  1. The next one in 2 days will be from Euskadi . In previous posts I have covered sevillana from Andalucía, jota from Aragón, chotis from Madrid, sardana from Catalonia, seguidilla from Castilla-La Mancha and muñeira from Galicia, which makes 7 out of 17 regions. After that I will probably move to the team presentations and since these will be based in 9 cities, I will also cover some more details there.
  2. Seguidilla Seguidilla is a type of folk dance that originated in the La Mancha region, in the center of Spain. It is a lively and energetic dance that is typically performed by a solo dancer or by a group of dancers. The seguidilla is usually performed to the accompaniment of a guitar, and the dance itself is characterized by its quick, staccato footwork and sharp, precise movements. The dance is performed in a variety of styles, depending on the region and cultural context.
  3. As an update, all the members of the jury have voted, becoming the first multi-member jury to do so. Furthermore, we have 9 single-member juries that have voted ( ) and 3 more where at least one user has voted but other members are still thinking about their rankings ( ).
  4. Chotis "Chotis" is a dance and music style that apparently originated in Bohemia in the late 18th century, quickly making its way to other parts of Europe and America. It is characterized by its slow and graceful rhythm, and is often performed as a ballroom dance. The chotis is usually performed by couples, who dance to the accompaniment of a small orchestra or a single piano. The dance is characterized by its smooth, gliding steps and elegant movements, and is typically performed in a relaxed, leisurely manner. The chotis was very popular in Spain in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and was considered one of the most sophisticated and refined forms of Spanish dance. Although its popularity has declined in recent decades, the chotis remains an important part of Spanish cultural heritage, and is still performed and appreciated in Madrid.

  6. Yes, but it isn't that weird. We usually have most of the votes in the last 2 or 3 days.
  7. Sardana A sardana is a traditional folk dance originating from Catalonia, a region in northeastern Spain. It is typically performed in a circle, with dancers linking arms and performing coordinated steps in time with the music. Sardanas are typically performed to the accompaniment of a cobla, a type of Catalan wind orchestra, and are often accompanied by singing. The sardana is considered an important part of Catalan cultural heritage and is a symbol of national identity. It is typically performed at celebrations and festivals, and is considered a joyful and celebratory dance that brings people together.
  8. During the weekend, became the first country to vote. Remember, we still have more than a week before the deadline! Meanwhile, let's continue with our posts of traditional music styles of Spain. Muñeira "Muñeira" is a traditional folk dance and music style from Galicia, a region in northwest Spain. It is one of the most important cultural elements of the Galician people and is characterized by its upbeat rhythm and lively style. The muñeira is usually performed by couples, who dance in a lively, energetic manner to the accompaniment of Galician bagpipes (gaita), flutes, and other traditional instruments. The dance is characterized by its quick footwork, stamping, and twirling movements, as well as its intricate hand gestures and turns. The muñeira is considered an important part of Galician culture and is often performed at cultural events, festivals, and other social gatherings. It is a symbol of the region's rich musical heritage and is recognized as one of the most iconic and recognizable forms of Spanish dance.
  9. Jota "Jota" is a traditional folk dance and music style originating from Spain. It is widely performed in many regions of Spain, particularly in the north and northeast, and is known for its lively, upbeat rhythm and distinctive musical style. The jota is usually performed by couples, who dance in a fast and energetic manner to the accompaniment of castanets, guitars, and other traditional instruments. The dance is characterized by its quick footwork, leaping and stamping, and twirling movements. The origins of the jota are not well-known, but it is thought to have developed from a combination of ancient Celtic, Arabic, and Spanish musical and dance traditions. Today, the jota remains a popular folk dance in Spain, and is performed at a variety of social and cultural events, including weddings, festivals, and other celebrations.
  10. During the Voting Windows I will present you some traditional dances/music styles from different parts of the country. I hope you like it! Sevillanas "Sevillana" is a type of folk dance originating from Sevilla. It is characterized by its flamenco-style footwork and is often performed during celebrations, festivals, and other social events in Andalusia, the southern region of Spain. The sevillana is usually performed by couples and is known for its lively rhythm and upbeat music, making it a popular dance choice for parties and other festive occasions such as Ferias. It is typically accompanied by castanets, guitars, and other traditional Spanish instruments. The sevillana is considered an important part of the cultural heritage of Andalusia and is recognized as one of the most iconic and recognizable forms of Spanish dance.
