  1. Damn it, just shaved, now I can't go for the Tamberi look again for a few days
  2. Only difference I've seen so far between ESP and Discovery+ (the latter based on a screenshot from someone, I don't have a subscription to that one) seems to be the way the streams are organized. In Discovery+ they're all neatly named including the name of the sport and such, whereas in the ESP, like annoyingly is so often the case with multi sports events, many of the streams lack the name of the sport. This seems only a matter of details, but when the sport name isn't mentioned, it's significantly harder to search for a stream you want to (re)watch.
  3. The wonderful Turbodrom seems to have somewhat survived, but yeah...that thing is gonna have to be leveled to be rebuilt
  4. Not sure in which FIS thread it fits best, but I had completely overlooked the death of Gian Franco Kasper earlier this week, 20+ year FIS president https://www.fis-ski.com/en/international-ski-federation/news-multimedia/news/tributes-honor-gian-franco-kasper
  5. Van Aert takes the win in Paris and wins a mountain stage, time trial and mass sprint in the same Tour, wow. For context, the only other two riders to do so were Bernard Hinault and Eddy Merckx, both once in the 70's. No record for Cavendish, sort of a cruel punishment for the team's arrogance: letting the group go Friday so Cavendish could take the record on the Champs-Élysées instead of some town somewhere in whoknowswhere.
  6. It's the way he won. Every single thing in this case should at the very least make him react in some way humble. Literally everything worked in his favour. And still not a single bit of acceptance that he may have actually made a mistake in that crash. Which is worse than the actual mistake itself, because mistakes happen and everyone makes them, that's fine. I know we're used to Hamilton never reacting much differently than "oh my god this was the hardest race I've ever done", but come on.
  7. Haha, Hamilton with the most exaggerated reaction I've ever seen from any race winner in F1 (and considering how many he has won, that says a lot) Took out the only one who is faster, needed his teammate to let him by and then won against a semi-crippled Ferrari, followed by post race reactions as if he has just shown the world's greatest race in history
  8. Of all odd medal winners I've seen, the cake might be taken by this one I noticed when going to the modern pentathlon Wiki page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modern_pentathlon_at_the_2020_Summer_Olympics
  9. Seems a bit of social media exaggeration, didn't they announce these cardboard beds already in 2019 or so? I know I've seen them pass along quite long ago, just not sure how long
  10. The Belgian version of this program actually had competitive meditation (sort of) this season and it was rather exciting!

  12. I'm seeing all kinds of softball and football matches and rowing prelims and such scheduled for next week in the Eurosport Player
  13. Yeah, Woods was basically the shimmering light that avoided a total darkness there All Froome did was drop like a brick as soon as the road went up by more than 2%. Several millions well spent.
  14. Defending Michael Woods' 27th place in the GC from Ion Izagirre who's in the lead group and might overtake him? It's either that or going on a useless chase for a 6th place for Greipel But since it's too late to actually catch the group and so Greipel's 6th place isn't happening, maybe it's a punishment for what has been - let's be fair - a godawful Tour by them.
  15. "Yes, I like it. It fits nicely like this!" I find it so.....'different' than I actually like it You know, sort of.
  16. It's of course not likely that Slovakia being Slovakia has any effect on the whole thing, but damn that sucks So typical for a sports federation to fuck things up like this. I know it's always possible perhaps a national federation did actually misread something, but way more likely ISSF just screwed up and the athletes are the victims. At least now I have a team to cheer for in the mixed event, go Slovakia!
  17. What was he doing there in the first place, considering Uganda has no weightlifting quota? Edit: I see, he was on a waiting list and had been informed he didn't make it. Was in Japan in case he would, makes sense. Sad though..
  18. Ugh, these are threads one doesn't want to read back. Most of the things I had completely missed in the chaos of last winter, I was until now living under the assumption the 50k race walk had been saved after all, instead of being murdered And all the quota reductions, what the hell. Not doing wonders for my enthousiasm for next week, which was starting to get high
  19. Sad at it may be, that is a rather weak bit of reacting from McLeod....I mean, surely he didn't run his semifinal the night before alone, and surely he wasn't the only person running the early morning final? How about those who did make it? All of those athletes had to run their final in the morning, and probably knew so beforehand...
  20. One of the sadder 'doping' stories recently, I'd say. First things first, it is entirely her own fault and nothing can take that away, but it's only human to not be able to deal with the death of a parent and lose control over yourself in a way that's perfectly fine for a non-athlete, but sadly not for an athlete. One of the few cases in which I can actually feel some sympathy for someone who tested positive (same with a lot of East German and Soviet athletes who were doped/drugged from when they were only teenagers), even though like I said it is of course 100% on her and her punishment is sad, but correct.
  21. Heavy rain in western Germany, eastern Belgium and southern Netherlands earlier this week. In the Netherlands the damage so far is luckily only material (floodings and such), but in Germany the death toll has gone up from 30 or so yesterday to 81 by now, with 1300 people missing (most of them hopefully just because of the mobile networks being lost and so them not being able to contact anyone), while in Belgium 12 people have died so far. Really unprecedented natural violence in these parts. Whole villages have been damaged, especially those small German towns situated in tight corners of rivers, where something like this sadly was just a matter of time
  22. Not likely. One would assume athletes have to show a negative test, for example, and it's not like any random person can just go and provide a document for any other random athlete and say it happens to be positive
