  4. @hckošice and I just got another great selection of olympic books from martinus.sk !!! first of all great Czech album of Tokyo 2020, they have published this one very quickly! I have only bought some German Tokyo books on amazon quicker than this one https://www.martinus.sk/?uItem=1083249 and I got very similar ones from Rio and Pyeongchang as well, nice collection this is these two Slovak books are very good as well https://www.martinus.sk/?uItem=305517 https://www.martinus.sk/?uItem=166718 Czech books are more about great photos, less to read. Nice to see that Slovak books have more text, hope to read it all (I'm still improving my Czech and Slovak languages hah) and this one is sth special https://www.martinus.sk/?uItem=616269 so thanks for the past advice about martinus.sk!
  5. It is not that simple. You can't just ignore them, cause their comments are quoted by other users (why they quote them and answer to their posts is uknown to me). That's why I almost haven't used totallympics at all during the games, trying not to spoil my olympic mood. And @Sindo wrote here few days ago that he's not going to do anything with this really, so I'm rather pessimistic about future of totallympics board.
  6. Oh, thank you, I didn't know that. Do you have link for the new one?

  12. Great article in NYT on Wilfredo Leon It was published on August 2nd. There was no happy ending for our team in Tokyo but this thing is really worth reading https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/02/sports/olympics/wilfredo-leon-volleyball.html

It will have some changes for sure, new sports and events have to be added, but I think in general it will look sth like this. So we can make early plans which days to choose.

