  1. All I can say is: the ability to ignore some users does wonders for my mental health here.
  2. LOL, this is one of the funniest proposals I've seen so far. In the early editions of the Olympics, men didn't compete on floor, and women had an extra event called portable apparatus, which is basically what group rhythmic gymnastics is nowadays. However, women did compete on the parallel bars in the past, so if this crazy idea actually turns out to be even remotely considered, I see men losing one event (floor) and women getting one extra event (parallel bars). Of course, this would only happen if FIG goes the extra mile to use the history of the sport to justify anything. Also, I believe that in some competitions in the United States, women also performed on rings. But this idea is almost absurd nowadays. Another proposal would be men's events being shortened, with floor and vault gone. It would be sad, but a special version of the all-around competition could happen at the Olympics with only four events...
  3. This would be both simple and logical. FIG could also add 2 sets of medals to the group events, so the extra boxing event would not need to be removed and one extra weight category could be added to another sport, presumably weightlifting.
  4. Thank you! This shows a much clearer picture of where rhythmic gymnastics stands and how it fits in the so-called "gender equality" proposal. I am one of the only ones here who likes the idea to push gender equality, but I was worried about how the IOC is going to make it work. This document explains things a lot better.
  5. A ideia é interessante, mas também estou sem tempo para assumir o controle do fórum. As aulas presenciais voltaram e meu trabalho agora duplicou: em casa, com aulas remotas, e presencialmente na escola. Alguém consegue assumir a liderança disso?
  6. I really don't understand what people want. If Russia wins everything, this sport is a mess, it should be removed from the Olympics, the world is doomed. If Russia loses the gold medal, this sport is a mess, it should be removed from the Olympics, the world is doomed.
  7. If you think that what happened at the Olympics was bad enough, you should remember what happened in your own country. In short, a Filipino gymnast was given a gold medal she never deserved because the event was staged in the Philippines. Now, this is what I call bad judging and robbery towards the host nation. What happened at the Olympics was perfectly normal. Watch this:
  8. 95% of my enjoyment comes from gymnastics events. I don't think we've ever had an edition of the Olympics with more surprises and dramas than Tokyo. Some of the highlights: 1) Simone Biles showed huge character by stepping out of most of the finals. I've become an admirer after such strength. 2) ROC winning two team events surprising everyone. 3) Gold medal for Brazil, of course. 4) First-ever medals for Armenia, New Zealand and Turkey. 5) Drama, tears and crazy results in rhythmic gymnastics, with ROC this time losing both events. Seriously, I couldn't have asked for more. I liked this edition and it's been the best ever OG for me. Yes, it would have been even better if spectators were allowed, but given the situation, Japan did a good job. I have lots and lots of complaints about the Japanese government and their lack of responsibility by failing to vaccinate the population, but this has nothing to do with the Olympics per se. I enjoyed skateboarding a lot, and it has become one of the top 5 sports for me. I didn't like surfing at all. Karate was an absurd and unnecessary addition, in my opinion, and I'm glad it will probably never return to the program. I'm also glad Baseball will be gone, hopefully for good. The only thing I miss is that there isn't an specific athlete this time that can be recognized as the face of the Olympics, like we've had with Bolt and Phelps. For me, I guess it will be Biles. She proved that competing at the Olympics is more than going for medals. Respect yourself first and foremost is the most important message one could deliver.
  9. Oh, right, it's Shatilov who lives in Uzbekistan. My bad here. Dolgopyat is from Ukraine. It makes things even more absurd because Ukraine didn't win any medals in gymnastics for the first time in history. I remember when Maksyuta also competed representing Israel. It's crazy how they just handle free passes to gymnasts from Ukraine.
  10. Don't forget Dolgopyat, who is actually Uzbek and even lives in Uzbekistan according to information from one website I read. Poor Uzbekistan was robbed of an Olympic gold medal here, if you ask me. The same happened when Chusovitina represented Germany in 2008, in my opinion.
