Is there any news on whether or not China will allow the thousands of athletes to use their regular social media in the Olympic village or something? On one hand I can imagine there being some relaxation of rules for such a huge and incredibly international event, on the other hand it's China, so it's hard to get a sense on it...

It's kind of tough, nobody missed out, they took everyone who qualified (by their standards), they just didn't take all the discretionary spots they had available. That being said, Blocksidge had the World aquatics A time so she could have swim given there are no other distance swimmers (of either gender), in the squad. I would have taken Hanlon so that every stroke 100 has two swimmers per gender. She has the A time in the 200 so she could swim that too. -
