  1. Pretty sure the selectors' hands are tied on this one. Kerr is definitely in, so if two of Gourlay/Mills/Fogg finish 1-2 this weekend (or someone else does it and achieves the OQT), Wightman is out. It's just a really, really unfortunate situation. Wightman already has the OQT - for 1500m, Mile times also count.
  2. It's slightly selective (it's late and I'm tired!), but pool has 18 NOCs represented in the top 30 of its Men's world rankings, while darts has 7. Darts may be growing globally, but at the top end it's still dominated by GB plus a bit of Netherlands/Germany, while you could stage a pretty elite Olympic pool tournament right now with full continental representation, spread across a lot of NOCs. Would like to see darts get there though - and I agree that both sports would be more suitable than snooker.
  3. Pool over Darts for NOC range, I think. More in Asia and the Americas, certainly.
  4. Men's Rugby 7s team also safely through to the QF of the qualifying competition. Win it tomorrow and they're in.
  5. Sadly I think today's result means Jude Jones will finish in 7th, one shy of a quota place...
  6. She finished 14th, which looks like it means 27 points. If so, Deng Yawen would have to finish 4th or better, and Sun Jiaqi 8th or better, in order to pass her in the rankings. Good chance she won't make it, but far from a guarantee!
  7. This is a very helpful explanation, thanks! Do you have the same data available for Charlotte Worthington? Looking at it, she will effectively start the Final in 10th place (12th going in, but two of the 11 in front of her haven't made the Final), probably needing to overtake four athletes to secure a quota place (China have three in the top nine, and it's two riders per NOC). Where I get lost is how the remaining five places will get allocated after the qualifying event, based on the 2022/23 World Championships rankings, and whether actually GB&I are pretty much guaranteed a rider in the event either way!
  8. On the Skateboarding side, Sky Brown looks well set to take a quota place - topped the standings in Prelims, and already sits 11th in the Series standings, with 20 to qualify for the Games. Lola Tambling, who came into the Qualifying Event in 19th (but effectively 17th, with USA and Japan both having 4 athletes in the top 20), unfortunately didn't make the Semi Finals, which I imagine will end her chances.
  9. If Varley had pulled up trees at the World Championships last week, it might be a conversation. As it is, I can't see a world where they don't go with Bryson. Tbh, I sort of assumed that if Bryson's place had been in any doubt at all, she would've gone to the World Champs. Maybe there's another reason she wasn't selected, but I figured it was so the others could have a straight fight for the second place.
  10. Don't know what happened to Alastair Chalmers in Finland today, but safe to say he did NOT achieve the qualifying time!
  11. I'm not sure either decision *should* be tough. But it can be hard to say no to an Olympic legend, Waugh has some pretty strong credentials, and based on what I've heard, the plan was to announce the team several days ago...so yes, could all be nothing, or they could still be weighing things up!
  12. Outside(-outside!) chance of a medal for the Women's team?
  13. It feels like British Triathlon are really dragging their feet with the team announcement. Still feel like a straight fight between Dickinson and Jonny B on the Men's side (behind Yee), and between Coldwell and Waugh (behind Potter/GTB) on the Women's side?
  14. With two weeks left in the selection window, who else do you think has a realistic shot of achieving the qualifying time/distance? Of those who haven't yet made it, I'm keeping a particularly close eye on: Alastair Chalmers (400mH) Jake Norris (Hammer) Hannah Nuttall (5000m) Jade Lally (Discus) Would definitely be good to get some more Field athletes into the team!
