    Posted this in another thread but it seems crazy to me that they are not working on a plan B with months to go. There must be tons of lakes in France where you could stage open-water & a triathlon.

    Back in the 1880s & 90s when the Olympic movement was formed professional athletics existed, but it was notoriously corrupt & rigged so competing as an amateur was a guarantee of honour. These days are long gone.

    Busy weekend with S(X marathons - Zaragoza, Annency, Rotterdam, Manchester, Hannover ( National Champs) & Boston. Also one of your big long early season everybody registers a time track meets from Milan.

    This seems sensible, so it obviously won’t happen Glasgow could step in with a scaled-back offering should no other host be found for the 2026 Commonwealth Games. Last week, Singapore joined Malaysia in ruling out a bid, after the Australian state of Victoria withdrew as host in July because of rising costs.     OH, yeah, they wanted to be politically correct and make a big song and dance about climate etc, but I am sure that the practical objection was the one I gave. Horses, on the other hand, are very welcome, nothing better for the grass than horses!

    Most of the big names, I’n glad to see. In non-Olympic years there’s much less enthusiasm.

    No worse than any other form of shooting. In fact, less so because no powder was used, just lead pellets & compressed air. But I guess that since MP often shares facilities with other sports, unlike biathlon which has its own ranges, then nobody wants little lead bullets all over the goal line of their lovely football pitch, so that was the thinking.

    The pistols were not .22s like biathlon, but air pistols that had to be hand-loaded and recocked after every shot. It made it more exciting because there were lots more possibilities for nervous hands to fumble the pellets, mess up the loading etc etc as well as simply missing the target.

    Exactly. What about somewhere like that park in Annency where they hold the Summer Biathlon? Would be utterly perfect. Must be any number of such places.

    Pfeiffer Georgi - the girl with the backwards name - gets a very prestigious third in the Paris-Roubaix. Hopefully it will lead to a promotion, at the moment she is a bit stuck in a super-domestique position.

    Watching the Paris-Roubaix just now. What strikes me is the sheer number of mobile home owners who have chosen to park beside giant piles of manure.
