Ora l'Atalanta verrà probabilmente eliminata agli ottavi.

Plenty of moments, but while this one is fresh in my brain...

It was the audience singing the national anthem as they raised the  at the end of the men's Ice Hockey game earlier today.

Of course everyone knows about the divisiveness of American politics.  Here in the USA, we have so much fighting amongst ourselves, and the division is exhausting and at times worrisome.  Then, when you look abroad, I see the world looking at us, and much of what I hear is negativity towards us.  (This isn't unique to the current administration.)  That even includes being on forums like this one, whose aim is to celebrate Olympic sport and athletes from around the world as they compete in the Olympics, whose aim is to bring unity and good sportsmanship.

During the Olympics, it's a time where we in the USA come together.  Though half of my fellow Americans voted differently than I did, we all got to cheer when we scored that OT goal.  We all came together and sang our national anthem.  I don't know the hockey players at all.  They may have voted for our current president, or perhaps not.  Statistically, probably half of them did.  But that doesn't matter here.  We even have ads on TV right now saying "For two weeks, we all come together."

My country is more than its political leaders.  (I mean, half of Americans didn't even vote for our president.)  My country is full of beautiful stories, places, and people.  We have amazing athletes.  And when we win a gold medal, we celebrate.  Of course there are aspects of being an American that aren't good...but there's plenty to celebrate.  And I got to hear that audibly today.

When you on this forum see me and my fellow Americans celebrating a victory (whether that's in ice hockey or whatever random sport you don't care about), I hope what you see is us celebrating the accomplishments of our athletes.  I hope you don't see me as one who is promoting any political agenda.  (My political beliefs or who I voted for aren't relevant here.) I'm just a guy that likes to watch people from my country go out there and fight as hard as they can to win.  When we do, it's great, and I'll celebrate.  When we don't, I'll congratulate the victors and hope we can come back stronger next time.

This isn't a specific moment, but one thing I love most about international sport are the hugs that the athletes give each other after they finish.  They're competitors, and they each want to win...but ultimately, they just want to be their best and beat the best.  I love seeing the sportsmanship that is evident at most times.  So likewise, I hope we fans can be an extension of that Olympic spirit, promoting peace, excellence, and good sportsmanship as we all celebrate sport.

And yes, I also recognize there may be some who don't like it when America dominates certain sports.  I feel similarly when I see other countries dominating other areas.  I mean, besides the Germans, who didn't love it when the  sled came and stole bronze in the 4-man bob today?  I think back to the Athletics WCh when  randomly won a shot put medal, I think it was.  I love the underdog story, too, and I celebrate those moments.  Of course it stings if it's an underdog that beats , but again, congrats to the victor, and see you next time.

I think Compagnoni is one of the biggest talents in the history of alpine skiing (in a different universe where she didn't have all those the dramatic injuries, she'd probably be a GOAT candidate), but in terms of career achievements, I believe Brignone is above her at this point.

I never thought I'd see the day Italy had a 30-medal and 10-gold edition of the Winter Olympics, so there are probably too many to choose from.

Brignone winning the Super G, because to me that was the story of the Games from a human standpoint.

Lollobrigida winning the 3000 meters, because it was the most jaw-dropping performance for me, as everybody — herself included— was saying she had a very rough preparation for the Olympics.

The 1-2 in the men's skicross, because it was the one race in which I got to taste the excitement of gradually realizing that something unbelievable is about to happen. That's probably why the first moment that comes to mind when I think of that race is not the final, but the quarterfinal in which the Italians eliminated Howden.

If I have to choose just one moment, I'll go with those 3 hours on Sunday February 15th in which I saw Federico Pellegrino realize his dream of a relay medal, then Federica Brignone win the giant slalom, and finally Lisa Vittozzi win the first ever Italian gold in biathlon, with a silver medal in snowboard in the middle.

every single moment, from the opening ceremony to the end of today's hockey gold medal game (not watching the closing ceremony, just feeling to bad it's all over and I don't want to add more pain), wins or losses it doesn't matter

the only 2 notable exceptions: Lindsey Vonn and Kamila Sellier's injuries and the fuckin' idiot judging the men's races in the short track competitions

There were lots of good moments , this olympics felt so special (I am talking of WOG). The last time I really enjoyed viewing WOG was in Sochi & this tops it. So many feel good moments, very well attended event with spectators filling up stands & making an atmosphere. So many top performances, but for me the  women team dominating the Biathlon event was really special. All 3 of them were just so good & gave top performance. I love it how the female commentator pronounced  Lou Jeanmonnot  & finally grazie mille  we loved it! Thanks for making me fall in love with winter sports again

Yes. This was the best WOG since at least Sochi 2014. I only started paying attention to the Olympics after London 2012, so small sample size. But, this was the best WOG I can remember. European fans and atmosphere make everything better in my opinion.

Does anyone still fall for this? Maybe someone over 80 years for sure.
A couple of years ago (but after the war broke out) an old man (in his own admission he was 82) in a local bar tried to convince me that without Don Vittorio in the government, I would be already fighting in Eastern Ukraine
Needless to say, he was unsuccessful.

After the Dutch team won 23 out of a possible 32 Speed skating medals in 2014, some changes were made. In the 500, 1000 and 1500 metres the maximum number of skaters per country was reduced from 4 to 3, and in the 10 km from 3 to 2. Also the quotum was lowered from 10 to 9.

