As a person who has experiences quite enough in journalist world ..... Just wonder why to release such a article. I know there might be some ppl doubting this issue in the world but releasing such kind of article is kinda what they want .... https://www.chinadaily.com.cn/a/202201/29/WS61f52f96a310cdd39bc842e8.html
As for me, we can already see some athletes, personnel and other people who tested positive after arriving to Beijing but there has been silence about Chinese athletes so far ..... I don't want to offend of our Chinese members here in totallympics or anywhere else ..... But what if a Chinese athlete or team member gets covid positive? Will it be released into the world of media or social media? Can everybody be sure that Chinese authorities will not just try to cover the positive covid test result and let the athlete compete because he/she is a medal contestant? Me, after living in China for almost 7 years, I have always been hoping for the good changes. And as I see some pre-Olympic feedback from athletes and others, it looks good. I just truly hope everything will stay FAIR PLAY from the Chinese side. Because I honestly wish them to organize successful Olympics in fair play spirit without any cover ups..... Nobody is interested in second Sochi and their "sample swapping game" .... So I truly hope for their fair play Games by all means. Because this is the only way, how they can earn more respect from the entire world.
鍔犳补路 !!
Honestly surprised to read this article on China Daily ...... About our tiny country when you read nearly nothing about other countries regarding the Olympics .... Anyways, thumbs up :-)

This list is not officially confirmed yet as we haven't had official press conference about the final list of the team members. But so far, these are the people who should be on the list. Yet, there might be some changes. In Skicross, Diana Cholensk谩 looks like coming with ACL injury and not sure whether she will go. Currently, men's ice hockey team has 6 covid cases + they need to call in one more player. There will be probably more changes than the coaches wanted...... Final list should come in few days ....

Yeah, feel very sorry for Simander. She deserved to be at the Games.
ExpandFIS quotas confirmation and reallocation process is supposedly finished unless some NOC re-decline the quotas at last minute!
Well, don't forget about in what age the Olympics are held. Not only injuries, but covid may somehow have a strong word either before or during the Olympics. I suppose some countries will travel with some extra who are "just below the qualification line" in case someone is out due to covid or restrictions related to that, so IOC can do a quick reallocation to athletes who are ready at the venue. I remember there were some situation like this in Tokyo. If I am correct something something about quadruple sculls in rowing?
It is amazing how we as public can check so many Olympic updates and know info earlier then some media. Speaking of quota, reallocations, etc. And not only winter games but also summer games, e.g. Judo, Badminton, Athletics, etc But I remember couple Olympic back it wasn't like that. Does anybody remember when FIS or other organizations started showing all these Olympic quota and allocation information to public? For me, big thumb up, hope all organisations of Olympic sports will be doing this in the future ...
ExpandI can't say too much right now, but there are things happening through various businesses and organizations to get people in the stands, including non-Chinese spectators. You have to be in Beijing, and not leave Beijing, as well as other restrictions, but there is no shortage of interest. Things can change, especially with this new case in the city, but having a diverse audience seems to be one of their priorities.
So ppl from other provinces will most likely not be allowed in the stands? Even though I obtained the tickets somehow, I would not be allowed to enter Beijing or maybe later the stadium?
Edited by Jan LinhaTypo
ExpandIt's a good idea but I don't think authority have guts to allow the kids to be spectators. Even schools have interest but most kids' parents will refuse. I guess you must know what general Chinese parents feel about the Olympic venues full of people.
On the other hand, I didn't totally give up any chance. I ask my friends working in government to ask if it's allowed bring their friends to the Olympics as so many invitees prefer to refuse the invitation.
Yeah, I totally get it. You know, but if you look at Tokyo Games, mostly spectators were the team members who weren't competing that day ...... If Beijing wants to extend this, they need to consider more possibilities ...... If not school, then it should be some partners and sponsors and their family members but it still not as high amount as they might need. I am afraid the athmosphere will be dead again .....
ExpandWith the first case of Omicron variant reported in Beijing, it's the most appropriate timing to finally announce that Olympic tickets only for invited personnels, mainly government and state-owned enterprise staff, and not for public. It's also reported that some Beijing staff got invitation but with low interest to accept and also committee promised that every match will be with spectators if it's designed so.
Well, as I can see that the personnel and some governmental official are refusing .... If I were in the skin of BOCOG, in order to bring the spectators in a "safe matter" and in order to develop the interest in winter sports in the country, I would give the tix to schools. Kids would have memory for life and the places would not be empty...... Just one concern about it is that it will be the winter vacation and maybe to follow the covid protocol while kids being out of the school might be a little difficult ....

