  3. I have it from direct good sources that World Taekwondo in its infinite wisdom has published rankings named "June 2024 Used for Paris 2024 Seeding" which will in fact NOT be used for the seeding because they contain some miscomputations in the automated system used to refresh rankings. You can spot the incosistencies by clicking on a given athlete page and search from the dropdown menu the month of June 2024, you will notice some of the rankings differ from those published under "June 2024 Used for Paris 2024 Seeding". And between the two the correct ones are the ones shown in the athlete pages. I have recomputed the seeds for the categories with Italians and I am 95% confident they will be used for the actual draw. 58kg M 1 Jendoubi 2 Vicente 3 Dell’Aquila 4 Ravet (host seed) 5 Park 6 Salim 7 Wooley 8 Lewis 9 Issaka 10 Magomedov 11 Guzman 12 Granado 13 Gurtsiev 14 Ababarikov 15 Ismail 16 Diop 17 Korneev 18 Tiran This is actually better for Dell'Aquila which will avoid facing a first match with a fighter that already had their first fight, which in most people's opinion is a bit of a disadvantage. 80kg M 1 Alessio 2 Nicholas 3 Eissa 4 Seo 5 El Shaarabty 6 Katoussi 7 Takov 8 Barkhodari 9 Jaysunov 10 Sawadogo 11 Sejranovic 12 Marques 13 Churchill 14 Hrnic 15 Mansouri 16 Coulibaly 17 Toleugali Here the only difference from the rankings published above is BUR and AUS flip-flopping positions 49kg F 1 Wongpattanakit 2 Cerezo 3 Dincel 4 Stojkovic 5 Souza 6 Guo 7 Nematzadeh 8 Semberg 9 Abutaleb 10 Tau 11 Pouryounes 12 Dhari 13 Kafadar 14 Matonti 15 Grippoli 16 Da Silva 17 El-Bouchti Here Souza and Guo exchange positions (quite relevant for the bracket) and El-Bouchti is confirmed to be #17 unless WT pulls something funny at the last moment. The big loser is Panipak which will fight her first round against a top 6 opponent who will also have the benefit to have a previous fight with a sparring partner from Timor-Leste to warm up.
  6. I think there is the same issue for 49kg W where El-Bouchti has been reallocated a quota via 57kg ranking (not sure why BTW). She does not have a ranking in thr 49kg so will she be #17 of the seed or will they consider the ranking points from the 57kg ranking to place her somewhere in the 49kg ranking and seed her accordingly? The situation is different from Stolbova because in her case the rankings are the reason why she received quota so to simply ignore her ranking would be weird.
  7. Do we know how the wrestiling draw will be established? Will they hold a draw or go by seeding? And, if so, what kind of seeding, ranking-based? I have been trying to find information about this on the UWW but couldn't find anything
  8. I was looking into taekwondo rankings. This appears to be the ranking (end of June) they will use for seeding: https://worldtkd.simplycompete.com/playerRankingV2?limit=25&pageNo=1&month=6&year=2024&rankingCategoryId=11ea9376-9371-e3ef-aefb-0af9674366aa&subCategory1=11ea9376-4530-2b19-aefb-0af9674366aa&rankingTypeId=11ea9376-1b54-af01-aefb-0af9674366aa I understand that the French athletes when present will be ranked at least 4th (but can be ranked higher if they have a higher ranking than 4th). Anyone willing to take a look and see if the seeding I derived for the 58kg makes sense? 1 Jendoubi 2 Dell’Aquila 3 Vicente 4 Ravet (host seed) 5 Park 6 Salim 7 Wooley 8 Lewis 9 Issaka 10 Magomedov 11 Guzman 12 Granado 13 Ismail 14 Gurtsiev 15 Ababarikov 16 Diop 17 Korneev 18 Tiran

  14. I see China winning 3 gold medals in short track (quite volatile sport to count on) and 3 gold medals in freestyle skiing. They will struggle to go beyond 6 gold medals. They do have limited opportunities in snowboard and speed skating but even considering some upside in those sports more than 6 is stiil quite hard for them to achieve. Overall they should win around 18 medals, which is double the total they won in 2019. That's already quite the home advantage boost. I get the point about favourable judges but it is not enough to move the needle, maybe it could help the total tally in the Short Track events but elsewhere I do not see judging being of much help. For example, Wenjing/Cong could get some favourable scores in the pairs' figure skating competition but in my opinion not enough to beat all three Russian couples.
