opinion, we have no chance against Lithuania, especially since there is a whole plague of injuries: Fontecchio, Procida, a question mark with Gallinari, etc.

I think they added about other 40 people in athletics... for the other 50, I don't know. For me the final number is not important.

In the case of Italy, quantity often turns into quality, e.g. the editions at the turn of the century, or recently in Tokyo, were great for us, while, for example, London 2012 was poor both in terms of quantity (284) and quality (few medals).

there is sport and sport... Take 4th spot in modern pentathlon, or 1 or 2 quotas in table tennis, or 1 quota in break dance... or something like this, it's important for final number, but non for medal chance. But this is only my opinion

    • Of the top teams the world with traditions, only Portugal didn`t play in 3 World Cups in a row: 1986-2002 (1990, 1994 and 1998), but then fewer teams played in the World Cup than now. I don't really remember what caused the crisis in Portuguese football in the 1990s or how it was done with this later? Perhaps we should follow their example?
    • Well... If not qualifying for the World Cup for the third consecutive time isn't enough to bring about change in Italy, I can't imagine what will be.
    • Gravina is simply stupid and probably has some kind of hold over other important key figures in Italian football, since he was elected in 2024 with a majority of over 90% of the votes... I have a hard time imagining it any other way. Compared to him, even Carraro, Berlusconi and Moggi seem like nice and kind gentlemens   Some people believe that Calciopoli in 2006 began the decline of Italian football and that may be true. It only got worse from there, not counting a single accidental Euro 2021 win- something similar to Greece in 2004. In 2009 Roberto Baggio prepared a 900-page report on necessary reforms in Italian football, but the then-FIGC board tossed it into the trash bin. Now we see the consequences...
    • I thought our former football President was greedy, selfish, power hungry and delusional, but apparently he has an equal counterpart in Gravina. Some people just lack common decency.
    • Well, it's possible that Italians may be more bitter towards short track officials after the robbery they perpetrated against Sighel at the Olympics and therefore more willing to comment and criticize them, but it doesn't make the decision any less ridiculous.   Also, the fact we are Italians, and therefore used to the low standards of football refereeing, makes us especially qualified and trained to identify biased/crooked/incompetent judging
    • I think it was never in the history of our sport has there been anyone as brazen and stupid as Gravina. Before presidents would resign, or at least hide for a while, rather than go into a full-blow scandalous attitude with full larrogance and pride. I hope this idiot gets fired anyway, even if he doesn't resign.

    • Joking aside, apparently discussions are ongoing with ECB and CI for some kind of euro 6 Nations in T20 cricket - apparently the idea at this point is automatic qualification for England, Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands, while the final two places will be decided at a Tri-series in which Italy will be the only automatic entry, more or less guarnteeing Italy entry - from there, its two parallel Tri series with a finals day. Apparently inspired by the rise of Nepal and the Asia Cup, English cricket think they can make a short sharp tournament of this sort financially viable, as it would involve only three T20 games over 5 days in the early season, and they could rest the biggest players while getting some goodwill from ICC - previously they had not shown interest in a comp the Scots and Dutch have always wanted.
