    And, in case of the 50km, by far the most heroic event. Even the marathon doesn't have this kind of going to the absolute limits of the human body, at least by the looks of it.

    Throwing events would be a better place to reduce something. Why throw a shot, a shot with a chain attached to it, a discus and a javelin? Or triple jump, what's the meaning of looking at who is the best at combining a skip, hop and jump?

    Apart from all that, the Dutch simply don't have/get the financial means to improve their equipment a lot, meaning they are already fighting at a major disadvantage against especially the Brits and their hypermodern rockets in the Olympics.
