Open Water Swimming FINA Marathon Swim World Series 2020

not the best opener for the Italian swimmers...all of our main specialists were not ready to face the hard fight of the final meters and got only average placings...

Arianna Bridi, who missed out on the Olympic qualification and has the world cup success as her main target of the season was just edged out by the 3 girls on the podium in the final sprint finishing 4th, meanwhile Rachele Bruni, our only Olympic weapon in the women's event, finished 6th, 3 secs behind the girls who made the podium...

among the men, Paltrinieri couldn't resist the final forcing by Olivier and the 2 German guys and ended up only 5th, 14 secs behind the winner...

our other Olympic hope, Mario Sanzullo, ended up in the middle of the main group, 20th place, about 20 secs behind Olivier...

p.s. now I'm curious to see how much time it takes FINA to update their website with the full results...:thumbdown:

At last this time we already know all the results and we don't need FINA :p

    • poir Madsen had a very unlucky debut at the CWC he seriously injured himself (dislocated shoulder and possible concussion) in an attempt to save a boundary in the very early stages of Today' match vs Scotland   moreover, Italy lost badly against the Scots, allowing them to score 207 runs in the 1st innings (it took 14 overs to get the 1st wicket) and going well short chasing that score (we immediately saw that today wasn't the day when our lead batsman went out at the very 1st ball thanks to an amazing but improbable catch by a Scottish fielder)   in all this, a couple of highlights to be recorded: Hasan Ali with a very efficient bowling performance (5.25 economy, 1 wicket) and Harry Manenti with good 52 runs in just over 30 balls with the bat
    • The Italian team has already achieved a better result than the Chinese team in 2022 at home. The Italian team has made enormous progress since 2023, when we were still losing to Korea and Poland. Of course, this is mainly due to naturalizations, but China did the same. It's one of the few sports that have made significant progress before these Olympics and this is how it should be in most disciplines at home games.
