  1. The only race that really matters this week is the men's 4x100m relay - we need the team to post a time that will put them in to the top 16 and get the quota. Anything beyond that will be regarded as a bonus by British Swimming.
  2. Decidedly meh kind of performance from all of the men - Kye Whyte doesn't make it out of the 1/8 finals and the rest of them drop out in the 1/4 finals. They're going to lose a lot of ground to and it looks like they could drop behind . British women faring better - Shriver safely through to semi-final of elite event but so too Sakakibara and Reynolds of . Emily Hutt in the final of the under-23s
  3. Entry list for stage 1 - Rotorua, New Zealand are available. 2024.01.31_-_Rider_Entry_List.pdf (ctfassets.net) In terms of Olympic quotas, on the men's side, and are nailed on for 3 quotas. will get 2. That leaves two more nations who will get 2 quotas and the fight is between & who are separated by 100 points. On the women's side, the main focus from Olympic quota perspective will be between and - and really that comes down to the fight between Saya Sakakibara and Bethany Shriever.
  4. aren't currently in a qualifying spot for Mountain bike (currently 27th) so think we can safely discount Van der Poel.
  5. is a strange one - I can only assume one of the pairing picked up an injury - but I can't find any reference to what the issue was. In terms of SA accepting the quota, I haven't found their selection document but did find a media article with an interview of Strugnell and Hayes-Hill which said "The qualification process ahead of the final selection by SA Swimming is extremely demanding - it requires swimmers to compete 3 times in a very short season. These competitions were scheduled for December, February and March. I assume the February competition refers to the World Champs, but not sure what the December and March one referred to. There was also an article from November of last year which suggested that Swimming South Africa had imposed harsher qualifying standards for Paris across water polo, open water swimming and artistic swimming so it wouldn't surprise me if they do reject it.
  6. New Zealand have changed their selection policy for Paris to allow a duet to be selected if they believe that they are capable of a top 8 finish in Los Angeles '28. Not sure if it will make any difference to their decision though.
  7. I don't find it very viewer friendly and I rely on the commentators to make sense of what is going on. If we look at last year's WC results, scored 504.6579 across the 2 events. scored 523.4667 and scored combined 495.97. As the teams have gotten more comfortable with the new points code the teams seem to be scoring better - scored combined 516.8213 this year.
  8. I agree - I can't see any nation taking more than 10-12 athletes. I haven't run a full projection because we don't have the last 2 events complete, but at the moment my tracker for likely quotas is looking something like this: Men's 3m springboard - 27 athletes in total Men's 10m platform - 22 athletes in total Women's 3m springboard - 24 athletes in total Women's 10m platform - 26 athletes in total That's 99 individual quotas which would allow the following quota reallocation: Men's 3m springboard - currently 20 athletes in the individual event so should have 7 additional quotas available. Men's 10m platform - currently 15 athletes in the individual event allowing 10 additional quotas. Women's 3m springboard - 14 athletes in the individual event so potentially 13 additional quotas available. Women's 10m platform - 19 athletes in the individual event so should allow an additional 7 quotas for reallocation. If that was the case, would potentially gain quotas in the men's 3m springboard. In the women's 10m platform, would stand to gain a quota.
  9. The duet field in Doha wasn't as strong as it will be in Paris - there were no Austrians, Japanese or Americans so it's difficult to read too much into it. That being said, I'd say that they should very much be in the mix for the minor medals.
  10. No - but that's primarily because they aren't separate events in the Olympics.
  11. So, I will just throw a slight note of caution here because I think our diving team is actually a step or two behind what they achieved last year - at least in the Olympic classes. In Fukuoka, we won 3 silver medals. In Doha, with 2 more Olympic events to go, are sitting with 1 silver and 3 bronze and some of our biggest medal prospects haven't been at their best. On the upside, where they've needed to, they have done to secure the quotas for Paris.
  12. Jinxed it - scores drop to 6.5 in the final round. Still done enough for the quota though.
  13. Whenever BBC Scotland cover domestic curling, it is always done on a shoestring budget. It really is cringe worthy.
  14. With 1 round to go, and should be pretty safe for a quota. The other 2 should be shared between or .
  15. Hopefully this won't be a jinx, but Tom Daley hasn't scored less than 8.5 from any judge across his 5 rounds of dives. Safe to say he is well and truly back
  16. Halfway through the men's 10m synchro: 189.48 - Down 18 points on 2023 score. 187.08 - Up 11 points on 2023 score. 177.12 - 167.17 - Up 4 points. 165.12 - Down 9 points. 164.70 - Up 57 points. 160.44 159.84 - Down 12 points. Currently quotas for but long way to go.
  17. I think they were referring to the fact that there was no continental quota for Europe in the team event as opposed to continental quota for the duet which as you say went to Austria.
  18. The 1st Boxing Qualifier is now scheduled to start on 3rd March instead of 4th March. The extra day has been added due to high volume of entries.
  19. Entry list won't be confirmed until the Boxing Entries Check is performed 1st Mar.
  20. 668 athletes have registered for the tournament - obviously way more than they expected as they have had to put in an extra day of competition. No are taking part but there are 2 in these initial numbers. Final entries to be confirmed 1st March.
  21. And what about the individual spots? Will Bouyer and Bisch be selected as they won the quotas?
  22. Looking at the men's 3m springboard competition, I think we are probably sitting at between 24-27 quotas: I think it is likely that will end up taking 3 athletes in the 3m events. Wang Zongyuan is pretty much nailed on to do both synchro and individual, whilst Siyi Xie is likely to be favourite to get the nod for the second individual spot. The only question then is whether Xie doubles up in the synchro but given Zongyuan and Daoyi are well established pairing, I can see the team replicating their 2012 and 2016 approach and taking 3 athletes. For , Joules Bouyer and Alexis Jandard will likely take the synchro spot and I'd be 90%+ certain that Bouyer will also be in the individual. When it comes to the second spot, Jandard will need to fight it out against Bisch. With , we have our established synchro pairing of Laugher and Harding and that won't change as we go forward to Paris. Laugher is also likely to take one of the individual spots. Competition for the second individual spot will probably be among the most intense in the diving squad with at least 3-4 names very much in the mix. At this point, I'd say it is more likely than not that we will use 3 quotas in this event. Finally, for , the depth of their squad always makes it difficult to guess what their team will look like but again, I think it is likely they'll end up with 3 athletes on springboard. I don't think we should read too much into their results from Doha - they already had the full set of quotas from Fukuoka so didn't really need to peak for this week.
