  1. Italy didn't win a game in group stage in 1982 World Cup and still won the title Expansion to 32 teams will make the group stage even more boring IMO.
  2. This threatens we'll have 8 groups with two clear favorites and 3/4 of the matches in group stage will be one-sided nonsense if we get for instance England, Portugal, Albania & N.Macedonia. And that won't trigger any "urgency" either so we're back to square one.
  3. I believe Croatia has simply gotten old. Not enough youngsters breaking trough - unlike England. Vrsaljko is basically Trippier's backup at Atletico? 2018 WC was your high-water mark for this generation IMO.
  4. England wins 1-0. The winner of this group plays either or in Round 16 so Croatia might not be all that upset
  5. England started like a house on fire and hit the post in 5th minute but things have settled down now.
  6. Krejcikova/Siniakova win women's doubles 64 62. Krejcikova becomes first player since Mary Pierce in 2000 to win RG in both singles & doubles. Also first player not named Williams to win GS singles/doubles at the same tournament in XXI century.
  7. England actually missed some tournaments over the years, they downright sucked at others and they only drew 1-1 vs Switzerland in the home 1996 opener.
  8. Kvitova should be #1 Wimbledon favorite but she's very incosistent in the last few years. And I have no idea why Pliskova never reached QF there given her serve potential. That's a real head-scratcher for me and she's kinda past-prime already.
  9. There are very few clay speciallists in the women's game these days. And basically all of them are second-tier players who don't have a shot at winning GS anyway. Sharapova became a force on clay after years of being the "cow on ice" by her own accounts, RG was Serena's worst slam forever so she was never a clay speciallist to begin with, quite the contrary given mobility was never her strong suit. Simon Halep should be the next Henin but she's finding ways to lose matches Henin never would have. Myskina was basically a more elegant & leaner version of Kuznetsova. Very accomplished player in the early/mid 00s. People don't remember her much anymore since she retired early with a chronic ankle injury.
  10. Hey, we couldn't beat Russia last week Admittedly we played our B squad
  11. Cherchesov takes no prisoners. Cheryshev who came in the 29th minute is off in the 63rd
  12. Shot map for Denmark vs Finland (Hradecky obviously Man of the Match):
  13. They will be affected for the rest of the tournament anyway IMO.
  14. Lukaku scores after a huge blunder from Semyonov.
  15. Pohjanpalo scores! Literally the first shot Finland had!
  16. I bet he had medical checks before the tournament. And you don't really expect a heart attack around age 30-ish unless there is some undisclosed condition or outside influence like steroids. My uncle who didn't smoke had a heart attack at age 34 for instance. Granted it was in the 70s.
  17. Doctors probably won't let him resume his career anyway. And I'm not even talking about his wife/partner.
  18. Heart is a basically a muscle. You can't really prevent a heart attack.