"Pay for its mistakes" seems like a thread to me in the way, that some US athletes might be somehow "found covid positive" and not allowed to compete. Would not surprise me at all ......
Well, I am sure of one thing. Some steps China does ... Let's say does not really help the country image but they unfortunately realize after doing it. A k.a. Peng Shuai case ...... Countries will 99% sure not boycott Olympics in a sports way but they may do the political boycott. Would be difficult to restore the good relations with China but it's every country's decision ... Anyways, what I am expecting is an individual athlete boycott. Some athletes have decided not to take the vaccine, some don't agree with Games in China or the political system/relations. So I expect some already qualified athletes may withdraw/boycott the Games.

ExpandLuge World Cup in Beijing became the first WOG test event with spectators. Last night's match invited 300 Yanqing (Beijing suburb) local spectators. Though still no tickets publicly available, hopefully it's one more step closer for me to get ticket during WOG.
I hope to be able to obtain some WOG tickets despite not living in Beijing.
Let's screw all the political involvement and be happy cause the Games are coming. I have never cared much about politics, I don't know much about politics and I am a happy person ........ We can just wish Peng Shuai all the best, hopefully she returns back in one piece and let's focus on the thing that connects us all - the Olympic religion. I cannot wait any longer for the Games to start and see all the competition either on TV or at the venue
Still trying to find my way to Beijing :-)
ExpandYou don't need any followers or something to simply be able to stay in touch with the people back home
![]()
True, no doubt about that ..... But what Olympian wouldn't like to post some moments from the Olympics on his/her social media account in the real time? Most of them do it even though they cannot "promote" any companies they have contracts with ..... I am sure most of the athletes will use VPN or Olympic village will be "foreign internet friendly" :-)
ExpandIt's not really news, but I had no idea where else to ask it, so here we go. Is there any news on whether or not China will allow the thousands of athletes to use their regular social media in the Olympic village or something? On one hand I can imagine there being some relaxation of rules for such a huge and incredibly international event, on the other hand it's China, so it's hard to get a sense on it...
@Vic Liu Have you heard anything about this by any chance?
In my case it's of course mostly about how to stay in touch with @brunamoura if she qualifies, since she'll be there for three weeks or so in that case. We generally use WhatsApp, but yeah....
I remember during World Athletic Champs in Beijing, the organizers allowed athletes to have access anywhere online but only in the hotel where they lived. So they didn't have to bother use their own VPN. But as for the Olympics, maybe BOCOG is planning something similar. If not, VPN is not that expensive so every athlete can afford it.
ExpandI suggest We chat... use that temporarily. I used that while in Asia

ExpandRumors saying there exactly 4 (four) Chinese born players in the team, 17 north-american with Chinese heritage and 3 players without any connection to China other than their club team (Kunlun Red Star) which will be 99% of the
team roster in Beijing.
IIHF already changed its naturalization policy, precisely because of this case, now you do not have to play 2 years in the country to being eligible, which means Jeremy Smith is already assured to be the Goaltender of China at the Olympics.
Here is the current Kunlun roster (you can imagine 95% of this team will play for China at the Olympics) https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/leagues/seasons/teams/0075992022.html
Thanks a lot. But still, I watch ice hockey quite a lot and these fellas are still sort of no names for me and money other hockey fans. To be honest, as for national pride, I would still stick with only Chinese players. Just my personal opinion....... What do you think? @Vic Liu
I am still waiting to see China's roster. Some people say they may have many western naturalized players, some ppl say that still citizenship is hard to gain and China is a proud country to naturalize foreign players. Well, let's see. Anybody has any info about their most recent roster?
ExpandFor FIS Sport : Winter Olympic Games Quota is updated every monday, the final quota/WRL for 2022 OWG is published on 17 January 2022
Thanks, very helpful document. I am happy FIS has released it that early as the qualification period started by the beginning of July 2021.
ExpandI live in Beijing and everything is pretty much normal here now, and has been for months (there was a little scare in February, something like 6 confirmed cases). I can see them barring international visitors, but there's no reason to postpone if Tokyo is going forward and they're in a much tougher spot. China has strict quarantine rules (3 weeks mandatory government observed quarantine) but they want to reopen borders with some countries. The issue right now is other countries accepting the Chinese vaccinations as legit. Postponing the Olympics would pretty much be admitting that the Chinese one is not legit. I'd be really surprised if they postponed it.
Cool. That's some relieving news ..... Probably OC is waiting for more further steps and important decisions after they see the result from Tokyo ...

Sure, I am aware of that. I live in this system since the covid outbreak has started. But I am talking about it especially from the perspective of organizers and government...... I know their athletes take the virus very seriously, I can see that on foreign athletes as well. Yet, they test positive. And the chinese athletes also travel the world and participate the world cups ....... Well, as I said. I have faith and believe that the Games will be really great and fair by all means馃檪馃挭
