  1. Oh yeah, I forgot about that too. Yeah, just a complete mishit by IOC when trying to attract new fanbase for whatever reason. I don't see this event having any sort of staying power since in Paris we'll probably see more 13 year old kids.
  2. They probably knew the decision would be unpopular no matter whom they chose so they tried to delay it until the last possible moment. I can understand that logic.
  3. I don't hear a lot of positives about the skateboarding. Hey, who ever thought that adults actually will NOT get excited with random kids competing at the Olympics. I'm sure those medals won by 13 year olds look record-breaking on paper but why give this event an Olympic status? How many 14-15 year olds kids over the world will actually turn on the TV to specifically watch this? Because it sure looks like the adults have better things to follow at the Games. Coyping of the slopestyle in summer version doesn't work for one reason. At the winter Games usually the same nations dominate the events. At the summer games every nation has something to cheer for w/o having to add anything new. IOC struck out swinging with the skateboarding, I wonder how long appeasing of the 13 year old kids lasts?
  4. Paula Badosa played a high-class match. This was a deserved win in the end.
  5. Nora Gjakova in the final. Yoshida is the first who underperforms.
  6. Yes, I consider Kowalczyk as our best judoka here and I'd be shocked if someone else equals her result
  7. Tough loss for Kowalczyk in golden score. 7th place it is.
  8. Julia Kowalczyk will be in the repechages despite having a horrendous draw. That's a small success already, she beat Karakas & Monteiro and lost to Klimkait.
  9. beats 83-76. This second ass US team really needs to be stopped hyping as runaway favorites by default.
  10. This is why having someone so dominant as Biles covers the lack of depth problem. This "team" is Biles and bunch of sidekicks. If USA don't develop another world class gymnast soon they will be up for a rude awakening in Paris (I presume Biles won't go there anymore). The US men have tailed off in recent years and women might be heading down the same path since gymnastics as a sport got a lot of bad press after the Nassar scandal. I imagine not many parents would like to send their kids on the gymnastics grind these days - far less than 15-20 years ago IMO.
  11. This is the post-Dream Team era reality. USA won't win every game by 25 points fielding mostly second-tier players anymore.
  12. I have a feeling taekwondo is a young man's sport? Some real youngsters winning medals in this event.
  13. wins it with 6 seconds left!
  14. They are siblings
  15. So Cannone was the guy w/o a wikipedia page? He leads 14-9
  16. Amgad Abd El-Halim Khazbak It seems like most US fencers are coached by foreign coaches. I still remember the Mariel Zagunis craze who was coached by Edward Korfanty.
  17. Neah, it's alright. Modern cyclists are so used to radio-controlled races it's always welcome there's one race where you have to do it on your own. Old school rules! It's the same with lack of pacemakers in athletics.
  18. Lee Kiefer wins 15-13! Well done. She is very easy on the eye indeed
  19. Kiefer led 12-9 but it's 12-12 now.
  20. The bet contest with Japan winning 7+ medals in judo should have 100% of YES turnout
  21. It's funny, Polish ES crew with 100 km left said the women can't let a breakaway reach 10 mins. wins gold in Summer Games? That must be a huge upset no matter if Kiesenhofer is a complete nobody. Polish media quoted Anna vd Breggen who apparently said she doesn't even know who Kiesenhofer is
  22. Camila Giorgi is still IN
  23. and into Women's Four final.
  24. So Hurkacz plays Saville now.
