  1. There will be a full programme swim-off between and for the 16th place to see who advances to the semis.
  2. For those saying they’d like to get rid of football in favour of beach soccer, I only agree with removing men’s football. Women’s football has a valid spot at the Olympics for me and would like to see it stay.
  3. Both our medley relay teams finished in 13th place. Hopefully it might be enough to qualify for the Olympics but it will be tight. Also I’m hoping today is the day Ireland wins its first ever medal at the Aquatics World Championships
  4. The only issues I would have with cricket (T20) coming into the Games are if the number of teams is 4-5.... needs to be at least 8 to an be acceptable competition for me and also if it takes away quotas at the expense of other sports which it would unless they do a radical u-turn on the athlete quota. I don't watch cricket, it's never appealed to me, though the T20 and ODI 50-over formats are much more interesting than Test cricket for me (I have never watched a single Test match).
  5. Daniel Wiffen achieved the OQT in the men’s 1500m freestyle, advancing as 2nd fastest qualifier for the final in 14:43.50 mins.
  6. Not the results they had hoped for but a great achievement for our girls to qualify for a first World Cup.
  7. Daniel Wiffen becomes the 43rd member of Team Ireland, making the OQT in the men's 800m freestyle. Here is a summary of the Paris 2024 Olympic team as it stands: IRELAND 43 Total Athletes 17 Men 20 Women 20 Total Events 5 Total Sports List of Team Ireland Qualifiers
  8. While I agree it was unlikely she going to be on the podium and 5th place is actually a great result, I wouldn’t say based on her semi final performance she had no chance. But again 5th is actually a great result for her and improves on her 8th place in Tokyo.
  9. Exciting for Irish swimming to finally have contenders on the world stage. Mona McSharry goes in the women’s 100m breaststroke final later today as the 4th fastest qualifier. A medal may just be out of reach but she is in the hunt. Daniel Wiffen into the men’s 800m final as 4th fastest in a new Irish record. His best event is still to come as well, the 1500m freestyle. Not to mention Ellen Walshe placing 9th overall in the women’s 200m IM and just missing the final but setting a new Irish record in the process. Dare we hope for a medal at these championships? Here’s hoping!
  10. Daniel Wiffen has achieved the OQT as expected in the men’s 800m. He set a new Irish record of 7:43.81 mins to qualify as 4th fastest for the final.
  11. Mona McSharry becomes the 42nd qualified athlete for Paris 2024. She set a new PB and Irish record of 1:05.55 mins this morning to go through as 2nd fastest qualifier for this evening’s semis of the women’s 100m breaststroke. What a swim!
  12. Updated the tracker with the qualifiers throughout this weekend: Athletics - Diamond League Monaco Rhasidat Adeleke (Women's 400m) Ciara Mageean (Women's 1500m) Swimming - World Championships, Fukuoka Ellen Walshe (Women's 200m Individual Medley) We now have 41 athletes qualified for Paris 2024!
  13. Ellen Walshe achieved the OQT in the women's 200 IM, just missing out on the final in 9th place.
  14. Who an earth is in charge of the Diamond League graphics these last few years? They are just truly terrible as always and not visually appealing. It is also annoying how they show start-lists, particularly in the sprints and relays where they can easily show the 8 names on the screen at once, but no they decide to show 6 and then scroll through the remaining ones. And then the results are always annoyingly bad, takes an age to find out where everyone finished and the times. And the field events are another cluster. It's seriously not that hard.
  15. Don't forget there were also qualifiers in the women's 1500m from the mile race at Monaco. Anyone running under 4:20.90 in the mile got the Olympic time.
  16. Rhasidat Adeleke becomes the 39th member of Team Ireland with a second place finish over 200m at the Gold Label meeting in Hungary this evening. Her time of 22.36 secs is well inside the Olympic qualifying time of 22.57 secs and just 0.02 secs off her own Irish record she set earlier in the year. Her main event of course being the 400m which she will hope to achieve the Olympic qualifying time at the Monaco Diamond League on Friday!
  17. Andrew Coscoran has become the 38th qualifier for Team Ireland with an impressive 4th place finish in the men's 1500m at the Diamond League in Silesia, Poland. He ran another new Irish record 3:30.42 mins! Seriously good time
  18. 3:30.42 for another new Irish NR for Coscoran . Qualifies for the Olympics too!
  19. 1-2 in the women's 1500m . Maybe in the reverse order that paper suggested but O'Sullivan is a fast finisher so not surprising that she got the better of Healy in the sprint finish.
  20. It looks like we have our 37th member of Team Ireland with Brian Fay breaking Alistair Cragg's long-standing Irish record in the men's 5000m tonight in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium. His time of 13:01.40 mins dips well below the Olympic qualifying time (13:05:00 mins).
  21. Brian Fay 13:01.40 mins for a new Irish NR in men's 5000m in Heusden this evening and an Olympic qualifying time
  22. Wow, the discus official doing some gymnastics there
