  5. Grand Slam (Brasilia, BRA) Day #3 Recap Teddy Riner's comeback was the absolute highlight of the 3rd and final day of the Brasilia Grand Slam tournament... and he put on quite a show, destroying all of his opponents, starting with a Japanese guy (OK, not their best representative, but still...), following with a very tough Russian as Inal Tasoev and in the semifinal the newly crowned World Champion, Lukas Krpalek... then, in the final he had to face local hero David Moura...and it only took 20 seconds to the great Teddy to send the Brazilian with his back to the mat for an astonishing ippon... he came back in Montreal in July and dominated the field (as usual)...then this week he destroyed the man who now walks around with the world champion's crown (and anybody else who was on his route to success)... tbh, I'm starting thinking what the hell the French Federation was doing when they decided to leave him out of their World Championship's team? I don't think it was really a question of injuries and/or poor training as they said...there must be a lot more behind that very strange decision... by the way, Brazil won 1 more Gold Medal also on the last day of the tournament thanks to Beatriz Sousa (women's +78kg), which elevated their total to 4 Gold Medals, number that obviously gave them the top of the Medal Table at the end of the Tournament... Yesterday's remaining Gold Medals, instead, went to Cuba (Kaliema Antomarchi, women's -78kg), Spain (Nikoloz Sherazadishvili, men's -90kg) and Japan (Kentaro Iida, men's -100kg), which means that in the Final Medal Table, following the dominating Home Nation, we have Japan with 2 Gold Medals and a bunch of Nations (8) with 1 Gold Medal each ( Colombia, Cuba, France, Great Britain, Italy, Portugal, Russia and Spain)... Full Results, here: http://www.ippon.org/gs_bra2019.php
  6. and now it's 151, since he won his semifinal match against the recently crowned World Champion, Lukas Krpalek... in the Gold Medal match he's going to face local hero David Moura, who beat Rafael Silva in an all-Brazilian affair in the other semifinal match... p.s. for those who are interested, as usual, the entire tournament is available on Youtube... here are tonight's finals (just started as I write this post)...
  7. Grand Slam (Brasilia, BRA) Day #2 Recap 4 weight classes contested in day #2 of the Brasilia Grand Slam tournament...and 4 different Nations on top of them... Brazil still managed to win 1 more Gold Medal (Ketleyn Quadros, women's -63kg) and obviously still lead the Medal Table after 9 of the 14 events with 3 Gold Medals... Yesterday's remaining Gold Medals, instead, went to Colombia (Yuri Alvear, women's -70kg), Russia (Musa Mogushkov, men's -73kg) and Japan (Takanori Nagase, men's -81kg) Full Results, here: http://www.ippon.org/gs_bra2019.php

  11. yeah, but the Mexicans going away with real running is always an issue...look at Guadalupe Gonzalez in London (and before that in Rio, too, but less blatantly)...

  15. so, quick recap... men's teams qualified to the Tokyo Olympics Russia* China* Japan* Ukraine* Great Britain* Switzerland* United States* Chinese Taipei* South Korea Brazil Spain Germany * = also qualified to the team final at the 2019 World Championships...
  16. and now it's official...Italy are the first team among the eliminated ones...bye bye Tokyo...
  17. Lodadio officially in the Rings final with the 5th score from this qualification round...hopefully he can still save a bit our ass, here and in Tokyo next year... tbh, we can live even without a team that's not even close to make the team final...the important thing for us is to protect our only medal candidate...if he wins a medal here and next year, I'm more than happy (hoping to see the girls improving a lot in the next 12 months, instead)...
  18. sure, but then you'll start seeing 20k covered in 1h30+ also in ideal conditions and 50k always over the 4 hours... and most fans will start asking themselves why? what have we watched until now? not to mention the issue with the current "favoured Nations" lobbying hard against anything that could put their political advantage in danger... and the main thing is not even that...as I wrote, the real problem is that those chips don't solve the main issue of race walking (the knees blocked or not) at all, therefore they are not the medicine saving race walking nor makin' it better (or at least a bit more fair)... p.s. it's not always against Italy...in the past, we had our days when we were taking advantage of this situation...now others do (the problem is that they do it blatantly and with extreme arrogance)...