  15. Aleksandra Mirosław in sports climbing - women's speed event. In Tokyo she was 4th in combined event but she had WR in speed, wasn't able to perform well in boulder and lead though. In Paris speed will be a seperate event so she is the biggest favourite for gold now. But a lot of can happen during these 3 years obviously and she will have strong opponents within Polish team as well. Polish girls are very strong in this event.
  16. 1. Rate the performance on a scale of 1-10 7-8/10. Poland had got 10-11 medals in previous XXI century games, I expected that we will have slightly more here (12 maybe) and we finally got 14 so it's even more than I thought. 4 golds are also really ok. Couldn't expect more. All of them in athletics. It started very slowly for us. After first week (day 7) we had only 1 silver medal in rowing. But then athletics came and on day 8 we got this surprising gold in 4x400 mixed relay, a brand new and not very prestigious event, I know, but looks like our coaches and athletes concentrated on it and other teams didn't, and you just have to take your chances! Firstly I haven't admired this medal so much (as this event is sth new) but when I saw the results of our W 4x400 (silver) and M 4x400 (5th) I began to cherish it, our 400m runners were really strong here. And it also helped when I saw how happy Team GB was with their gold in mixed relay in swimming. The mood exploded on days 11 and 12 when we got 4 medals on each days and our athletics team really delivered. Tokyo Games which were so far quite a disaster for us, suddenly became a success. And what fun it is that we got so many medals not in one or two not very popular sports but - in ATHLETICS!!!, which is the core of the games. 2. What were the surprises and heartbreaks ? The biggest surprise was our athletics team. I mean, we knew that our biggest medal chances were here, but still... Nobody expected 9 medals, including 4 golds. And the biggest surprise of the whole athletics team was Dawid Tomala in 50km race walk, literally nobody thought he would win this thing, I think, besides himself. The biggest fun for me was Patryk Dobek bronze in 800m, this is a really classic individual running event, and coming to Tokyo we didn't have a running medal since 1980, so that was a lot of fun - and my sister was an 800m runner, so me and my family really cares about this event. Funny thing is that Dobek switched from 400m hurdles into 800m just this year and it turned out to be a very smart decision - looks like he may achieve much more in 800 than he did in 400h and his coach told him after the amazing results in 400h final: "You see? I told you! You just escaped from a guilotine :-))". That's good that we found our "national specialty" in hammer throw but this running medal means a lot more to me, even if it's just bronze. The biggest heartbreak was obviously our men's volleyball team. We lost in QFs in 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 olympics. We won world championships twice lately and I really hoped that with Wilfredo Leon in our team we will pass this QFs barrier. But no, it happened again, in a very disappointing circumstances. So we need to wait for another 4 years... But at least we lost to the eventual olympic champions France and the whole volleyball tournament was very entertaining, so we will live with that. And another heartbrake was our "swimming afair" which happened even before the games with some athletes who have to come back home from Japan and not participate because our swimming federation couldn't handle the entry system in their sport... 3. Was your country's goal achieved? I think it was achieved in total medals count (everybody wanted more than 10-11) and in gold medals count. Athletics achieved much more than expected. But all the other sports underperformed really (besides canoe sprint - 2 medals in W K2 500m and W K4 500m are really good, and maybe rowing - 1 medal in W quadruple sculls, I thought we may get another one in men's events). The bitter-sweet problem here is this dissonance. We are so happy about our athletics team but we are very worried about all the other sports. 9 medals in athletics (4 golds) and 5 medals in other sports (no gold). I wonder what can be done to change it. 4. Which are the sports that will be invested more in future? It is really hard to say. Our economic situation in the coming years is really uncertain, I really don't ecpect anything good. But for now I don't think there is a problem with investing not enough in professional olympic sports. The biggest problem how to spend the money correctly. When athletics performed so well, I think they will get more money - the same happened with ski jumping before. So there is a chance they will have more medals in future, although repeating Tokyo achievements will be extremely difficult. I think that volleyball is always popular here, so despite they lost in Tokyo, there still will be money and a lot of interest for them. I would like to see more investments in handball - a rapid decline of our men's team during last 5 years - from 4th place in Rio to getting out in a very early phase of qualification for Tokyo, is the biggest concern for me during this olympiad. And I want to see some changes and investments in our swimming federation. This Tokyo "entry system disaster" should really show to everyone how pathetic this federation is and I hope new people show up and change it for better. I would love to see our swimmers being more competitive but with 4 individual finals in Tokyo (W 50 free, M 200 back, M 200 fly, M 100 fly) I can't really complain. Anyway, those were really good olympics and I enjoyed them very much. I was afraid how it's gonna be because of the pandemics and the lack of spectators, but it turned out to be very entertaining. And EurosportPlayer was a great thing, I watched everything I wanted, sometimes 2 or 3 things simultanously, that was really great time. Waiting for Beijing and Paris now.
  17. You are absolutely right. That is another thing I will have to be very careful about. But I don't have any high expectations here, anything with clean bed and clean bathroom is fine for me. But getting good tickets will be the hardest part for sure. Good tickets meaning: athletics (800m or high jump finals would be the best for me), swimming, artistic gymnastics, men's volleyball, men's handball... Going for outdoor sports like rowing, canoe sprint, equestrian or MTB cycling should be easier...
  18. Another "test event" for me would be going to Athletics World Championships in Budapest, August 2023. Seriously thinking about it. Different city obviously but this one I know well, been there few times before, great chance to see how it is to enjoy such a big event on spot. I really liked attending F1 racing at Hungaroring in the past, so I'm quite certain these championships will be very nice event as well.
  19. Yes, I know, that is a plan. Maybe not this winter yet, but for sure I'd like to go to Paris before 2024, never been there before, so this 2022 or 2023 trip would be my "test event".
  20. Yes, getting tickets for the events which are the most interesting for me will be the hardest part. I remember how it was with UEFA EURO 2012 here in Poland. That was tough but after some ups and downs we even managed to get tickets for a semifinal in Warsaw. vs MARIO BALOTELLI destroyed the German team there! That was fun.
  21. @hckošice amazing job!!! thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
  22. I am planning a trip to Paris 2024 olympics. Paris will be the best chance for me to enjoy it on the scene. The one and only summer olympics in Europe in near future, so it's really best chance by far. I start the topic now, but obviously it will be more active in the coming months or even years. However, I'm always interested in your comments, I know some of you have been to the olympics before, so I'm curious how to organize such a trip, how to enjoy it the best possible way. Hopefully covid pandemics will be over then (I'm not so sure about it though, sadly) and the spectators will be allowed. The biggest problem will be - how to get tickets for some "golden circle" events? Anyway, Paris 2024 - here we go!
