phelps 7,429 Posted September 8, 2019 #134 Share Posted September 8, 2019 as expected, Japan totally dominated the field in their home K1PL stage... meanwhile, among the other Nations, we had the usual very balanced spread of medals... today wasn't a good day for Italy at all... after Bottaro very close win over Ono in the women's Kata bronze medal match, first Semeraro threw away a bronze medal, losing in a very stupid and inaccurate way to the Chinese Gong (however, with Zaretska's win, it doesn't change anything in Olympic perspective...unless a real miracle happen, she has to rely only on the continental spot, if she wants to avoid the risk of the final OQT next year...I think she doesn't have any chance anymore to make the Olympics through the OQR), then Ferracuti lost badly to Uekusa (even if it was expected, it's always painful to watch a girl having such a poor outing as Clio did earlier today) and Crescenzo couldn't do anything against his nemesis, Assadilov...when he faces this Kazakh guy, he's absolutely clueless...the Asian is faster and stronger (and today he was also smarter) under any aspect of the game... phelps 7,429 Posted October 4, 2019 #136 Share Posted October 4, 2019 results not as good as they might look at a first view for Italy... Luigi Busà, in fact, wasted a big chance to make the final, perpetuating the Italian jinx against the Kazakh fighters (also his sister Lorena lost to Serikova in the repechage round of the women's -55kg)... meanwhile Angelo Crescenzo lost to Pavlov underperforming once again against people he should beat blindfolded...and to increase the size of this disaster, Samdan is again in the big final, which he's going to win easily... at this pace, soon the Turkish guy will overtake Crescenzo in the OQR and Italy will lose one of their spot at the Olympics (and one of the few medal chances we have), as Assadilov is also among the safe top 3 round after round and keeps his advantage over the Italian in the OQR... finally, in the women's -55kg, Sara Cardin's struggle continues...since her injury of last year, she's not anymore the same "machine" she used to be...and it's unlikely that she will be able to qualify at the final tournament if she does not find her old shape and skills... phelps 7,429 Posted October 5, 2019 #138 Share Posted October 5, 2019 not a day to remember for Italy...all of our guys going out early, except for Ferracuti (eventually 7th in the women's +68kg) and Semeraro, who for the 3rd time in a row lost to Gong Li in the final moments of a high scoring match that actually ended with tied score, only because of Senshu... so, she has to settle for the bronze medal match once again... MHSN 3,403 Posted October 5, 2019 #139 Share Posted October 5, 2019 Iran usually win a good number of medals in this k1 PL events but mostly by different athletes and that doesn't help the Olympic qualification but this K1 event in Moscow was almost perfect. we had 7 athletes close to the Qualification zone and all 7 of them (and nobody else from Iran) made it to the medal round 4 for gold and 3 for bronze. Poursheib (84) and Ganjzadeh (+84) will continue their battle with each other for the Olympic spot at +75kg, they both reached the final, Askari at 75kg lost to Aghayev in last 2 seconds, still that will be enough to send him to the top of the ranking. even though he is not in his best shape recently. for the women's side, Bahmanyar will have her 2nd K1 PL final in a row, with two back to back final (and maybe 2 golds) she is already in top 2 of her weight (and top 4 for her Olympic weight) she will surpass Khaksar for now. Khaksar herself has a chance to win the bronze. even though making into top 2 at 50kg looks easier than 55kg. Rozi Alipour being in the final was surprising, she is still something like 600pts away from the top 4 but she is now the best ranked Asian female athlete. (outside of top 4) the only disappointment was Abbasali. she lost once again to her archrival Uekusa of Japan. still a bronze will keep her in top 2 (of +68kg) but there are 3-4 athletes right next to her. MHSN 3,403 Posted October 5, 2019 #140 Share Posted October 5, 2019 (edited) 1 hour ago, phelps said: not a day to remember for Italy...all of our guys going out early, except for Ferracuti (eventually 7th in the women's +68kg) and Semeraro, who for the 3rd time in a row lost to Gong Li in the final moments of a high scoring match that actually ended with tied score, only because of Senshu... so, she has to settle for the bronze medal match once again... You know for some reasons that match was also "somehow" important for Iran if I remember correctly she didn't lost by Senshou. the Chinese received a caution in last 15 seconds (which annuls the Senshou) she lost by "Hantei" this qualification system makes things a bit weird. some results in other weights help you in another weight !!! for example I want Semeraro to win and Ferracuti to lose (sorry I like all Italian athletes, this is not personal I'm sure you know why ) and beside that it was important for Iran to keep the best ranked Asian athlete. Gong going to the final and probably winning the gold is not a good news for that . another funny thing is I realized there is a chance for Iran to even qualify at 67kg ! how ? we simply have to hope Oceania and America qualify their continental quotas at 75kg (there is an Uzbek athlete in top 10) in that case our 67kg athlete only needs 500-600 pts to catch up 60kg Uzbek Saymatov (and also hoping for Kazakh athletes at +75kg to not get good results) isn't this extremely weird ? Australian results at 75kg will directly affect Iran's chance at 67kg -------------------- PS:the link doesn't work for 61kg results. I just know Giana Lotfy's opponent for bronze is Jovana Prekovic Edited October 5, 2019 by MHSN phelps