  19. SUI only need 38 points at the Parallel Bars to overtake Italy for the last Olympic spot...it's over!
  20. NED is basically out...Germany is almost safe...it's going to be SUI vs ITA in the end...and SUI have quite an advantage before the last 2 rotations (1.5 points)... how much are we gonna regret that Mozzato's fall at the PH? immensely, I fear...
  21. actually race walking was always held in short circuits (max 3k) plus a short stint to exit/enter the stadium because they still had a restrict number of judges (the difference was that until a few years ago, the judges were taken fron the NF of the organizing Nation, so they could afford in certain cases to have a bigger number of them -but that always led to many inepts covering that role and making disasters in terms of allowing athletes to infinge all the rules or disqualifying people who were walking perfectly only because of political pressure, even more than nowadays...meanwhile right now there is a panel of judges -still bised when not corrupted, but this is another issue- who are always the same covering the global events...this was done because iaaf wanted to have more uniformity in judging, but we're still well far away from having a fair and objective situation)... the chip question, is far from being approved...there is a lot of controversy and many coaches / athletes are against it, because it would certify that nobody is walking regularly...suspension is almost physiological at the speed they walk nowadays...and it doesn't solve the real problem, the interpretation of the knees being blocked or not, which is what makes today's race walking a farce, as they allow always the same athletes from the same Nations to run instead of walk...
  22. after the end of the Athletics Worlds, now I'm focused only on the Baseball playoffs, in both the MLB and the NPB (and maybe I give a shot to the KBO also)... the only other events I'm going to follow in the next 3/4 weeks are a few big matches in European Soccer and of course some Hockey from all around the World (I just can't live without it )...
  23. and beside the main circuit, there's also a secondary tour, made of the socalled Satellite Tournaments... basically, those events have a second tier starting field and sometimes are used by a few top tier fencers only as a warm-up for the upcoming World Cup circuit... but, since they still give a few points for the World ranking away, which might prove decisive for the Individual Olympic Qualification (especially in those Continents where the top fencers almost never reach the top placings in the World Cup events), I decided to post also the Schedule of this second tier Circuit (and the winner of the tournaments already completed)... 2019 FIE Satellite Circuit Schedule Competition Type Location Date Weapon Gender Scheduled Events Winner* Satellite Belgrade (SRB) 01/09/2019 Epee Women Individual Abdulaziz Alshatti (KUW) Satellite Belgrade (SRB) 01/09/2019 Epee Men Individual Anna Kun (HUN) Satellite Tashkent (UZB) 05/09/2019 Foil Men Individual Martino Minuto (TUR) Satellite Tashkent (UZB) 06/09/2019 Foil Women Individual Marta Martyanova (RUS) Satellite Tashkent (UZB) 07/09/2019 Epee Women Individual Maia Guchmazova (GEO) Satellite Amsterdam (NED) 07/09/2019 Foil Men Individual Martino Minuto (TUR) Satellite Tashkent (UZB) 08/09/2019 Epee Men Individual Fayzulla Alimov (UZB) Satellite Amsterdam (NED) 08/09/2019 Sabre Men Individual Siarhei Kisel (BLR) Satellite Amsterdam (NED) 08/09/2019 Foil Women Individual Maia Mei Wentraub (USA) Satellite Bratislava (SVK) 14/09/2019 Foil Men Individual Martino Minuto (TUR) Satellite Bratislava (SVK) 14/09/2019 Foil Women Individual Dora Lupkovics (HUN) Satellite Bratislava (SVK) 15/09/2019 Epee Women Individual Dorina Budai (HUN) Satellite Bucarest (ROU) 21/09/2019 Foil Men Individual Martino Minuto (TUR) Satellite Plovdiv (BUL) 21/09/2019 Sabre Men Individual Sandro Bazadze (GEO) Satellite Stockholm (SWE) 21/09/2019 Epee Men Individual Sten Priinits (EST) Satellite Bucarest (ROU) 22/09/2019 Foil Women Individual Fanny Kreiss (HUN) Satellite Plovdiv (BUL) 22/09/2019 Sabre Women Individual Lika Jijieishvili (GEO) Satellite Stockholm (SWE) 22/09/2019 Epee Women Individual Erika Kirpu (EST) Satellite Turku (FIN) 28/09/2019 Epee Women Individual Erika Kirpu (EST) Satellite Turku (FIN) 28/09/2019 Epee Men Individual Patrick Jorgensen (DEN) Satellite Gand (BEL) 29/09/2019 Sabre Women Individual Anna Bashta (AZE) Satellite Gand (BEL) 29/09/2019 Sabre Men Individual Edern Annic (FRA) Satellite Mexico City (MEX) 29/09/2019 Foil Women Individual Maia Mei Wentraub (USA) Satellite Mexico City (MEX) 29/09/2019 Foil Men Individual Maximilien Van Haaster (CAN) Satellite Copenhagen(DEN) 05/10/2019 Foil Men Individual Carlos Llavador (ESP) Satellite Geneva (SUI) 05/10/2019 Epee Men Individual Federico Vismara (ITA) Satellite Oslo (NOR) 05/10/2019 Epee Men Individual Anatolii Herey (UKR) Satellite Reykjavik (ISL) 05/10/2019 Sabre Women Individual Maia Chamberlain (USA) Satellite Copenhagen(DEN) 06/10/2019 Foil Women Individual Amita Berthier (SGP) Satellite Geneva (SUI) 06/10/2019 Epee Women Individual Pauline Brunner (SUI) Satellite Oslo (NOR) 06/10/2019 Epee Women Individual Anfisa Pochkalova (UKR) Satellite Reykjavik (ISL) 06/10/2019 Sabre Men Individual Jakub Ocinski (POL) Satellite Split (CRO) 12/10/2019 Epee Women Individual Nelli Differt (EST) Satellite Split (CRO) 13/10/2019 Epee Men Individual Sergey Bida (RUS) Satellite Antalya (TUR) 19/10/2019 Foil Women Individual Irem Karamete (TUR) Satellite San Josè (CRC) 19/10/2019 Epee Women Individual Haruna Baba (JPN) Satellite Zagreb (CRO) 19/10/2019 Foil Men Individual Daniel Dosa (HUN) Satellite Antalya (TUR) 20/10/2019 Sabre Women Individual Anna Bashta (AZE) Satellite San Josè (CRC) 20/10/2019 Epee Men Individual Dylan French (CAN) Satellite Maalot (ISR) 26/10/2019 Epee Women Individual Nicole Feigin (ISR) Satellite Barcelona (ESP) 26/10/2019 Foil Women Individual Aida Mohamed (HUN) Satellite Barcelona (ESP) 26/10/2019 Foil Men Individual Carlos Llavador (ESP) Satellite Dublin (IRL) 26/10/2019 Epee Men Individual Tristan Tulen (NED) Satellite Tbilisi (GEO) 27/10/2019 Sabre Women Individual Anna Bashta (AZE) Satellite Tbilisi (GEO) 27/10/2019 Sabre Men Individual Sandro Bazadze (GEO) * The Winner of each Satellite Tournament gets 4 Points in the World Ranking; the Runner-up 3; the losing Semifinalists 2; the losers in the Quarterfinals 1 LIGHT BLUE = Epee Tournaments LIGHT YELLOW = Foil Tournaments LIGHT GREEN = Sabre Tournaments Full Results can be found on the FIE Official Website, www.fie.org

  25. just 3 weeks to go... so, it's time to open the new thread dedicated to the main circuit of this sport... to be remembered: the Fencing World Cup is made of 2 different kinds of competitions, the regular World Cup events (which always host the Individual and the Team event of a given weapon in the same weekend and in the same location) and the Grand Prix events (which always host only the Individual events in both genders of a given weapon in the same weekend and in the same location and give more points for the World Ranking away for the various final placings than the regular World Cup events)...