  11. The Spanish jury has sent their votes to a neutral third party, which means that from this moment until Wednesday, March 8th at 23:59 (Central European Time) you can send me your votes via private message.
  12. After my first 2 listenings I am down to 19 songs and my top3 is already defined. As usual, 9th-12th places are going to be very difficult to pick and I will probably have two more listenings before making my final decision on Wednesday. I don't know if it's just me, but I think this year we have a lot of ballads (some of them quite good but others are cliché or imitations of famous singers), more than in previous Annual editions.
  13. The Entries Window is officially closed! You can start listening to the songs whenever you want. As a reminder, the Voting Window will open next Thursday and will last 2 weeks. I hope the 38 registered nations will send their votes in time and participate in the Grand Final of March 18th.
  14. I added a YouTube playlist to the first post in case you want to start listening. I will update it once we get the entries of and (@Fly_like_a_don and @Ionoutz24).
  15. The Entries Window closes in 5 hours and we are still mising 6 songs. For this reason, I will extend the deadline 24 hours so these users have an extra day to post their song. The new deadline is Sunday 19th February at 23:59 (CET). @maestro @Makedonas @Fly_like_a_don @OlympicIRL @Ionoutz24 @vkristijan @Illya
  16. I really liked that song too. In fact, it was one of the options I had in mind for the Open edition. Belinda had several hits in the 2000s and early 2010s but I had lost track of her until the collab with Ana Mena.
  17. FYI: We are getting closer to the deadline for submitting songs (midnight from Saturday to Sunday in CET)! So far we have 19 songs entered @vinipereira @titicow @Wumo @Agger @Bohemia @Benolympique @catgamer @Cinnamon Bun @maestro @Makedonas @Fly_like_a_don @OlympicIRL @Ruslan @mrv86 @Ionoutz24 @heywoodu @vkristijan @rybak @justony @Illya
  18. I just updated the main post. So far we have 9 songs presented and 24 nations pending to submit theirs. I remember all the users that the Entries Selection Windows will be closed next Saturday, so 1 week left. I will post the Spanish entry in a couple of days. I have doubts between a few songs and I can't make up my mind which one to choose.
  19. Friendly reminder to all the users who participated last year in TISC @brunamoura @titicow @vinipereira @intoronto @Damian @thepharoah @Finnator123 @catgamer @Dragon @Quasit @Makedonas @Yannakis @Fly_like_a_don @Dnl @Pablita @Ruslan @Glen @Ionoutz24 @heywoodu @IoNuTzZ @NikolaB @Memo @Argenis Gonzalez @dophuquy Registration Window will be open for 2 more weeks, so you still have plenty of time to pick your song.
  20. So far we have 25 nations and 29 jurors, 4 of them have already presented their entry. I will tag tomorrow those users who competed in previous editions to see if they want to join this year,
  21. We will need to find a video of the song that isn't blocked in the US.
  22. ¡Bienvenidos a España! Welcome to Sevilla! The wait has come to an end! Three months after the thrilling 2022 Open Contest in the Czech Republic, today begins the twentieth edition of the Totallympics International Song Contest, which will be the first time that Spain will act as host country thanks to the victory in 2022 of Tanxugueiras. Several Spanish cities have shown interest in hosting such an important event, but after a long period of deliberation, the organizing team has opted for... ¡Sevilla! The capital of Andalucía is the fourth largest city in the country with 700,000 citizens and almost 2 million living in the metropolitan area. Since Roman times it has played a fundamental role in the history of Spain, having the largest historic center in the country. This is evident when walking through its streets, where you can see the legacy left by the Romans, Visigoths, Arabs and Christians... In sports Sevilla hosted the World Athletics Championships in 1999, the Rhythmic Gymnastics Worlds in 1998 and the Rowing Worlds in 2002. It was also one of the venues for World Cup games in both football (1982) and basketball (2014). Over the next few weeks, we will travel to different places of the country to learn about traditional music and what better way than to start with the host city and the agrupaciones musicales, instrumental musical groups whose origin is linked to Easter, the most popular celebration of Sevilla alongside the Feria de Abril!
