  1. Likewise Trampoline gymnastics. The goal for Paris: get over 30 comments In athletics the Barshim/Tamberi/Jacobs gold combo got like 30+ comments in less than 10 minutes
  2. Even if the posts are negative (see my sport climbing format comments) it actually shows interest (i.e. how to make things better). It's rather clear women's 3x3 basketball was the least followed sport on TO Men's 3x3 escaped that fate due to a) lack of USA b) bitching about Poland's failure
  4. Well, the Spanish walker Tur was still in 3rd place one minute before the finish. That's the ultimate killer in an event that lasts 3 hours and 50 minutes! Kinda sums up the OG performance.
  5. Four months after my previous post here and sure enough, we keep getting those wild cards again Handball is truly an European-centric sport! Also congrats to Slovakia, that seems like a completely random choice picked out of the hat
  6. It's obvious he did that on purpose. We're not in court so the word "appears" is moot.
  7. The limits were there before anyway so no country could field athletes in all weight classes. Imagine if IOC told Japan they can't field an athlete in every judo category? As usual, double standards is king
  8. Baseball didn't even have 8 nations competing like before and it doesn't even hold World Championship that anyone cares about (even Baseball Classic is basically like U23 football tournament?). Weightlifting has opened up to South America lately and has a much bigger global appeal while baseball is only limited to USA, Japan, Korea & minor Caribbean countries plus maybe Mexico. That's it. Since most baseball fans pay attention to MLB they couldn't be bothered to lobby for the Olympic status of the sport IMO.
  9. This is more like a blackmail from IOC and they won't scratch weightlifting from the programme mainly because China is so dominant here. Scaling back on boxing and threatening to drop wrestling carried more value since China isn't so good in both (and actually they have some presence in women's boxing which makes the women boxing category expansion even more understandable). Any cuts in sports where USA and China are good at simply won't happen IMO.
  10. First post in this thread after three weeks! The power of the Olympics!
  11. Closing ceremonies are usually underwhelming since everyone is more or less exhausted after those two weeks
  12. Biggest surprise in Top 10 is finishing ahead of and I suppose the boost in rowing made that possible.
  13. Kamila Licwinko (high jump) announced she will retire at the end of the season.
  14. Three straight attacks out for to start the tie-break
  15. was one of my favorites for winning most medals w/o gold Their boxing seems a little off lately.
  16. beats 2-1 after extra time! I suppose Dani Alves can really retire now?
  17. It sure changes over time here as well. Poland used to be a powerhouse in boxing & weightlifting and we completely suck in these sports these days (especially in the former, no boxing medals since 1992). Our wrestling has seen better days too. I assume cold weather limits the potential for outdoor sports in Canada? I guess your summer months aren't very long or too warm either?
  18. I don't know if Dunfee is deemed as controversial back home (like anyone would even care about race walking in Canada?) but Robert Korzeniowski called him one of the most likeable walkers around
  19. Canada doesn't stand much of a chance to becoming a force in men's football. What is the most successful Olympic sport for Canada at SOG outside of athletics anyway? I have a hard time recalling anything in particular
  20. I assume that's because 90% of Canadian men seek a career in ice hockey?
  21. Ngapeth will be unbereable if France wins this. He was unbereable for years already
  22. That's it for at the Olympics. We won 14 medals overall - tying the Sydney 2000 haul. 9 medals is the most we've ever won in athletics at OG too (previous best was 8 in... Tokyo 1964 ). Our most successful OG athletics in medal quality was 4-0-0 in Sydney where we also swept the hammer and Korzeniowski won two golds in race walking. Fast forward 21 years and we swept the hammer again and won 50k walk too. These are our most successful SOG in XXI century (4-5-5) beating Beijing 2008 (4-5-2). Party time!!!
