Basketball - M - USA.

I wonder who would get a spot in an all-time Dream Team. This question is good for a new thread, I guess.

2. SRB 3. ARG

Honorary mentions for CRO & LTU. But in this event I consider SRB as a YUG and RUS as USSR teams from the past, many Croatian and Lithuanian players were in the gold medals teams, but they were not majority there, if I counted well.

Basketball - W - USA.

2. RUS

3. AUS - tough choice for 3rd, choosing from Olympic silver medalists, but AUS won silver more than once.

Handball - M - ..........CRO

Why?

Rules here are: who would have won?

That doesn't necessary mean we choose GOAT in each event.

So here FRA looks better on paper.

And I cheer for FRA usually.

But in my imaginary olympics it will be a final for ages, CRO will win it in overtime, showing their strength against probably better opponent.

So I pick CRO just for the fun of it.

1. CRO 2. FRA 3. DEN winning against GER in overtime as well

Water Polo - M - HUN

I went to water polo junior men's game in Eger once and I have seen how passionate people are there about this sport. I knew they are before but I didn't know they are passionate so much.

And 1956 HUN water polo team will probably always be on our minds here in Eastern (or Central - whatever you'd like to call it) Europe.

So 1. HUN 2. CRO 3. ITA

btw, RUS will not make it to last 4, HUN will beat them in QFs :-P

(in overtime, ofc)

Next poll in 2 weeks time. Stay tuned.

Basketball, men's Tournament...that's a no brainer like no other...:USA USA was, is and will be always on another planet when it comes to basketball.

Basketball, women's Tournament for Gold...once again, there's no other choice than :USA USA.

Basketball, women's Tournament for Bronze...in this case I pick :ESP Spain because their golden generation is probably the best non-US team ever.

Handball, men's Tournament...despite all of my personal bias towards the great Jugoslavija of the Eighties and Croatia in between the Nineties and the early 2000's, I just can't pick the golden generation of :FRA France as the obvious pick.

Waterpolo, men's tournament...here I have to ignore my personal bias, but tbh :HUN Hungary must be an obvious pick, as they produced so many unbelievably good teams (those with Tibor Benedek in the pool were just a pleasure to watch), even if the Serbian masters of the last 10 years can't be ignored as well.

Basketball, men's Tournament. Since there's no option to vote for the :GBR team that won a demonstration event between European YMCA teams in 1924 I think I might have for vote for :USA ;)

Basketball, women's Tournament for Gold. Oh say can you see, by the dawn's early light... :USA

Basketball, women's Tournament for Bronze.  Tempted for vote for the USA again.  But this time  :AUS

Handball, men's Tournament.  Vive la :FRA

Waterpolo, men's tournament.  1956 :HUN

    • We have much more events and there may be no Russia in 2026 so most of the NOCs should improve. But not Poland i’m afraid
    • I’ve had 2weeks long Olympic holidays each time since i graduated from the university in ancient times of year 2003   Both winter and summer. Always.   i had those olympic holidays in every job contract 😉
    • For sure better for  one silver - I think it was Shelly Rudman, Skeleton.  Can definitely improve on that.   Still remember it as a good games, though - think it was the first time I took two weeks off work to watch a Winter Games.

    • As a Montreal Canadien fan, I am in agreement. However, he is struggling recently and is demoted to the 4th line this week. Hoping he can turn it around.
    • I read now that Valentina Rodini will be in the new team of Tizzano + Galtarossa and Martini. I was probably in such an information bubble on Instagram that I thought that only Abbagnale was running a campaign and had a team of people around him. That's why I was surprised by his defeat + the fact that, for example, Rodini supports his rival. But as I wrote, for me the change in the general coach position is a plus. We need a new opening and a new impulse: Cattaneo had his best results in Tokyo and then he only explained that his rowers were running away abroad to the USA to study and that's why he had worse results. Ok, except that it's the same in Romania and Greece but they results are comparable or better. It's obvious that no one here will make the UK or the Netherlands, because we don't have such resources and money but I think we can repeat the Romanian results (2 gold - 3 silver in Paris) and that will be a much better result than the 2 silver in this year.