  11. Believe me: I'm not one to defend Ashram, but she worked hard for the results and she deserved it. The fact that some of the Russians are trying to make it look like she didn't deserve the gold medal is ridiculous. Now, please, read this: https://www.nbcolympics.com/news/rhythmic-gymnastics-101-scoring It's also important to consider that we're discussing an all-around competition, and performance on all 4 apparatus count. Her performance on ribbon might not have been excellent, but the drop only cost 0.3/0.5 depending on how many steps she took to get to the apparatus. This is a very small penalty in a sport where scores in 1 single apparatus can go up to 24/25 points. and Olympic medals are decided with combined scores around 100 points. You can complain about the Code of Points -- I do this all the time -- but you can't just say that she didn't win the gold medal in a fair way. Also, take a look at he body difficulty skills compared to Dina Averina's:
  12. LOL, I'm sorry to also come here and burst your bubble, but I now laugh at how we thought we could have won a medal in karate two years ago. I was somewhat also confident back then. Fast forward two years and we didn't even qualify anyone.
  13. Okay, let's check how many I got right. "Safe" medals Artistic gymnastics: 1 medal --> 2 medals (1 more than what I predicted) Athletics: 1 medal --> 2 medals (1 more) Boxing: 1 medal --> 3 medals (2 more) Judo: 1 medal --> 2 medals (1 more) Sailing: 1 medal --> 1 medal Skateboarding: 3 medals --> 3 medals Sprint canoeing: 2 medals --> 1 medal Surfing: 2 medals --> 1 medal Volleyball and Beach volleyball: 2 medals --> 1 medal Likely, but definitely not easy: Football: 1 medal --> 1 medal Taekwondo: 1 medal --> No medals Swimming and Open water swimming: 2 medals --> 3 medals (1 more) Unlikely, but feasible medals Cycling: 1 medal --> No medals Fencing: 1 medal --> No medals Slalom canoeing: 1 medal --> No medals Tennis: 1 medal --> 1 medal Nearly impossible medals Archery: 1 medal --> No medals Table tennis: 1 medal --> No medals Wrestling: 1 medal --> No medals All in all, I'm happy with my predictions. The medals which I thought were nearly impossible were, indeed, impossible. Among the unlikely medals, we got 1 out of 4. Among the likely medals, we got 4 out of 4, but only because we got one more medal than I expected in swimming, while in taekwondo our best finish was 5th. Still close. Among the safe medals, I got every sport correctly, and actually two more medals than I had originally predicted. Major surprises for me: artistic gymnastics, boxing, tennis and swimming Major disappointments: fencing, cycling, volleyball/beach volleyball and taekwondo
  14. It looks like that lost gold medal in trampoline that you said no one would remember after three weeks will indeed be remembered for the rest of our lives.
  15. What a disappointing last day. Two silver medals and Canada got ahead of us... But we still have many reasons to celebrate. This was our best performance in total number of medals. In Tokyo, Brazil earned 21 medals compared to 19 in Rio, our previous best performance. We also tied our best performance in gold medals, 7, the same number we reached in Rio. 12th place is our historical record, while 13th in Rio was our previous best. We had our worst ever performance in beach volleyball, without earning medals. Volleyball only earned one silver medal, which is very disappointing. Judo brought home two medals, the lowest number in a long time. We had huge expectations in skateboarding, and even though we got three silver medals, it still feels kind of a letdown. Only one medal in surfing is also less than we expected. We were hopeful for medals in cycling, fencing and tennis for the first time. That only happened in tennis, and definitely not in the way we expected. Women's artistic gymnastics bringing home two medals, one of them gold, is a dream I was afraid I would never see becoming true. Three medals in swimming, one of them gold, is also something no one was expecting. Two medals in athletics was an interesting result. Boxing was our biggest surprise here, with three medals. No one expected that. Overall, a very interesting edition of the Olympics for Brazil. We reached our best ever result even though our athletes choked in a lot of events. It's kind of unreal. If we had better performances from some of our athletes, we could have earned at least 5 more gold medals. But I'm pretty happy the way it is. It's just too bad that in Paris we will be unable to reach these results.
  16. No gold medal for Russia in rhythmic gymnastics!!!! Justice was served!!!! Congratulations, Bulgaria!!!
  17. Russia with mistakes AGAIN. The day has come. The end of an era.
  18. Italy might have lost their medal here. Not as strong as it could have been. Too bad. I was rooting for them.
  19. Japan got completely lost this year. They had such awesome routines...
  20. The Somali refugees with silver and bronze. What a pity that they couldn't represent Somalia, though...
