  1. Exciting race, but in the end I think this podium really represents who was the strongest this season.
  2. I duno, as a neutral this is awesome entertainment.
  3. Random: I really love the relay bibs.
  4. Pretty bullish about the USA’s chance in the women’s skiathlon.
  5. This just feels like a real off game from Homan. Happens to everyone, it’s just really hard to watch when the opposition is playing almost perfectly.
  6. At the half is shellacking in mixed doubles. de Val is curling 100%, Homan is curling… much less than that.
  7. Homan has completely lost her touch with draws while de Val is curling literally 100%. This is painful.
  8. What’s the point of holding a qualification round when there are only 53 jumpers?
  9. Y'all are really due for Filip Zubčić to randomly rediscover his form from last year to win the GS.
  10. I know, I live in the US so I'm mostly streaming using Peacock. That's where I was watching the trial round.
  11. Ya it... takes a while to accept the scoring system. There's very few formal rules to how the scoring works because culturally that's how those sports evolved, there's been attempts to formalize it and it's always universally panned by the athletes. Each judge and judging panels have their own criteria, too, so there is inconsistencies from competition to competition (at the Olympics in snowboarding they seem to always heavily reward weird, rarely used lines), and feedback from the athletes themselves also affect that. But general rules is that the hardest run that looked easy and smooth wins. The big complication that is hard to wrap your head around even after watching a while is that "hardest" doesn't always means most spins or flips.
  12. I’d say it’s a pretty good result, especially after a really rough first run.
  13. I’m telling you y’all are missing out :P
  14. I get the sneaking suspicion that the Canadian team handled the pandemic better than anybody else. Apparently every player worked super hard on their individual weaknesses during lockdown and came back better than before to the team’s first post-pandemic training camp. I doubt most other teams had the resources to do that.
  15. They are actually broadcasting the trial round :O
  16. For anyone just checking out the results: don't be fooled by the low score, Kamilla Kozuback isn't another Elizabeth Swaney. She did actual tricks and is legit.
  17. legitimately has a long tradition in women's ice hockey. They finished fourth at the first Olympics and were continuously in the top division of the women's world championship from it's inception until 2008. Guo Hong was one of the great women's hockey players from the early years of the sport and you can make a reasonable case that she should be in the hockey hall of fame.
  18. She's the favourite, and nothing I've seen from qualifying indicates she isn't still the favourite, but I wouldn't queue up God Defend New Zealand just yet. There's a lot of good riders there, and there's no guarantee anyone will put down a full pull in the finals. Onitsuka probably not making the finals is a huge surprise.
  19. The level of riding is definitively much higher in the second run than the first run so far.
  20. The NBC stream was too busy running a fluff piece to show the number one run from Rukajarvi. Lame.
  21. Similar problem they had in Sochi and Pyeongchang - the course is too difficult for the women (this is a more difficult course than usual). I really don't think it can get worse than the complete farce that the Pyeongchang final was (that final was completely ruined by wind).
  22. Laurie Blouin is looking in medal winning form. She got a reasonably good qualifying run 1 score (should get her in the finals no problem) despite a few visible mistakes.
  23. Huge news from the Scotties: has beaten ! is now guaranteed at least third (they are in the 1-2 Page playoff game). Team Crawford is from my hometown, I’ve been to the curling club they curl out of.
  24. Rong had no interest in waiting for her score xD
  25. This course is an absolute work of art.
