Team Jacobs win this years Brier, defeating Team Dunstone 5-3. Undefeated in round robin, lost the page 1/2 qualifier, then ratted off four straight wins for the title.
Jacobs with his first Brier title in 12 years.
Just caught up with this, so won't spoil it for everyone, but would you believe that in the two-man today there was still a dead heat going into the very final curve on the fourth run?
Coincidentally today I overheard Kevin Bolger talk with someone about it, they were all pretty disappointed at seeing the tiny start list today and felt they should speak with the athletes about whether or not they actually wanted a 50k.
I also heard him talk about the insane noise around the track yesterday, he said it felt like his ears were popping constantly and that Maja Dahlqvist's first words to him this morning were "I'm scared"
Miserable championships for Diggins by the way, damn. She was walking and running around super pumped before the 50k, then was dropped immediately and had no chance to ever get anywhere near a decent result. Kept going, dropped back further and made a bit of a show to thank people at the finish, but simply collapsed into tears after the finish. Not even anywhere near the individual medals in the entirety of Trondheim 2025.
Awesome to see Sophia Velicer finish today and avoid being lapped, my throat is still sore from yelling "Let's go Sophia!" at the top of my lungs every single time she passed by
The three remaining World Cups: Oslo next week (20k interval classic + 10k interval freestyle), Tallinn a few days later (freestyle sprint) and the weekend after that the finals in Lahti (freestyle individual + team sprint and a 50k classic). At least in the women's standings Lithuania should definitely be safe inside the top-30 and therefore with a second spot at the Olympics. Realistically only Armenia might pass them and that depends entirely on whether or not Katya Galstyan will do those World Cups.
Lithuanian men are 30th right now, but in the men's field I'm significantly less informed and don't really dare say if there's any danger from behind.
