You want some real Mexican telenovela drama?
Well, it turns out that our team qualified two competitors for the Women's final, Mariana Arceo & Tamara Vega. Either one could surprise and get a direct ticket, just like Emiliano Hernandez did last year, but also they're in direct competition for a spot via ranking, with Arceo having a decent advantage against Vega.
Anyway, some time ago, Vega disclosed that she was the victim of grooming & sexual violence by his former coach Sergio Escalante (himself a former Olympian) and as a result, a criminal case was filed against him, with resulted in his exclusion at competitions by both the national federation and UIPM.
However, at last year's World Championships, Escalante (who had been acting behind the scenes as Arceo's coach) found his way into the athletes lodging and is claimed that when Mexican delegation found out, they asked security to escort him out, which caused an outburst from Arceo who immediately went wild and accused Vega of orchestrating the whole thing, even going as far as to make death threats to Vega.
So, of course, competition tomorrow between those two will be personal, even more because our NOC has already nominated Mayan Oliver as part of the Olympic team (a quota she gained at the PanAm Games) and thus, they are not likely to change their mind and reject the continental quota, even if both competitors could qualify via ranking.