In the past the maximum number of swimmers per event per country was 3. This led on too many occasions to countries sweeping the podium.

So, time for a recap! Hopefully there's still someone in this thread.

First of all, these Olympics were spectacular from the very beginning. Ever since the opening ceremony kicked things off, I felt something big was happening. Such a global event and a celebration of sports couldn't have been set in a better location this year. It's great to have the winter edition in Europe once again. Wonderful sceneries and great venues just fueled the atmosphere. I really enjoyed switching from one event to another, admiring the landscapes, just like every other Olympics.

The mascots were amazing. They're so adorable. I'm not really an avid collector of Olympic memorabilia, but I feel like I have to get my hands on one of these plushies. Not saying the last mascot was bad, but these stoats are perfect in every sense. The opening sequence rocks, the tune has been stuck in my head for days, it's really catchy. It gives off this dramatic vibe while still keeping a classy coating.

Interesting medal table this year! Norway showed up once again. Honestly, Klæbo, you're mad. I'm pretty sure the guy would place in the top ten of the leaderboard if he competed by himself, absolute legend. Both the United States and France recorded their best ever campaigns, very impressive. Some other countries locked in as well, unfortunately, some did not.

That brings me to a more subjective review.

What do we have here? It's not really pleasant to look at, but that's something we all expected. The last Summer Olympics were supposed to be successful, we had plenty of medal hopes before the start. That one was a disappointing campaign. This time, it wasn't that surprising.

Just as expected, not a lot to be cheerful about. However, I always try to pick something positive. Even these Olympics brought us some successful and memorable stories. There's definitely stuff to go through:

Alpine skiing: This is one of the memorable stories. Petra's comeback is already a victory on its own. It's even more symbolic when you realise the slopes of the Italian Alps marked her return to competitive skiing. Not a disappointing finish from her at all, she even improved her result in the second slalom run. Biathlon: Now this is the sport I'm closely following during the entire year. Well, to say it was disappointing is an understatement. No individual finish in the top twenty is a disaster. No matter how we look at it, it's a failure, especially after all the promising things we've heard during the last few races, building up to the main part of the season. I'm not saying I expected medals, but the results are horrific from every angle. Paula not being able to shoot with less than three misses just sums up the hopelessness of Slovak biathlon in Antholz this year. The women's relay also didn't live up to the expectations. Disappointing. Figure skating: Adam Hagara is the first male competitor to reach the final round since Nagano. Very impressive. Despite not improving afterwards, it's a great debut for him. His time will definitely come, it will be interesting to watch him skate in four years from now. Ice hockey: Now this is where it gets interesting. Again, there wasn't much to expect from us at the Olympics this year compared to the past, but I definitely did not expect hockey to be our best shot at a medal. And what a ride it was! No matter how easy our path to the semifinal was compared to other teams, we rightfully earned it down to the last detail. Damn, winning a group with Sweden and Finland at the best tournament in twelve years feels like a dream. Absolutely surreal. If only we could change the outcome of the last weekend, it was disappointing, although definitely not as painful as Vancouver was, @hckošice definitely remembers that one better than me. In all seriousness, I'm glad we didn't disappoint, fourth place is a pleasant shock, something no one in Slovakia or outside the country predicted to happen. I suppose we know how to move the puck, we don't suck as much as we used to. Ski jumping: This is what I'm looking forward to. I know pretty much nothing about this sport outside of the basics, but Hektor Kapustík looks so promising. He's already reached several milestones of Slovak ski jumping in the last couple of months. I'm very excited to see what the future brings, he's definitely got the potential. I can picture myself watching him being a serious medal contender in a few years, the kid has wings. Ski mountaineering: I don't know, this whole sport was very anti-climatic. Not sure if it's because of the events happening almost at the end, the execution being pretty disappointing, or our athletes being unlucky, that's a Slovak classic. Just as I thought, we could have had a serious medal contender in the women's event if it wasn't for snow getting in the way. Stuff happens.
Other sports didn't really stand out.

There should be a big warning sign coming out of these Olympics for Slovakia. The brightest of our hopes did not come from a working state-sponsored system of support. They had to rely on their families and self-sacrifice plenty of times. There's not much support for young talents, nepotism and corruption are prioritised instead. I know that's something happening not only in Slovakia. Many countries suffer because of this, but it's still not something to be proud of.

To end with something more positive, our hockey future is so bright and I'm really excited to watch these young guys improving as time goes by. We've had the youngest squad on average, many of those players are eligible for multiple Olympic tournaments, including the World Championships we're hosting in three years. If these players are already the core of the team in their early twenties, we can only imagine how much glory they can bring in a few years. Finally, it looks like Slovak hockey is not getting worse. Let's keep it that way.

Prima vittoria Hockey femminile (4-1 Francia /Ice Hockey arena Santagiulia) Oro staffetta maschile nello speed skating  (Speed Skating Stadium/ Rho fiera) Bronzo staffetta maschile nello short track (Ice Skating Arena/ Assago forum)

It seems to me that Finland, since the doping scandal in the winter sports in World Championship in Lahti 2001, has gradually begun to reduce its spending on sports. They used to be the biggest powerhouse in ski jumping, but now they can't even win a single medal. Hockey is certainly well-funded there, but it's only one or two medals, and you can't always win gold.
