  1. It's a FIFA thing specifically. It was like that in Qatar 2022 and Australia/NZ 2023, and presumably it will be like this in NA 2026 as well.
  2. Ya, eight gold medals is the point where I will personally consider these Olympics a success for Canada regardless of the details or where we end up on the medal table. Would be nice to be 11th again tho :P
  3. Agreed that is favourite to lead the medal table, that being said there is a decent chance two different countries end up winning the men's and women's event and no other medal.
  4. Ya, IMO the repechage is only just a way to fill up the morning sessions with more races. In that way I guess it did work? From a competitive standpoint it's a real bust.
  5. If Phil Wizzard wins gold there is a good chance this will be only the second summer sport where Canada leads the medal table xD
  6. realistically needs two more gold medals to stay past . They will win another Canoeing gold courtesy of Dame Lisa Carrington, and Lydia Ko is looking like the favourite to win women's golf (I would be reasonably happy with that outcome, medal standing implications asside, she would be a really worthy winner)
  7. One of me two rooting interests (along with Ayumi), glad she's doing well so far
  8. Ya, I find the breaking way too subjective to be a sport, but IMO it's at least entertaining. It's kinda fun to watch, and I've enjoyed watching some previous events. Don't want it in the Olympics, but I'm not that upset that it's here as a one time curriosity. Fully agree that the MCs are incredibly annoying xD
  9. The fencing Olympic champion from 1976 had a big sigh of relief when it saw the cape said “free Afghan women” and not “free Palestine” :P
  10. At this point I'm actually pretty bullish that we'll set non-boycott records for both gold medals and overall medals. Knock on wood. Dare I say it, matching the all time record of ten golds might still be possible.
  11. I actually think Charron’s silver here is a more impressive result than her gold in Tokyo. Either way, extremely proud of her.
  12. Obviously. Just pointing out that Skinner said worse things about a whole array of US Gymnasts than was said about her by said gymnasts, so it’s a little rich for her to ask for help from them now. Among the US women’s gymnasts she’s the bully. And it’s really inappropriate for her to ask for help from people she’s been nothing but disrespectful towards. Obviously she shouldn’t be subject to threats.
  13. If Skinner wants to get out of the hole the first thing she needs to do is stop digging.
  14. Rogers' gold medal is only the third ever women's gold medal won by in athletics, and the first one since Amsterdam 1928, the very first time women were allowed to compete in Athletics. Fanny Rosenfeld, Ethel Smith, Jane Bell, Myrtle Cook, Ethel Catherwood and Camryn Rogers.
  15. The dream of Marta winning a major title is still alive!
  16. So happy they added this sport to the Olympics and that they held the event in Teahupo’o. For me this is one of the best moment of the games, and one of the great Olympic moments period.
  17. Vaast! Gold for France and for Thaiti, in Thaiti. Could not have been a better outcome.
  18. A Thaitian winning Olympic gold at home would be absolutely magical.
  19. 8.17 on his second wave. Deserved scores. Robinson has a ton of work to do, he needs two near perfect waves now Edit: miscalculated, he can win with a ~9.8
