Sì ma non capisco in che senso questo li renda "la nostra maledizione negli ultimi anni". Nelle ultime edizioni dei Giochi invernali sono sempre stati nettamente avanti nel medagliere e a Parigi hanno vinto 15 ori quindi non siamo andati neanche vicini a batterli. L'unico caso in cui siamo stati pressoché appaiati è stato a Tokyo, quando abbiamo finito con 10 ori a testa ma loro avevano due argenti in più. Però il fatto di finire dietro all'Olanda in quella occasione ha significato chiudere decimi anziché noni, che mi sembra uno dei più grandi 'sticazzi' della storia dell'olimpismo italiano.

Condivido, anzi, a me ne è sempre fregato zero e negli anni ho discusso con varie persone che si fustigavano per questa storia del piazzamento nel medagliere quando era dovuto solo a una quota di ori relativamente bassa. Però finire quarti perché nella mass hanno pensato di suicidarsi tutti facendo arrivare la fuga bidone più telefonata di sempre è veramente assurdo. Che poi, più che per il medagliere, mi girano a elica perché Giovannini avrebbe vinto l'oro, e si era visto già dalla semifinale che aveva una gamba da far paura.

The decisive race was the men's mass start, because it was the one the Netherlands could lose (actually, I did not expect them to win at all). They are not losing the women's race.

That's true for individuals, but just like in cycling, all it takes is a few athletes taking turns. Basically, half the pack threw away a chance at a medal to avoid doing a grand total of two turns.

Deromedis winning was far from certain, but surely a possibility. Tomasoni on the podium is something I wouldn't have guessed in a trillion years. This is a sport that benefits from longer distances (which is true for other sports as well in my opinion, although TV networks seem to push for shorter formats). Longer ski mountaineering competitions also allow for incredible landscapes and can appeal to people who may not necessarily be obsessed with the result.

Gli ultimi giorni non hanno salvato Parigi perché Parigi rimane una spedizione molto al di sotto delle sue possibilità. Abbiamo vinto lo stesso numero di medaglie di Tokyo, ma senza i russi e con una squadra più forte. Soltanto i propagandisti hanno provato a vendere i risultati come eccellenti, purtroppo trovando riscontro tra la folla che non aveva la benché minima idea di quanto fosse alto il potenziale della squadra, semplicemente perché segue due sport a stare larghi. Questa spedizione rimarrebbe migliore di quella di Parigi anche se domani Deromedis uscisse in qualificazione, Giovannini e Lollobrigida rinunciassero alle mass start per andare a fare un picnic all'Idroscalo e Vittozzi e Wierer usassero le carabine per cacciare caprioli. È vero che a un certo punto c'era anche la possibilità di arrivare a 30 e girano i coglioni a elica anche a me per oggi, però il paragone con Parigi non regge.

I don't give a flying fuck about the medal table. What difference does it make if, say, the men's relay was Netherlands-South Korea-Italy instead of South Korea-Netherlands-Italy? I agree the short track team's performance was disappointing overall.

Giornata pessima, per quanto mi riguarda resa particolarmente amara dall'episodio di Giacomel. Posso accettare le sconfitte e gli errori, ma un fatto del genere mi lascia addosso un senso di incompiutezza e di ingiustizia. Tra l'altro la prova di Lollobrigida sui 1.500 mi fa guardare con ben poco ottimismo anche alla mass di domani.
