  1. Masse dropped a 57.70s at trials, 0.4s faster than her previous Canadian record. Second best time this year.
  2. Good to see a Canadian record from Santo Condorelli being broken. Gotta say, after watching every final sessions from the US and Australian Olympic swimming trials, the Canadian trials seem like an extremely amateur production in comparison. Not surprising (the only Canadian Olympic trials that are an impressive TV production are the ones for curling) but still. I guess I should be happy there is a decent live stream at all.
  3. A gold medal in any team sport would go down as one of the biggest moment in Canadian sports history. Canada hasn't won a gold medal in any summer team sport since ice hockey was in the summer Olympics. For the individual events, Micheal Woods winning the men's road race. It would be the perfect way for Canada to start the Olympics, and the road race is personally one of my favourite Olympic event.
  4. Normally that would be an easy day 1, but looking at the schedule it might be possible for the US to not get a medal until day 2. Depends mostly on how the day 1 shooting and fencing events go. Winning medals on day 2 is a lock. Day 2 will most likely be the first medal, and the best chance is the women’s synchronized 3m springboard.
  5. Hsieh Su-wei, the world number one in doubles, has been ruled ineligible by the ITF. She appealed the decision was upheld. https://www.taipeitimes.com/News/sport/archives/2020/10/30/2003746035
  6. Ryan Crouser set a world record in the men's shot put during the very first event of the US Olympic trials - 23.37m.
  7. They need to just... chill with the restrictions on the overall number of athletes.
  8. In his statement he claims he's withdrawing due to the COVID restrictions and that he intends to play in Paris in three years (eyeroll)
  9. Simone Manuel will not defend her 100m freestyle title. She was ninth in the semi-finals, missing out by 0.02s.
  10. If you are a pro tennis player the Olympics is not what pays your bills. It’s basically an unpaid work trip.
  11. The Olympics not providing ranking points is a legit reason for some low ranked players. You see it in golf too, some Zimbabwean player who was one of the lowest ranked qualifier didn’t play in Rio because his PGA card was endangered for the following season and he wanted to focus on that.
  12. Black is making her third Olympics, Olsen her second. Moors is the younger sister of 2012 Olympian Victoria Moors. Stewart wouldn't have been eligible to compete had the games be held in 2020.
  13. I'd love to see some sort of alternate stroke matchplay event, either same gendered or mixed (or both? :P ) in addition to the traditional stroke-play tournament. The lack of any team event at the Olympics has been an objection from a lot of pro golfers from the start. The Olympic golf tournament really needs something to make it stand out, and frankly just making it a matchplay event wouldn't be enough IMO (there is already some big money "world championship" that has that kind of format). Also, being a top 300 golfer is... not bad. There are a *lot* of pro golfers.
  14. I don't think it was, you can see him poking the ball with his off foot when he's trying to clear the second time, which is why he whiffed. Looks like he wasn't really paying attention for the first clear attempt (this was just after half time) and panicked during his second clear attempt. Either way it's an all time terrible own goal.
  15. He was playing great during the first half, too.
  16. It really just should be added back. Requires no additional athletes or venues.
  17. Canada in the hex octo, lets go!
  18. Hopefully it won’t stop you from watching the games.
  19. The organization deserves to have it's funding wiped out. The athletes don't.
  20. What's kind of crazy to me is that there are only two chances to qualify in open water swimming. Would be way better if they used some kind of ranking system imo.
  21. Field hockey and skateboarding, too.
  22. https://youtu.be/a9OrsfsE0cI?t=7605 This is where the farce goes down.
  23. God, the WKF is so cruel. They brought the athletes back to the tatami to announce the result of the protest. I feel horrible for Lardy. The way this went down is just terrible. I can’t celebrate this at all.
  24. WKF confirmed the Canadian qualified. This sport is a real joke xD https://twitter.com/worldkarate_wkf/status/1404131810884440066?s=20
  25. I will never watch Karate again.
