  1. Great job by Jessie and Rosie. Incredible to see continued American success in women's cross-country. Would have been nice to get a full TV broadcast here in the states, but certainly can't complain with the results!
  2. And you would be correct about that.. Russia’s ban from Olympics, world championships now two years Similar to 2018, they can complete so long as "Neutral Athlete" is as prominent on their uniforms as "Russia"
  3. Yea, I don't think the Tokyo 2020 organizers are going to be too upset that these got posted on a semi-public website. Putting "confidential" on them probably just means not to widely share them with the media or with athletes or whoever else. But that they happen to get leaked on a website somewhere, not exactly a major problem. A lot of the info is out there anyway and obviously most of the information (minus the minute by minute breakdowns) is already on Tokyo's own website.
  4. I did a big Excel document for PyeongChang in 2018, largely for the purposes of tracking American television coverage. So I'm doing something similar here. Not quite the same as the line by line version you have, but once we get closer to the Olympics, I'll upload it to a shared site so I can reference it from here.
  5. This was the logo the franchise had used for decades and finally retired a few years ago.. So I can understand what they might want to move away from that history. No question this nation has an odd relationship with its own history of racism and discrimination that it sometimes a lot of people aren't fully aware of. It's been suggested for years that the Indians drop the logo and then the name, so this isn't just something from the media. And they're trying to get out in front of it, unlike with the Washington Football Team, where a major sponsor threatens to pull their funding if nothing changes.
  6. That news had been rumored by the Indians for awhile. Was only a matter of time before it was going to happen
  7. I know it's not the same with all the Scandinavian skiers missing, but that's amazing to see an American win consecutive days! Great job, Rosie!!
  8. New format is good. It works much better as a table so all the columns are aligned. I'm working on a Microsoft Excel grid version of the schedule. And on that note.. This is outstanding. Was wondering if anywhere had an individual breakdown of specific times for each sport. So this is exactly what I've been looking for all in 1 spot. Thanks for sharing!
  9. Doesn't seem like an Olympic "sport" and rather something that's just there to draw in a younger audience. Cool idea, but I don't know how much interest it's going to generate.
  10. Some interesting developments here. Glad to see them streamlining things, even if it sucks for a sport like weightlifting
  11. Fair point. We know PyeongChang ran into a ton of issues with the alpine venues because they didn't anticipate the wind conditions. Not sure if there are any sort of similar concerns with Beijing. Somewhat sad state of affairs with the Olympics that they are potentially trying to avoid the middle of the day because it's not cold enough.
  12. They've been pushing having events at night for awhile now. I recall some of the technical alpine events in 2006 in Torino being a night. So that's no longer a restricution. Yes, at this point most things are optimized for attendance. So each sport/event is looking out for themselves for the most part rather than trying to fit into the bigger picture of the whole schedule
  13. 1 correction for you.. the men's ice hockey gold medal game is the 2nd-to-last event. The women's 30km cross-country will take place after, which is the same as PyeongChang.
  14. Well, we also know whose television preferences run the show. And we know that's not coming from Asia or Europe
  15. Ehh... figure skating works a lot better for North America than it does for Europe where it's being held in the middle of the night. No coincidence that's being held in the morning in Beijing. You're probably right on all that. It's largely the individual sport federations setting their schedules. Still shouldn't leave as many gaps in the action as it does. Again, Vancouver didn't have that issue, particularly with the hockey schedules where all the games were spaced out
  16. They seem to want everything early in the day or later in the day aside from hockey and curling. I don't get why they do that, and obviously it wasn't just PyeongChang that operated that way
  17. Sochi wasn't as bad as PyeongChang. They had events in the middle of the day. The hockey schedule was bad, but the rest was okay. Sadly, that trend has continued over the last 3 Olympics. Maybe by 2026 they'll finally get it right again!
  18. I created a big spreadsheet to help plan out all my viewing. I couldn't believe how many times there were massive gaps with little to know competition going on. Very disappointing to see Beijing largely follow that template, particularly with the hockey schedule
  19. My thoughts exactly. During PyeongChang, way too many times of the day where there was very little going on and they're doing the same thing here. Yes, I definitely miss Vancouver where all the hockey games were spaced out and not going on simultaneously.
  20. Full competition schedule attached. And to answer your other question, all of the biathlon events start around 17:00, so that should be late morning for you in Germany Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games Competition Schedule Version 7.pdf
  21. Last season, starting pitchers had a collective ERA of 4.54, while relievers' collective ERA was 4.46. Different set of circumstances for a starting pitcher since they're pitching multiple innings instead of just 1, but the idea that starters are far better than relievers just isn't true. If a starting pitcher gives up 3 runs in the first inning, that's not something you're going to "notice" as much as when it happens late in the game. As if a reliever is automatically supposed to get through an inning unscathed. It's just more noticeable when it happens later in the game and you rarely hear about or talk about the guy that struck out the side in order in the 7th inning. But it's a big deal if he gives up a couple of runs
  22. If these guys supposedly aren't good enough, who is good enough then? This is the nature of baseball these days.. it starts with younger kids who aren't brought up as well as they used to be. They'll be rewarded for throwing as hard as possible (often until they need Tommy John surgery) because they see that it's possible to make big money in the majors if you're a good middle reliever. The "relievers are just failed starters" line of thinking isn't as true now as it was 10 or 20 or 30 years ago. But sure, let's judge the entire system because 1 guy had an off night and a team pulled him after 1/3 of an inning
  23. As long as it's this year only, it's fine. This is a 60 game regular season. Not a true 162 game test that we normally have. And it's going to make for a lot more relevant baseball games in September which will help keep teams and players motivated when they'd otherwise be playing out the string in empty stadiums. My concern is the randomness of baseball, especially in a shorter series. Very easy for a lesser team to catch a few breaks and knock off a better one.
  24. Not anymore it doesn't. Look at the the debate over the name change which has been out there for years. Look how quickly things changed when 1 big time sponsor made it about money. The fact that Snyder is about to be Donald Sterling'ed out of the league is about something completely separate. Yes, he'll be replaced with someone else, and again, maybe they'll no longer be one of the most poorly run franchises that has little excuse to be poorly run.
