  1. Although BMX is such an easy sport for things to go wrong, one would have to be extremely dominant to be considered a safe medal, I'd say... And personally I really can't see the Belgians as safe medals (gold even!) in the road cycling Sure, they both have an excellent chance, but in the road race there's at least 20 riders who have an excellent chance, including some who are usually better climbers than Evenepoel and Van Aert - even though they might hold on of course, they are definitely among the 20+ riders with a good gold medal chance. As for the ITT, they both have a chance as well, but the likes of Pogacar, Roglic (if recovered), Cavagna, Küng and so on are equally as dangerous, and that's not even counting on Ganna yet, who we can assume will be in top shape.
  2. Pogacar after today's stage in the interview: "Why should I be worried?" He's right of course, it's a bit odd the interviewer somehow tried to seriously let Pogacar say anything could happen or something
  3. One of the nicest literal giants one can imagine has passed away, rest in peace Viking
  4. It would be more like Zambia not being good enough, but getting a ton of help from other countries (for something unrelated), and then doubting whether they should enter because it'd be like presenting the tons of help from others as their own quality But alright, I got my answer already
  5. 1. Weightlifting, men's +109kg - Lasha Talakhadze (GEO) 2. Swimming, 1500m freestyle women - Katie Ledecky (USA) 3. Cycling, women's time trial - Chloe Dygert (USA) 4. Sport climbing, women's combined - Janja Garnbret (SLO) 5. Judo, men's 73kg - Shohei Ono (JPN) Dygert depends a little on how well she's recovered, but since she won the US nationals I'm assuming she's fine and then it's a matter of good luck to anyone in trying to beat her Followed an earlier example to leave out non-individual events, because this sounded more fun
  6. Nothing is ever safe, but I'd go for this: 1. Women's road race --> Basically all four women have an excellent chance to win the gold. I hope it won't happen, but even a double or triple medal win is not unrealistic (although of course it's the road race, a ton can happen) 2. Women's time trial --> Basically the same sort of thing, although with Van der Breggen and Van Vleuten there's only two and there's always Dygert. I hope Dygert is all recovered and fit, in which case she's the clear favourite (but still a Dutch medal should be fairly safe). 3. Women's 1500/5000/10.000m (whichever Hassan runs) --> She's a gold medal threat in whichever event she chooses to run, and a nearly safe medal bet as well. Gold is a different thing of course, but it's hard to imagine three women beating her. Bonus: Men's mountainbike --> A pretty open field, but a 'normal' Van der Poel really should be a nearly safe medal threat. Forgot women's field hockey, that should be a fairly safe medal as well. Same for certain track cycling events, but there we'll have to wait and see which super round wheels the British will show up with
  7. Very curious to see how this is going to go. According to manager Erzen, they've taken training data and such. It was only a matter of time until at least some suspicion would come to some sort of action, now let's see if something will come out of this.
  8. Oh damn, I don't think anyone on this forum can challenge running a 400m under 49 seconds
  9. I think you understood it wrong (or I wrote it wrong), a lot of the knowledge is not mine (but coming from people I've been asking for help while making my Olympic medal table), hence my question I mean, I know nothing about (for example) wrestling or slalom canoeing, but I get very excellent help in those. That knowledge is not mine and is also not at all meant for any contest, so it'd be a bit unfair to pretend it is. That's all I meant with it, nothing smug at all (if anything, all the previous contests have shown I'm not exactly the favourite to win any of these contests anyway ). If it came across wrong, sorry and never mind then, I didn't mean anything wrong or smug or something with it.
  10. Police is finding this year's Bahrain Bonus a tad suspicious, it seems. Police raid at their hotel. https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/police-raid-bahrain-victorious-hotel-at-tour-de-france/
  11. Team and duet are that similar in terms of results? Thanks, I know who to look for then (you know, limited time during the Olympic days, so I'll mostly just watch these few countries then)
  12. I'm in need of a bit of ethical help: as several users definitely know, like five years ago I've beek asking for quite a lot of help in making an Olympic medal table. Lists of who has which chances in which events, and so on, since we've got quite a lot of specialists on here. That help, like five years ago, is immensely appreciated. It might however give me an unfair advantage in the prediction contests, something I'm not a fan of (the advantage, that is) and in no way do I want anyone to think I'm trying to cheat the contests. On the other hand, Wumo is putting in a ton of also much appreciated work for all those contests, and it feels a bit unfair to him if I were to ignore the contests. I don't want to be unfair to him, and I don't want to be unfair to the other participants in the contests. Any suggestions as to what to do? For now I'm mostly leaning towards not participating in the contests (at least not those in which sports I received help for are involved, something like athletics I do by myself and so that's perfectly fine).
  13. I keep the sound on because then I know when I have to get back from taking something to drink, some snacks and such
  14. These things are going to be so heartbreaking For everyone of course, but especially athletes whose main goal is not so much to win a medal, but to participate and show what they can do...
  15. Oaths are usually things that go in on one side and leave on the other side immediately anyway, mute or not Often it's all kinds of musical and cultural stuff and then all of a sudden apparently the oaths are done and 'oh, that was it'. #TeamParadeOfNations
  16. Am I correct in assuming Russia is the overwhelming favourite in the team and duet events, with China as sort of remote team challenger and Spain, Ukraine and Japan as potential outsiders/main teams for bronze (basically in both team and duet)? Judging by previous results, it doesn't seem like behind them there is any other nation with a somewhat possible gold medal chance, and only a low number with a (small) medal chance.
  17. Oh, that's why the guy who always writes huge daily previews for every GC stage on a Dutch forum today posted these in his preview: 'Ergens' is Dutch for 'somewhere', but I thought it was the name of some French town or something until I saw here that it starts in godawful Pau Excellent Paint job
  18. So yesterday they finished in Saint-Gaudens...then they moved 75km north for today's start....which starts with going back all the way to Saint-Gaudens resulting in a roughly 100km 'flat' part before the climbing starts Oh ASO, why this nonsense?
  19. I was thinking about my personal hero Dagur Sigurdsson (who led Füchse Berlin to an absolutely epic Champions League win over Ademar Leon, arguably the best sports moment I've ever witnessed live, as in at the location/stadium , incredible comeback with insanely attacking tactics), but apparently he's coaching the Japanese men for a few years already, including at the upcoming Olympics, cool! Well then...I'm afraid I have a job already, sorry
