Zare could win this match 99 out of 100. but he just went that 1% path of losing this

not in a celebration mood because of what happened in other sports, but this is Iran's first gold medal in this sport in 16 years and we have to thank some very special organization for this. the UK government !
 
few months ago for the last ranking tournament (GP final), the UK denied visa for the entire Iranian team. our 58kg guy Haji-Mousaei was VERY close to the quota but lost it because of that. the WT did nothing about it, just giving some promises about this won't happen again. 
 
with max 2 quotas per country rule , if Iran had won that quota, we wouldn't be able to send anybody to the Asian qualifiers. our TKD federation had a tough decision to make about who to send to the AQT. they picked up +80kg (and not 58kg)
 
and, Arian Salimi, the +80kg guy won the gold tonight, ironically beating a British fighter in the final. (while the rest of the British team went home empty handed)

Jesus, Amouzadkhalili is a literal tank. He's demolishing everyone. 

It was quite tragic to see his introduction and seeing a bunch of people starting to wave their flags right at that moment (and sadly the TV camera picking it up as if it was some 'cool' thing). Can't provoke more clearly than those people did...

Deserved and expected win for Yazdani. Nothing to add here. Legend.
 
Sad for Boris, and our wrestling community, they were in a mission here and hoping for attracting and popularizing this beautiful sport in the country, sadly Boris wrestled only 1 match here in the middle of night and nothing will change in the country, well, "I sincerely hope"  only until Paris.
 
So gutted and sad for Boris, but happy for our forum´s wrestlingboy @MHSN

Uguev wins the first Russia - Iran battle. Now Yazdani has to equal the score against Naifonov.

you give up 2pts if you "flee" the mat. going out without a fight. and to be honest I think that was just 1. Starcevic was somehow resisting, it wasn't fleeing. Geraei got lucky here.
and the last action was 4 or 2 for Geraei, this is ridiculous if anybody thinks another way.
 
but there were other problems in this match, Geraei was all attack in the 2nd period, he was attacking the whole time, the center ref asked for passivity caution against red (CRO) twice but other refs ignored it. I mean Starcevic was very passive he didn't deserve a chance in parterre. and surely he didn't deserve 1 whole minute to perform two gut-wrenches, that's usually 20-30 seconds.
 
but this is Greco-Roman wrestling where rules are not clear. there are lots of grey areas. it usually works in favor of certain countries. I'm just glad Geraei survived this match
 
hopefully Geraei can pull Starcevic back into the repechage but he is too inconsistent , you never know what to expect with him.

Greco-Roman wrestling desperately needs the golden score system of judo. It's a joke when someone gets through because they waited until the second half to be more active, just so they get the advantage at 1-1. 

Algerian Judoka Fethi Nourine and his coach, Amar Benikhlef, decided to withdraw their match to avoid a possible second-round matchup with Israel’s Tohar Butbul in the men’s 73 kg division Judo. They would be sent home for this behaviour.
